China Will Build the Tallest Building In the World in Just 90 Days
Gizmodo ^ | November 20,2012 | Jesus Diaz

According to its engineers, this will be the tallest skyscraper in the world by the end of March of 2013. Its name is Sky City, and its 2,749 feet (838 meters) distributed in 220 floors will grow in just 90 days in Changsha city, by the Xiangjiang river. Ninety days!

It's not a joke. According to the construction company, the skyscraper will be built in just 90 days at the unbelievable rate of five floors per day. It's hard to believe, but they claim the building has been designed by some of the engineers who previously worked at the Burj Khalifa. It is also the same firm that built a full 30-story hotel in 15 days—which yes, is still standing and in perfect working condition.

Foundation work is beginning at the end of the month, once the Chinese authorities give the final go ahead to the project.

Pre-fab magic They will be able to achieve this impossibly fast construction rate by using a prefabricated modular technology developed by Broad Sustainable Building, a company that has built 20 tall structures in China so far, including the that 30-story hotel.

Since they built that hotel, the company has been perfecting their technology, which they are now claiming will turn their project into the world's tallest skyscraper in just three months. That's a whooping five floors per day, which seems just absurd. According to Construction Week Online, the company is very serious about it. The senior VP of the Broad Group, Juliet Jiang, has publicly said that they "will go on as planned with the completion of five storeys a day."

I hope they get some great video of the collapse as it happens.

And it will.

Something was being left out, and it is just that oversight (or series of oversights) that will come back to bite them in the gluteus maximus.

Perhaps we could get the DNC to occupy the top floor?

90 days, and we know the contractor won't be cutting any corners on construction quality...

Exactly.

Let me repeat that: The building will be assembled in 90 days from pre-constructed pieces.

Still not too shabby.

If it doesn’t fall over.

I guess they’re not counting the foundation.

Their foundation is in the "revolution", Tovarich. Kind of like the obama economy.

Oh...you were expecting something along the lines of "Terra Firma". No time for that - FORWARD!

“Or as I used to tell clients. I can do two of these thing for you, tell which two are important.

Performance
Cost
Schedule”

Oh, and it has to be done with impeccable quality.

when they say built, don’t they actually mean “topped Out”?

That is the steel structure will be complete and ready for curtain walls and slabs and interior partitions, elevators finishing etc

Not just unions.

The permits and inspections mandated, at every stage of construction, would drag out more than 90 days in the US.

I have been inside a Chinese skyscraper.
They dont finish the inside. Exposed concrete, wiring, and ductwork next to people busily working at their desks.
They also dont bother to remove the construction rubble. Landscaping is not their strong suit.

**************

Ditto Soviet construction. I’ve not seen post-Soviet work but would expect pretty much the same.

“It takes 90 days just to get a lawyer to write a letter in the declining US”

That's a key point. And it is getting worse every day with the Obama communist and its Obamacare slowing down our country. Here in the U.S. they keep writing new government laws and regulations every day at all levels of government and that is chocking capitalism . The growth of government in the U.S. is hurting businesses, the economy , innovation, inventions , new business startups etc. . But liberals/democrats vote for and welcome this growing government. Democrats trust government and government bureaucrats. Why ? I don't get it why?

Government is the problem but liberals think government (socialism) is the solution.

My immediate thought went to the Ryugyong hotel in North Korea. It was started in '87 and claimed it would be done by '89. After many delays and a claim that it was condemned, it sat dormant for 16 years before construction was resumed. Obviously the Chinese are better at this stuff than the N.Koreans, but their timeline does seem rather optimistic.

Starting point? Everything below grade complete? And concrete cured?

Only one crane? Wow.
Staging of elevators for workers and material.

Very little or no concrete used above grade?

Splicing of of data and power cables? Each floor? Access to splices?

104 elevators?
What percentage of floor area is consumed by services?(elevators, HVAC, plumbing, stairs...)

All Electric heat? $$$

Open areas without columns? The rooms are small, not to worry about sight lines?

Will be interesting to watch.

I'm guessing the Geotechnical Engineers didn't take lateral load, settlement, or side shear into account.
