Sam Swicegood, a Pizza Hut delivery man in Maryland fought off a group of attackers as he was attempting to deliver pizzas, and what happens? Pizza Hut gave him a demotion.
According to Swicegood, he was sucker punched, which caused his glasses to “fly off.” He then dropped the pizzas he was carrying and began to swing a small piece of a tent pole he had at his attackers, while covering his face. Its a little fiberglass road I had up my sleeve not thinking I would actually have to use it but more or less having a little comfort up my sleeve, recalled Sam.
Swicegood faced five attackers and said those odds “is just not a good situation to be in.”
He said, “I thought I was about to die.”
The attackers fled without his money or his pizzas. However, Fox News Insider says that Pizza Hut cut his hours and his pay for violating their “no weapons policy.”
The local Fox affiliate in Baltimore reported, “During the days that followed Pizza Hut made Sam a cook, slashing his hours and salary. Sam had violated Pizza Huts weapon policy which states that a driver cannot be armed.”
Swicegood is college student simply trying to make ends meet delivering pizzas. He said, I was making about 11 or 12 dollars in tips, which helped pay for college.
Im not saying we should arm all delivery drivers, but Im saying that punishing delivery drivers for defending themselves as theyre being attacked is unjust.
It is unjust.
In November, one of Sam’s co-workers was held at gunpoint and robbed in the same area that Swicegood was attacked. So far 3 of the 5 individuals that attacked Swicegood have been arrest. They are all juveniles.
Not that I’m a fan of Pizza Hut, but I’ll take my business elsewhere when I’m purchasing pizzas from now on until they make this right. After all, Sam and people like him are performing a job for them and in these cases they are doing it by putting their lives on the line, literally. This is just one more area where if the company wants to exercise the right to disarm their employees they should be able to also be sued if the employee is attacked for the company’s failure to provide adequate protection. Otherwise, allow people to exercise their Second Amendment rights.
I bet the CEO of Pizza Hit has armed security.
Demoted? Demoted to what, busboy?
They used to use a 3-cheese blend and several years ago they switched to mozzarella only (and u could also b right about it being imitation)
That’s why it isnt good anymore
He is now first assistant delivery boy.
He is now first assistant delivery boy.
Companies in Maryland are liable if any of their employees ever defend themselves.

I heard a couple of years ago it was illegal in MD for a ‘citizen’ to wear a Bullet Proof Vest.
If true, bad enough I can’t carry (well, that is the law..<:) to defend myself, I can’t wear anything to help me in case I get shot.
BIZARROLAND is here and now.
very easy problem to solve...when you call in your order to be delivered, you provide a debit, credit, food stamp card and include a tip for the delivery person...NO CASH is used.....if you can’t do that, eat spam at home.
Maybe it’s actually a promotion. Since he’s the only one in this story with any brains, they might have promoted him to being a cook (on trial pay) because nobody else in the chain knows how to make a pizza.
To many Business Socialists think businesses have the right to deny someone their right to defend themselves....that is absurd when many service related business put their employees in danger everyday when handling money and merchandise.
Try actually reading the article. You'll be amazed at how informed you'll become.
Or “Box Folder Trainee”.
You sound like a priggish librarian. Come ON!!! Surely you recognize those rare instances where being uninformed is just more fun (and harmless) than bothering to find the facts. Have you read the replies? Funny, no? Come on! We’re just having some Sunday Morning yucks. No harm, no foul.
“OK, how does it lack credibility?”
I say that based upon him telling his story while re-enacting how he defended himself against five guys. I watched the film clip on the news.
First, the guy is quite a bit feminine in his mannerisms and body movement. He explained how he covered and protected his face with one arm (and could not see what he was doing) as he waived a small collapsible fiberglass rod at them blindly to fend them off. All five guys just ran away.
I will guarantee there is more to the story as one attacker could have taken this guy, even if he would have had a sword rather than a fiberglass tent pole! A few minutes of listening to him and you would not believe his story.
He certainly has the right to defend himself. What he doesn’t have is a right to be a Pizza Hut delivery driver.
