Yeah, I know what you mean... As a dog breeder, anyone who tries to harm my dogs is playing with his/her life. It might not be immediate, but it will happen. Shoot, shovel, shutup...

I suspect it was the gangsta drug dealer dogs that started it off. Just like with firearms, law abiding citizens are being treated like criminals. Now everyone’s dog is in jeopardy.

OK, these comments have nothing to do with the incident, which sounds out of whack.

But the article is definitely biased: “puppy” “little”.

7 months is hardly a puppy, and thus he wasn’t that little, even for a miniature.

This is not a Pit Bull; it actually is just a Bull Terrier.

>> cops will be shooting nice chocolate labs next.

We’re already well past that stage. The stories are out there. I think one in particular was a mayor or councilman in one of the MD DC suburbs.

This phenomenon is way out of control. We have harsh penalties for cruelty to animals because we’ve known for a long time that such behavior tends to lead to violence against people. What does this say about our police?

I'm just wondering. Do you think that perhaps there might have been a better option open to the cop confronted with a 7 month old miniature bull terrier?

“It is a bull terrier puppy, probably a Staffordshire bull terrier.”

Bull Terriers are vastly different from Staff, which are true pit bull terrier types. They share a past, but just-plain Bulls are long since tempered down and removed from the ring.

This dog is plainly a white Bull Terrier, miniature (another clue it is not a Staff or any other Pit). The journalist didn’t fail to ID the breed.

Reread my 1st statement, please.

The cop was (likely) out of line.

Just pointing out how biased the article writing is. After all, it is based on the family asking the story to be printed.

Seven months old is indeed a puppy and from the pictures he is indeed little.

Face it, the cowardly cop shot a little dog.

I bet a full grown Golden Retriever would have him soiling his diaper.

I did not say anything defending the cop.

I DID say the article is biasing people.

7 mos is “technically” a puppy for any given breed, but a German Shepherd is basically full size at that point. How much more a mini Bull Terrier of 30 lbs. By headlines, you’d think a cute little uncoordinated 2 mos 8 lb baby.

This is like the reports about “a child” when the kid is a teenager of 16 years. Only use “child” when you want to elicit sympathy; “kid” when it doesn’t matter.

The cop was wrong, but it’s still blatant influence-peddling.

Not only is it not a Pit bull, it's a friggin' MINIATURE Bull Terrier.

They're under 14" tall _full grown_, FFS!

God, don't be so blindly prejudiced.

Full grown, they’re 14” [or *under*] and weight 20-35 pounds.

That’s barely even a real dog.

Cops are cowards.

A Mini BT costs about 3K for pet quality...*if* you can find one.

A show quality pup [as they stated they were going to show him] runs from 4K, up.

A good lawyer could sue on ‘potential’ of a show dog and all the stud fees ‘lost’ due to its inability to be shown now.

That back leg is never going to move properly again and gait counts for half the points.

Scoop the adorable little thing up and hug it silly?

They’re obnoxiously sweet and happy dogs.
