WSJ: Petraeus pushed out after defending CIA over Benghazi?
Hot Air ^ | November 15, 2012 | Ed Morrissey

(via Instapundit):

In David Petraeus’s final days at the helm of the Central Intelligence Agency, his relations with chiefs of other U.S. agencies, including his boss, National Intelligence Director James Clapper, took a contentious turn.

At issue was whether the CIA should break its silence about its role in Benghazi, Libya, to counter criticism that increasingly was being leveled at the agency and Mr. Petraeus, said senior officials involved in the discussions.

Mr. Petraeus wanted his aides to push back hard and release their own timeline of the Sept. 11 attacks on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi and a nearby CIA safe house, seeking to set the record straight and paint the CIA’s role in a more favorable light. Mr. Clapper and agencies including the Pentagon objected, but Mr. Petraeus told his aides to proceed, said the senior officials.

By all accounts, the driving force behind Mr. Petraeus’s departure last Friday was the revelation about his extramarital affair with his biographer. But new details about Mr. Petraeus’s last days at the CIA show the extent to which the Benghazi attacks created a climate of interagency finger-pointing. That undercut the retired four-star general’s backing within the Obama administration as he struggled with the decision to resign.

“WSJ: Petraeus pushed out after defending CIA over Benghazi?”

I don’t read any article that starts with a question.

"....the embassy was deliberately left unguarded so the Moslems could take hostage the Ambassador to use him to exchange for the blind shiek Omar."

Info to date indicates that Stevens wasn't in on the joke.

Petraeus should stay well away from boating accidents for the next decade.

I think he could change it all if he testified honestly, and there would be no way for either Obama or his apparatchiks to escape.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

We will see. But there is something vile under all of this that is not yet disclosed. We can smell it. It looks as if Petraeus will support Obama, and since it will be a Senate Committee in camera ( closed doors), I am sure Feinstein will protect Obama. We need Petraeus before Issa’s House Oversight Commmittee.

IMHO Petraeus has convinced Obama he will support him...which is why the hearing has been scheduled, remember at first Petraeus’s attendence was postponed until he “sorted his life out.”

But this may behind closed doors develop into the greatest shakedown of a general that has ever been....and I fear his life may be put in danger before he can appear before a House Committee in public.

If I was a lefty, and given the choice to either blame the CIA, the Pentagon, or State, I’d choose the CIA. Just sayin’.

I had the impression yesterday while watching the press conference that Obama was very confident he had The General under control. I sure hope he is sworn in on Friday.

I can hope you’re right, but I don’t trust the GOP to pressure him sufficiently to change the false testimony he already gave.

MEMO TO GENERAL PETRAEUS: Of course you will tell the truth. No question. But you are authorized to include your professional opinion of how politics has tainted objective truth and obscured the information the public and Congress are entitled to know.

I entirely agree, and I'm not sure any of the scenarios floated here have hit it. I can't imagine what it is, because mere incompetence or even the intentional protection of Muslims at the cost of the lives of American citizens wouldn't bother the media or be enough to rile the American population, which has accepted Obama's argument that Muslims are good and America is evil and the source of all evils and we deserve whatever happens to us.

So it must be something so massively bad that it's beyond the normal scope of things and something that might actually wake up Americans and make them turn on Obama to protect him.

That's the only reason I can see for this utterly frantic cover-up, which has now engulfed all the branches of government and has sealed like a shell around Obama.

This to me also means that a lot of them are implicated and are afraid we will find out.

Ooops, my cutting and pasting missed its mark. Here's what I wanted to say:

The left looks completely ridiculous right now. After Bill Clinton’s affair with Monica. Come on. And they are ignoring Hillary’s affair with Huma. They are becoming laughing stocks.

I wonder what blackmail they had on Chief Justice Roberts.

The regime is more then despicable. They are a criminal enterprise that makes la cosa Nostra look like the little rascals by comparison

Apparently what they had on Roberts involved his adopted children and how he got them into the US. At least that is what I kinda remember.

Could he lose his pension if court martial? Maybe this is being held over him, no court martial and you get a pension if you tell it like they want. We need someone to admit there were requests for help that were turned down. How is it that the ex seals were told to stand down yet there is no request for help? If we can’t get an answer in 3+ years on Fast & Furious, why should we expect and different on this?
