Last year was the hottest on record for the continental United States, shattering the previous mark set in 1998 by a wide margin, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced Tuesday.

Propaganda. Why are we now shivering at 20 below Zero Fahrenheit in Northern Maine?

NOAA are the propaganda pikers of the 1st order, masters of slight of hand statistics..

I don't recall a single day of 100+ temperatures last summer.

Wish I could say the same for Texas. We broke records for consecutive days over 100 degrees last summer. Again.

My mom told an interesting story about Alamosa when she and dad were there in the winter of 1945-46.

It was so cold in the motel the water in the trap on the sink froze. Dad came in drunk and promptly threw up in the sink, then went to bed. When they got up the next morning there was a full sink of frozen puke, and HE had a real weak stomach! They promptly moved back to NE New Mexico.

Europe and Russia experienced record cold during that time.

And Dallas, TX.

I call bull on that weather.com chart for July 2012. It shows average high temps in the mid-eighties. I worked outdoors in the DFW area nearly every day this last summer, and I don't think we saw a single day that wasn't 100+ in July.

They must have been taking their high temp readings before 9:00AM every day.

Does NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) keep two separate sets of climate books...

NJ already built a rail line in your swamp. They also built a housing development in the rest of your swamp. Your lower land in NY was covered by the ocean. As for your beach house on the coast. The tide came in.

It's hot in south Louisiana every summer, but this last summer I didn't find it as hot as others past.
Didn't have as many ringing wet in 20 minutes days as usual, don't think it's my imagination.

If any college student were to use the same level of scientific investigation and reporting they would be failed. These government agencies lack even the rudimentary scientific skills for even simple projects. Claims of “warmest year ever” when checked relate to only the records that they have recorded, which are generally only a hundred years or so. And those records, for the most part, are riddled with errors and omissions. Additionally, most are not even comparable records: downtown asphalt parking lot next to an air conditioner vent compared to a school on the edge of town surrounded by a field. In many cases, where readings were missed, they just added them in based upon what they thought fitted the desired result. In other cases, they used smoothing methods to discard readings which did not match the desired results (6 readings downtown at 95 - 98 and 4 readings outside of town at 86-90 results in the 4 reading being discarded because the desired results are higher temperatures). They should make the book “How to Lie with Statistics” mandatory reading for all high school students. The easiest way to disprove most of their results is to request the data and details .... they will flatly refuse all requests even when requested by universities or professional organizations.

I will agree with that. I remember 1972 when on May 5 it was 105 degrees in Tulsa, OK, but the Weather.com site does not show that temp for that day.

By the end of January, everyone in the US will be wondering the same thing they are wondering in Europe and Asia right now. Are we entering a new ice age.

I agree. Alaska get walloped, then Russia, now China. A new clipper to swing to the lower 48 is just a matter of time.
Below 0 in the deep south is a sight to behold.
