I am going to Alabama or Mississippi
Play around with this interactive map of people moving, it show exodus from liberal areas to conservative areas mostly:

i was groan before i found out damnyankee was two words.
Illinois doesn’t surprise me at all...Wisconsin sort of does.
When my wife’s company moved us to Houston from Mobile Al, IIRC, they paid over $17K to the moving van co, and that was with us doing the boxing and prep work. And they don’t carry plants in conatainers, paint, HazMat, welding bottles, lawn equipment had to have drained gas tanks, no LP gas tanks or gasoline cans.
I'm not sure where they are all going, but there are a lot of people going somewhere with all their wordly goods packed up.

GtG
A fuller database from the Census folks here -

Harder to sort out the big picture though...
I’ve been thinking lately about the Okies moving out of the dust bowl heading ANYWHERE else.
Thanks for the map...truly interesting!
One solution is to require passports from all marxist states...and never issue any. Sort of like MD does with the concealed-carry license...
OTOH, encourage all private enterprise with no ties to dear leader to emigrate into the red states.
And the sad part about the Northeasterners moving into North and South Carolina is that they start trying to change the states into the liberal hell-holes they moved to escape!
It’ happened all over the west...Oregon, Washington, New Mexico, and Colorado. They are trying to get footholds in AZ and ID now, too.
Rugged individual Westerners with frontier and pioneer spirit would never have gone that way without in-migration from liberal cesspools.
Not all NE’ers are liberal. There are quite a few conservatives here, and they might be your new neighbors, so take heart.
I really fear this could happen, too. My husband and I are hoping (within the next few years if possible) to get the heck out of The People's Socialist Republik of Connecticut. So far South Carolina is #1 on our list.
Last time we were there, we met a LOT of people who had recently re-located there from the north, particularly from Ohio. Made me a bit uneasy... I just hope they're conservatives (I couldn't tell).
That's all we would need... to spend a ton of $$$ re-locating to a Red State, only to find out it has turned into a Blue or Purple State. :-(
Interesting map... thank you!
But you are right, it is very interesting to play with.
Oh, I do know quite a few conservatives, but sadly, we don’t have much political sway in the Commonwealth.
I hear you. :(
IMO, South Carolina will be deep purple like North Carolina within eight years. The generations that built South Carolina's conservative reputation are dying off. Immigrants from other states and nations bring their political views. SC's economy statewide is poor(we are basically Mexico to BMW, Michelin, and Boeing). The state GOP talks the conservative talk but are nothing more than tax and spend despots. Add in huge unfunded state/local governmental pensions and looming unfunded Federal mandates, no wonder that South Carolina is listed among the fiscal death spiral states in Forbes magazine. This of course will lead to more Federal dependency and constituents of the Progressives. Not to say that SC has not had a great run however. Mississippi or Alabama look like the states that will stay Red the longest.
