Based on your posts, it certainly appears you voted for Obama. Looking at the date you joined and your posting history certainly validates that conclusion.

I wouldn’t be opposed to that, can we also call it a probationary wage for those older than 18 just entering or re-entering the workforce after extended periods of not working??
Oh my god no, we were starving to death. I brought home about $850 every two weeks, and my rent was $800 for a basement, trashy apartment. We are much better off today. But the point being, he is making more than I was, and it is not minimum wage.
He is studying computer engineering, and is a quite talented programmer. I am not too worried about his prospects when he gets finished with school. We also realize that the economy is bad and have planned our living arrangements around it. If he needs to take an internship to get his foot in the door somewhere, I am fully willing to support that.
A safe place workplace and healthy environment are worthy goals. Being free market doesn’t necessarily mean people oppose reasonable restrictions on industry. The problem is, the left has taken a good thing and perverted it to the point of ridiculousness.
It’s like prohibition. That’s an extreme. Being opposed to prohibition doesn’t mean one has to support alcohol sales to minors or drunk driving. It doesn’t have to be an all or nothing world.
Now look at what the left has done to this country’s economy. I’m all for limiting pollution, but we’re way past coal plants killing people with emissions or burying communities in soot. I’m all for safety, but when it gets to the point where I can hardly use a tool for all the safety features, get real.
At my work, we’re told safety is the #1 priority. How insane is that? If safety is the #1 priority, then we shouldn’t be doing anything. That’s what’s wrong with America. We saw the good results of limited regulation and safety standards, so we kept doubling down until it’s reached the point where the gains (in safety and a healthy environment) no longer justify the cost.
A classic case is the race war. We rightly eliminated separate laws for people based on their race, but we turned around and created preferences for people based on race. We took a good thing, eliminating discrimination, and took it so far that we created another evil.
Wrong! I voted for Mitt. Couldn’t stand Zero’s fascination with “green energy”, pseudo-religious belief in “man made climate change” and his hatred of coal, and his support for same-sex “marriage” (an abomination and oxymoron at the same time). I’m a conservative who happens to care about the working stiff—but I’m no liberal.

I have no idea what killed Hostess but I have what I think is an accurate assessment...
Besides Hostess spending millions upon millions in bonuses to upper management, I suspect its the cost of their products, lack of sales...
Hostess' main competitor is Little Debbie...Little Debbie products are far cheaper...Hostess is a far better product...
As millions of people are losing their jobs to China, they are giving up quality (Hostess) for quantity (Little Debbie)...
What is funny tho is that now, Little Debbie's prices are beginning to skyrocket...

And the Boomers paid into the generous (and largely unearned) entitlement programs that supported the previous generations. After all, America is (was) a rich country. The generations that created entitlements like Social Security were on the front end of the pyramid scheme. They collected the benefits and Boomers paid the bill. Now that Boomers are retiring, the Ponzi scheme is revealed. There’s nothing left for the people who paid into these entitlements their entire working lives. The government is broke.
Did you post that comment from a US-made computer? Globalism has brought us fabulously cheap consumer goods, thus increasing our standard of living. Do you remember what a TV or refrigerator cost forty years ago? If not, take a look at some old ads, and calculate the inflation-adjusted price.

I hate to say it, but Hostess’ main product line was stuck in 1962. Foamy white bread, shlocky pastries, not the sort of thing that’s popular these days. Plus supermarket brands were outpricing Hostess for essentially the same items. Beefsteak bread was good, but not irreplaceable. As for the twinky, I think LBJ was President the last time I ate one.

You can't claim that competition controls prices if there's a tariff on foreign goods.
Once you protect domestic industry you don't get a competitive industry. You get a feather-bedded industry that no longer needs to compete on the world stage, a toxic increase of Government, and domestic consumers who are cost-pushed to buy the uncompetitive domestic product.
And with Government 'protecting' domestic industry you also get a) picking of winners and losers and b) protection of unionized industries and campaign-contributors only.
A good historical example here is British Leyland, a major UK car manufacturer that was 'protected' by tariffs. It didn't magically get better - it got worse until it crashed and burnt. Its slow-motion demise cost the taxpayers an arm and a leg.
A good modern example here is GM. The major US car manufacturer (and union pensions provider!) that was 'protected' using the non-tariff remedies of massive, illegal Government debt-forgiveness and contract awards. Has GM cars magically got better thanks to the 'helping hand of Government'? I think we all know the answer to that.

Its akin to Bill O’Reilly’s habitual harping about “obscene” oil company profits, always a number grabbed out of the “news” stream wihout any reference to the magnitude of the capital investments undergirding that number or the long-term profitability of a highly volatile industry, the number of dry holes drilled, the money spent on fruitless explorations, etc.
