Union man (Wheeler Marsee - city council) speaks out about run-in with reporter Steven Crowder

MELVINDALE, Mich. (WJBK) -- It's a video seen all over the world. An attack on a Fox News contributing reporter at the right to work protest in Lansing earlier this week was caught on video.

Now, one of the union members seen in the footage is speaking out to FOX 2.

By now, almost everybody knows who he is, reporter Steven Crowder, the guy who got sucker-punched outside a pitch tent where the pro-right to work crowd had gathered. (See the video above in the upper right corner)

"I'm under rested and overworked right now and still tough enough to take the union's greatest punch," said Crowder during an interview on 'Hannity' Wednesday. "And the leftists are saying that I deserved the beating that I got, completely and physically unprovoked."

The demonstration was so far from dull. There was quite a commotion, complete with cursing and all sorts of carrying on.

"Get the (expletive) out of my face," one man repeatedly says to Crowder during the skirmish.

Who is he? "I am the vice-griever for Local 1299, United Steelworkers," says Wheeler Marsee.

He's also a City Council member in Melvindale, a downriver suburb of Detroit. He tells FOX 2 he and a few friends came to participate in a peaceful protest against right to work. And things were all good, until they weren't. "There was people up there that were rebel-rousing the crowd," says Marsee. "The next thing I knew, I had the gentleman in question right up in my face. The video didn't give it justice because he was the aggressor."

Time, place, and manner.

While "offense" is tempting, if I drew my gun there at that time (about a minute before SHTF), what would happen? 90% of it would be bad. That mob would have doubled down, I would have fired, someone would be dead, and I could be dead or jailed with a bunch of witnesses that would all go against me.

Place. This was a union organized protest. This was "their" turf on that day first. This wasn't my house, business, or my neighborhood. I'm not going to act like Mr. Tough Guy on their turf. On mine, it's another story. I'm getting the rifle.

Would my drawing further my objective? On that day, no. I wasn't hit. I wasn't threatened except by a mild comment I've heard back in high school.

I understand what you are saying and the problem with conservatives acting passive. I get it. If I was hit, we'd have a different conversation. If this Wheeler jagoff got within arm length from me, we'd have a different conversation.

Crowder didn’t file a report. He wants to fight the Tony guy MMA style.

Don’t get me wrong.

I would not have drawn either, and I think you handled the situation correctly. If I’d been there, I would have done what you did. Unless one of the people I was with was being Zimmerman’d by the unions, then I’d have drawn.

What I’m saying is that we need to plan and organize the next time we have an event like this and we need some “big meanies” to meet their thugs head-on.

Yes, it will be ugly. But they need to understand that if they are not civil, we will not shut up and go away and allow them to tyrannize us. We will fight back. There will be blood. And it will not be only ours.

Crowder needs to file assault charges. He hasn't done so yet.

There were other folks in the AfP tent. They need to file charges for damage done to themselves and their property by these Union low-lifes.

We also need to come up with a better plan to help provide security for our groups that try to provide a counter balance at demonstrations like this... Thinking something along the lines of a Patriot Guard type thing.

An impromptu massive protest at the union HQ could be fun though. Fight the mob with a mob.

“The video didn’t give it justice because he was the aggressor.”

Who are you going to believe? Me, or your lying eyes?

For leftists, everything is moral if it advances the cause.

I would love to see a movement that would, in direct opposition to “Look for the Union Label”, boycott all goods and services connected with Unions.

Yes. I was in a Union, Local 57 out of Philadelphia, for years.

Yesterday I saw an interview with a high-ranking Michigan state police officer (chief?) on Greta Van Susteren's show on Fox. What is disturbing is what appeared to be a rather laid back attitude on his part in regard to arresting the perps of the violence at these demonstrations.

As of last night, he said, there had been only one formal complaint - by AFP as an organization - and he said it will be investigated as per usual. He seemed to be in a wait and see mode.

With all the visual evidence of the crimes being committed and the appearance of several of the perps committing these crimes on the video, can't the police pursue an investigation and make arrests if they can locate suspects who match the people shown in the video? Or do they need formal complaints from a victim or victims to initiate such an investigation?

One other point: there seemed to be a lack of police presence at the time and location at which the violence took place.

you are definitely right about that. Public employees have no right to unionize to begin with. Even FDR wouldn’t support it.

Cops (government union workers) not recognizing the crimes of other union workers.

Shocked, shocked I tell you (yes, trite but apropos).

Your observations are seemingly correct.

My take is that many recognize what was really occurring.

You do not clamp down on a safety valve popping off. If you do, the vessel is likely to over pressurize and explode.

No surprise; the police are also unionized.

Why would they? The police are unionized as well.
