Petraeus Says U.S. Tried to Avoid Tipping Off Terrorists After Libya Attack
New York Times ^ | Nov 16 2012 | Eric Schmitt

WASHINGTON — David H. Petraeus, the former director of the Central Intelligence Agency, told lawmakers on Friday that classified intelligence reports revealed that the deadly assault on the American diplomatic mission in Libya was a terrorist attack, but that the administration refrained from saying it suspected that the perpetrators of the attack were Al Qaeda affiliates and sympathizers to avoid tipping off the groups. Mr. Petraeus, who resigned last week after admitting to an extramarital affair, said the names of groups suspected in the attack — including Al Qaeda’s franchise in North Africa and a local Libyan group, Ansar al-Shariah — were removed from the public explanation of the attack immediately after the assault to avoiding alerting the militants that American intelligence and law enforcement agencies were tracking them, lawmakers said.

Another possibility, he was an open homosexual. Was a lover used to lure him there? Would not be the first time. Why would a US ambassador and a Turkish ambassador agree to meet at a poorly guarded consulate, in a known hotbed of jihadist’s
activity..... on 9/11 anniversary? With a small security team to boot. I do not see diplomatic security team approving of the adventure, he may have gone against their wishes. Just a thought.

I get it. Obama was willing to use the United Nations, and all the world's Ambassadors as his personal stooges in an attempt to deceive Al Qaeda, not pre-election Americans.

Tipping them off? What, the terrorist Islamic jihadists had no idea those were AMERICANS they were attacking?

We sure kept them from having the least clue about how or what to engage.

Not as if we were painting a target on their mortars or anything. And surely not as if we were in a fix where personnel had to be extracted for their own safety.

This is not merely lame. Both legs are cut off at the knees, there is a large gaping abdominal wound, and blood is streaming over both eyes, as the head explodes.

The NYT continues to willingly cover for our inept administration. They could have withheld specific names/information and still called the attack a terrorist action. Obama has sold out to the Muslim Brotherhood and was smuggling arms to them by way of Benghazi. Obama did not want to upset those activities and wanted to sweep the attack under the rug as a one time demonstration. It has been now over two months with no administration actions or resolution provided to the American general public. If it were not for the Petraeus sex scandal, Benghazi would be old news....just what the NYT is trying to do now. The death of the NYT can’t come soon enough for me.. Until then, it is just another political news outlet fo Obama.

The president of Libya said immediately that it was a terrorist attack - Al Q claimed it right away - what’s to keep secret?

Yet another layer of lies

Even if that were true, to falsely blame a video put up by an American citizen and put his life in danger is treasonous and an impeachable offense

...to avoid tipping off the groups.

Nobody had to worry about tipping off anyone after the attack. During it they knew they were being watched. I bet you can find a shot of one of them flipping off the camera in the sky.

If this is true, it’s sad how naive the U.S. government is, thinking they can outsmart the terrorists by “playing dumb,”

I think you have that wrong. What you should say is that it is sad how naive the U.S. government and the New York Times thinks we are to belive such nonsense.

Stevens went for the ostensible purpose of dedicating a “cultural center,”something that would have been planned with at least some advance notice. However, he was also scheduled to have a meeting with a Turkish ship owner who was thought to be involved in or knowledgeable about weapons smuggling and shipping. He met with him, and it was right after the meeting, when he got back to the consulate, that the attack began.

since AQ was publicly taking credit, I doubt the administration was trying tohide our knowledge of who did it from AQ. More rational explanation isthey didn’t want public to know that Bambi’ allies had attacked us

Hate to risk tipping off the terrorists, but the U.S. was not just “playing” dumb.
