CHICAGO (CBS) – Al Phillips wants to know why a Chicago police officer shot his dog while writing a traffic ticket outside his house.

“My neighbor called and told me I was getting a ticket on my van. When I opened the fence, my puppy ran out. That’s when I heard two gunshots and the officer shot my dog,” Phillips said.

The 7-month-old Bull Terrier miniature puppy survived but had a bullet in its leg and fragments in its abdomen.

Why not ask Rahm and Obama to intercede?

Clearly terrifying. This "cop" should be fired.

One of these days some dog owner is going to get medeval on one of these idiots, and then get a jury of dog ladies who vote not guilty.

This "cop" should be fired.

I agree, but that's going easy on him. Then they returned to ticket the owner for an unleashed dog? It's unbelievable.

It really is. Shooting the dog is just SOP, regardless of why the cops are even there in the first place. But lets call it what is: Terrorism.

If the cop had a taser, the dog would still be living.

Shooting the dog is just SOP. Yes, but since when! This is a trend which seems to have popped up in the last several years or so. I don't recall that it used to be S.O.P. to shoot dogs for no apparent reason. It's just terroristic.

Once again, the root cause is some inane piece of permitting - an officer writing a ticket for a parked vehicle. And cops returned, to write a ticket for an unleashed dog. Clearly the reward for filing a complaint.

all they’re doing is desensitizing them to killing live things. most cops already feel it’s and “us” versus “them” world and all the pap about how some cops will defend and protect the constitution is BS. They are doing they’re 15-20 years, getting their disability check and moving to Florida, Arizona or into another government nipple job like politician. re:Stupak.

If the cop had any courage the dog would not have been shot.

It’s easier & cheaper to provide cops tasers than to develop courage in them.

RTFA. It’s not a Pit Bull, it’s a Bull Terrier.

Like most of this stuff, the first I recall seeing it was during no-knock drug raids. Most people didn’t pay attention back then because they thought they had nothing to fear from that sort of thing. Slippery slopes, and all.
