Catholic Patriarch: Christmas Marks 'Birth of Palestine State'

The Patriarch of Jerusalem's Roman Catholic Church declared Christmas is also a celebration of … the birth of the state of Palestine.”

The leader of the Roman Catholic Church in Jerusalem has added something new this year to the liturgy: Patriarch Fouad Twal declared the holiday of "Christmas is also a celebration of … the birth of the state of Palestine.”

The Jordanian-born Twal made the statement during a procession to Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus, where he is due to lead midnight mass at the Church of the Nativity.

The church in Manger Square and Bethlehem itself are today both considered part of the Palestinian Authority. One must pass through a checkpoint manned by armed PA security personnel in order to enter the city.

The outpouring, although expected, is seen only on rare occasions these days as the “little town of Bethlehem” becomes more empty of the faithful each year. Its Muslim residents have increasingly harassed their Christian neighbors, prompting many to decide to leave the area and move to a more “peaceful” environment.

In November, the U.N. General Assembly voted to pass a resolution granting the PA upgraded status as a nonmember observer state, similar to that of the Vatican. The move in essence circumvents the mandate to negotiate its final status with Israel, as delineated in the internationally-recognized Oslo Accords signed by both parties.

"Latin Patriarch Fouad Twal told followers at the patriarchate's headquarters in Jerusalem's Old City that this year's festivities were doubly joyful, celebrating "the birth of Christ our Lord and the birth of the state of Palestine".

Wow, that is just so incredibly wrong, from so many different directions, that it is just mind boggling.

No way in hell would I equate the Birth of Jesus with the birth of Palestine.

What is this guy thinking?

Israel let this happen, perhaps, in hopes that the larger Christian world would finally get incensed when it saw some of its chief holy sites get overrun with Muslims.

Once they are through being useful idiots for a Muslim Pallie state, those Catholics will get ousted if not slaughtered.

My invitation to Papists: Leave Rome. Come home to sanity; come home to Christ.

He’s an idiot. He’s supports Israel’s enemies and God’s enemies - so he will reap an evil harvest!

What is this guy thinking?

He's thinking the same thing the Pope is thinking.

The idiots at the link are blaming Protestant churches while the thread it about the Pope and what he is doing. Unbelievable! Christians support Israel and always have. Catholicism believes in replacement theology because they were taught that. Christians read/study the bible and know that’s not true.

Why would we leave Christ? We already have Him and He has us. We don’t want your sects. We’ll stay with the whole Christ and His Church. Thanks.

IF you are a “good Catholic”, then just listen to what your leadership says and say “yes, Father”...

Why would they want to come “Home” to Biblical/New Testament Christianity?

There are like three rabid anti-Christian Papists on Free Republic. Vladimir is one of them.

If you do not abandon Rome and turn to Christ, you are doomed.

Just a warning. Turn to Christ. Leave Rome. Trust in Jesus alone.

“In principle” they shouldn’t (e.g. “gay parishes”). In practice congregations are offered no means by which they can oust such blatant wickedness.

Which is a gaffe that makes the Koran-kissing photo-op of the previous pope look like nothing:

“He also praised the Arab Spring uprisings, which have ousted four long-time dictators.”

And installed at least equally ruthless mobs/mobsters in their place? Is Rome truly that clueless about the secular side of current events? It's making Christianity look asinine.

If there exists perversions in the lifetime of human cultures, why not also religions?

I expect, eventually, that human sacrifice will be reintroduced as the ultimate honor to the creator of all things.

Civilization may well be a pulsating endless series of changes between the sublime and the ultimate evil.

Ah, what makes you think this guy is a papist, because you read it?

My advice to those so quick to criticize anything and that includes even the Church, get informed, much like you do aboutAmerican politics. Otherwise, stay out of piling on with leftist journalists. You run the risk of being a hypocrit.

By the way, The Vatican certanly has a position on this matter, and it is not the same as this guy’s.
