Jill Kelley turned to friend — and Tampa FBI agent — for help [shirtless photo a gag]
St. Petersburg - Tampa Bay Times ^ | November 15, 2012 | Times staff and wires

TAMPA — Frederick W. Humphries II helped make the FBI's cases against a would-be bomber on the West Coast and a university student in Tampa.

But the investigation he is most certainly going to be remembered for is one that led to the downfall of CIA director and retired Gen. David Petraeus.

Humphries was revealed Wednesday night as the Tampa FBI agent who took the complaints from socialite Jill Kelley that started a cyberstalking investigation and uncovered Petraeus' affair with biographer Paula Broadwell.

"He and his wife have been social friends of Mr. and Mrs. Kelley for years," the attorney, Lawrence Berger said. "Apparently, she felt threatened and she went to him. He had no further involvement in the investigation."

Earlier this week, a report in the Wall Street Journal depicted the agent as "obsessed" with the case, once sending a shirtless picture of himself to Kelley, who often threw extravagant parties for military brass at her South Tampa mansion.

Berger confirmed that Humphries had, indeed, sent a shirtless photo of himself to Kelley several years ago — but said the picture was part of a series of jokes between the families.

In the photo, he said, Humphries appeared without a shirt standing between two firing-range dummies. It was not of a sexual nature, Berger said.

Berger, the general counsel for the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, took issue with the way Humphries is being portrayed. He said he believes someone in the FBI is spreading false information about Humphries to embarrass him.

"I think there's a leaker in the bureau," Berger told the Tampa Bay Times. "Somebody has it in for my guy."

D.C. is full of social pythons like Natalie and Jill. They're the political world's version of the Kardasians; drama queens “famous for being famous.” Questionable “honorary” titles, shallow cultivated friendships, litigious backgrounds, multiple bogus business ventures, and no visible means of support. Easy pickings on the cocktail party circuit, where well oiled targets far from home let the little head do the thinking for the big head.

Humphries is a good man, and a good officer.

I would love to know the identity of the defamatory leaker within the FBI. It is that person who is also connected directly to Obama IMHO, and who has managed the blackmailing of Petraeus.

Oh goody, another rabbit trail to run down. Where will this story line lead us, I wonder? More adultery, semi-nudity, bored housewives and catty bi**hes plotting revenge on one another. More interesting characters, so many that we have already forgotten that Ben Gozzi fellow we met in season one.

Are we not entertained?

“........Concerned about the emails, Kelley contacted Humphries in June. The two had met at a 2011 FBI Citizens Academy, a program aimed at teaching the public and journalists about what the agency does and how it operates. Kelley was in the class, which Humphries lectured one night about terrorism, according to Natalie Shepherd, a Tampa TV reporter who was there.

Humphries, a former Army captain who worked in military intelligence, thought the emails raised serious concerns because the anonymous author knew the comings and goings of Allen and Petraeus, a former general who had preceded Allen in Afghanistan. His report back to the FBI started the investigation that led to Broadwell and uncovered her affair with Petraeus.

.....Humphries joined the FBI in 1996 and first came to prominence in 1999 after an Algerian man was arrested by U.S. Customs agents as he tried to enter Washington state from Canada by ferry. Ahmed Ressam had white powder, chemicals and homemade timing devices in the trunk of his car.

Ressam claimed to be a French-speaker from Quebec. According to a 2002 Seattle Times story, Humphries, then the only French-speaker assigned to the FBI’s Seattle office, was asked to question him. As soon as Humphries heard Ressam’s accent and phrasing, he knew he wasn’t from Quebec and told his colleagues to arrest him, the story said. It was later learned Ressam was part of an al-Qaida plot to blow up the Los Angeles airport on New Year’s Eve 1999........”

I hope there are more "Humphries" out there watching out for us.

Who would/could leak to the WSJ? Natalie & Jill Kelleydashian wouldn't know the WSJ from a work shovel. If they went to anyone it would be local, at best (witness Jill's sadly hilarious 911 call). Their minds don't work outside that sphere.

Occam says Broadwell's husband.

Thank you, I had read that last night but didn’t ping it. I had never heard of such a thing and this adds just another layer of interest to the Lebanese born tarts. I’m still wondering if she ever even became a citizen.

Yeah, but it looks like Paula Broadwell is nuttier than Natalie and Jill combined. What’s her excuse?

That picture is a small part of a larger picture that is in a Mail Online article (among many other pictures).

“Who would/could leak to the WSJ?”

The FBI leaker was intent on destroying Humphries, which has nothing to do with Kelly. Naturally you would leak to a prestigious media outlet if you wanted to destroy the reputation of the a federal official.

One of the most upsetting things about this is the fact that the WSJ was willing to participate in this smear based on anonymous sources. This means the WSJ has now joined forced with the fascists and can no longer be counted on to display any journalistic integrity whatsoever.

Exactly, Humphries was able to break through the bureaucracy to get a severe security breach handled, over the objections of his politicized bosses.

Sure, it was probably more of a favor to Kelley than a desire to bring down an Obama administration official, but without him, it’s likely that the head of our CIA would still be sharing secrets with a loose lipped (and more) woman or women.

The New York Times, quoting the spokesman without disclosing his name, reported that Jill Kelley feared the sender of the anonymous emails was "stalking" Petraeus and Gen. John R. Allen.

What happened to the story that she was the one who felt threatened???

This is bs. The emails she got hit too close to home and that is what bothered her. She was worried that someone was on to her inappropriate relationships with the brass.

And she played Agent Shirtless for a fool.

In the course of her close daily professional association with the General, she became what used to be called in D.C. an “office wife.” In another age, all these women were known simply as “courtesans.”

I’m wondering if Paula B is some sort of agent, other than the obvious U.S. one. She accomplished a great deal for the current administration by taking down former General Patraeus.

It’s the making of a book: prom queen, West Point graduate, is honey pot that takes down general. Who’d believe the book wasn’t fiction?

Ms. Kelley sounds like a madam who set up influential people. Maybe she was more like Dolly Levi.

There are, and if any Tango happens to look at this face, he had better hope its not over the barrel of Humphries' gun, because I can guarantee you, they can start getting ready for their "virgin" territory.

I hope he gets a promotion for his current work, and eventually becomes Director of the FBI.

Tampa area has a large amount of swinging parties. Sex out of marriage is very common. I use to train people on the base at CENTCOM. It is talked about by them at work.

Your tagline is a lie. See PA 100% turnout at polls. We are dancing around the elephant in the room and what we dare not say, but it was NOT mainly women that elected O-B-gone.
