Syrian forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad have fired Scud missiles at rebel fighters in recent days, Obama administration officials said on Wednesday.

The move represents a significant escalation in the fighting, which has already killed more than 40,000 civilians in a nearly two-year-old conflict that has threatened to destabilize the Middle East.

One American official, who asked not to be identified because he was discussing classified information, said that missiles had been fired from the Damascus area at targets in northern Syria.

“The total is number is probably north of six now,” said another American official, and that the targets were in areas controlled by the Free Syrian Army, the main armed insurgent group.

It is not clear how many casualties resulted from the attacks by the Scuds

The problem is that the terrorist insurgents (Jabhat al-Nusra) have overrun at least two WMD faclities in the north. And since our great Fuhrer has decided to label Jabhat a terrorist organization, that gives Assad the green light to fire everything he has at them. So scuds will work in a situation where terrorist have control of a WMD facility and the US/NATO are providing air cover. Which they probably are now in the north. At least within the range of the Patriot batteries.

Also the “insurgents” like to take cover in “Christian” neighborhoods so as to conveniently dispose of their mortal enemy through collateral damage.

Talk about taking a hammer to an ant. It’s not like you could direct these things either. They are just V2’s with better gas mileage.

It does sound like desperation.
Un-aimed use of all the ammo thats left.
I suspect that some of the Syrian regime bases are hard to resupply by now and are running low on effective munitions.
They can choose to blow up the remaining stocks or shoot them off.
They may retreat and consolidate soon.

I just saw on news Obama declaring the US and our coalition now claim the insurgents are adequate diversified and that they represent the Syrian people and not the Assad regime.

unbelievable

Not endorsing Assad but now they are saying we have a responsibility to the insurgents that are the same people we’ve been fighting over there the last 10 years.

F U this administration.

How do we know the “rebels” didn't sneak into Damascus and shoot these scuds at themselves, huh? Isn't this all just a part of the conspiracy to frame Assad and make people think he's a muslim?
