Actually, as a Senator who voted against every major weapons system over the last 25 years, he'd be perfect for overseeing our military, don't you think? Washington Post:
*****
President Obama is considering asking Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) to serve as his next defense secretary, part of an extensive rearrangement of his national security team that will include a permanent replacement for former CIA director David H. Petraeus.
Although Kerry is thought to covet the job of secretary of state, senior administration officials familiar with the transition planning said that nomination will almost certainly go to Susan E. Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
John O. Brennan, Obama's chief counterterrorism adviser, is a leading contender for the CIA job if he wants it, officials said. If Brennan goes ahead with his plan to leave government, Michael J. Morell, the agency's acting director, is the prohibitive favorite to take over permanently. Officials cautioned that the White House discussions are still in the early stages and that no decisions have been made.

How perfect is this? A defense secretary who never met a weapons system he didn't hate, and a Secretary of State who thinks the UN should run American foreign policy.

My guess would be Rice. She’s a Marxist while Kerry is just a liberal gigolo wimp.
Great, he’ll throw metals at the troops vs pin them on properly.
NOTE TO SELF:
I gotta run to WalMart and get several cases of popcorn...
What the heck, why not?
I mean, it didn’t really matter, Romney would be the same as Obama, so it’s reasonable to assume Romney would have tapped Kerry for this post.
I can’t wait to see the SCOTUS nominations Obama makes. But, as the anti-Romney, anti-GOPe crowd knows, Romney would have made the same selections.
No consequence to this election, right?
Good choice to stay home, right?
Being obnixious to the people that control the votes you want isn't going to help your cause to elect a GOP moderate.

Paging Swift Boat Veterans..
3 purple hearts and no limp.
“Ii liked that weapons system before I didn’t like that weapons system. OK?”
Panetta, a commie loving Sec of D (Google “panetta communist for the FACTS}. Now a military hating, LIAR, Kerry. What next? Give Putin a job as Asst. Sec of D
I need to ketchup on my reading as I though Kerry retired.
A reality check here folks. Remember the 2004 Presidential Elections? You, know the one that Senator “I served in Vietnam” Kerry lead the Democratic Ticket? Does anyone remember seeing his DD Form 219?
It was issued some seven years after Kerry completed his tour of duty in the USN as a non-rated reserve officer. It also included the phrase “Upon a review of a board of officers.” I wonder how many of the honorably discharged vets from the 1970s have that particular phrase on their 219s? Thank you President Jimmy Carter!
His final PH was for a cut suffered from a grain of rice...
on the plus side: Kerry would have to vacate his senate seat.
Chances are, Sec of Def is a huge step down from Senate Aristocracy, so I would expect that he would not “report for duty”.
Sec of Def would force him into the spotlight and to be on the receiving end of congressional inquiries. Something he hasn’t done since he testified against real heroes.
His words then were of no consequence to his personal ambitions.
No - Kerry is a coward through and through. He’s long in the tooth as well as long in face.
When you are a Dem Senator it is best to retire or leave office as a Senator, unless you become Portus or Veep.
As did Byrd and Ted Kennedy.
I’m sure the rumor of consideration is the talk of the town, but every past-due dem senator in DC knows the position is beneath them.
A traitor and a coward as Secretary of Defense?
That would be like making a Marxist, America hating, Kenyan born Muslim, president.
RE: on the plus side: Kerry would have to vacate his senate seat.
You can be sure that whoever replaces him will be just as liberal or worse than he is ( at least he served in Vietnam — as he often reminds us ).
All the comments seem to miss a big mention in this article- Obama is considering Susan Rice as Secretary of State. The lady who went of 5 Sunday Snooze Shows and lied about Benghazi. Obviously the Chicago boys think very little of the GOP’s ability to mount opposition to her in the confirmation process.
I’m not trying to get anyone to vote for anyone. The election is done.
I can’t help it if you have problems with comprehension.
Vote for who you wish! This next four years under Obama’s RULE is going to be awesome.
I gather the Senate will just “assume” them confirmed, just like they assumed a budget was passed? Because no way Kerry and Susan Rice can testify in front of the Senate.
Oh wait! We don’t have any senators with balls, do we. So they won’t be asked anything tough, like Libya or spending or...

I think we are going to get a whole slew of new Marxists in the 2nd term. Obama will probably create a Cabinet Position for Muslim outreach headed by the one handed hate preacher we extraditied from the UK!
What a guy!
Yea... I want HIM as Sec. of Defense!
Pile it on, “O”... the more ridiculous and outrageous you make your administration... the more like a Gilbert & Sullivan (Pirates of Penzance) light opera farce you make it! If a single country on the face of the earth ever again takes us seriously, it will be a miracle!
“Every time the GOP runs a moderate, it seems to happen.”
The 47% have swelled. I’ve talked to Obama voters near me. All I can tell you is, good luck finding, and electing a “pure conservative”. Got a better chance of the Browns winning the Super Bowl.
Sorry if you find my observations “obnoxious”.
Rubber bullets for everyone!
Defense???
He’s up for Hillary’s job
RE: Hes up for Hillarys job
Actually word has it that Susan Rice is being rewarded by Obozo for her loyalty by giving her Hillary’s position.
Or a tax cheat as Treasury Secretary.
Naming John Kerry Sec. of Defense would be like naming Gary Busey supervisor at a psychiatric hospital.
It looks like someone wants to start the blame game on another thread. Yeah. It’s OUR fault Obama won. We conservatives are responsible. It’s our fault that we didn’t get all fired up for the weak, moderate nominee, Mitt Romney.
Granted. President Obama is going to be far worse. In what sort of Bizzaro World does the traitorous, anti-military Senator Kerry get put in charge of the military? Answer: Obama’s World.
Nevertheless, we need to stop bashing our fellow conservatives who didn’t vote for Romney. It’s the same situation as with McCain. The Republicans nominated a terrible candidate. To this day, I can’t really tell you what Romney stood for except complete surrender on social issues. You can’t blame voters when the party nominates a weak moderate like Romney.
Voters need someone to vote FOR not just someone to vote against. Some Republican diehards will vote no matter who the nominee is (so long as he has an R by his name), but fear of Obama will only take us so far. We have to offer something distinctly different than, “I’m not as bad as that other guy!”
“It looks like someone wants to start the blame game on another thread. Yeah. Its OUR fault Obama won. We conservatives are responsible. Its our fault that we didnt get all fired up for the weak, moderate nominee, Mitt Romney.”
That’s as far as we go with agreement.
Our opinions severely diverge after that.
I can see it now on his obituary. Cause of death: “Friendly” fire. Lovie will have to find another gigolo.
Kerry for Secretary of Defense???
Was Hanoi Jane not available?
Not agreeing or disagreeing. But on topic of pure conservative our side split the vote between two conservatives which allowed Romney to get in. So side has some work to do.
Look at yourself in the mirror every morning for the next four years and say to yourself "I'm glad Obama was reelected because I stuck to my principles and that's more important than saving the country from a monster. America will go down in flames but my conscience is clear"
That's what's really important, right?
It would give Scott Brown another shot at the Senate...
And there it is...
RE: It would give Scott Brown another shot at the Senate...
A very nice idea, but totally unlikely. Deval Patrick gets to appoint John Kerry’s replacement.
Which means whoever that person is will serve the remaining of Kerry’s term till 2016. Brown might want to run again in 4 years...
Did they change that law? That’s how Brown got in the first place.
To be filled by the likes of Barney Frank, another drug and alcohol addled Kennedy, or Obama's good buddy Deval Patrick. Rest assured, Deval Patrick will have a cushy federal position to showcase his civil rights expertise before this all shakes out.
Until Obama was re-elected, if someone had said John F'ing Kerry was considered for Secretary of Defense, I would have laughed it off as a lame joke.
More Obama spit in the eyes of honorable men and women.
Wait a minute. This guy denounced his military service. What kind of example does that set to other nations, as well as the US military. This is a joke, right?

The current law calls for a new election but the Rats can change election laws on a whim because they have such huge majorities in the Legislature.
