Chuck Hagel, anti-Semite?

It has been suggested that Chuck Hagel is an anti-Semite. It has also been suggested that it is an outrage and a smear to call Barack Obama’s nominee to be secretary of defense an anti-Semite. For my part, I don’t know. But these accusations and defenses have come from serious people.

First, the naysayers, because denying the charge is actually easier than leveling it. (“How dare you?” often suffices as a riposte.)

Here are the arguments:

1. Chuck Hagel is not an anti-Semite because some Jews — in Israel, in Nebraska, in the Senate — like him.

2. Chuck Hagel is not an anti-Semite because he believes in a strong US-Israel relationship and has said so.

3. Chuck Hagel is not an anti-Semite because that’s a smear used to tar those who: a) disagree with the Likud; b) disagree with current Israeli policy; c) have the guts to stand up to the Jews/Jewish lobby/Israel.

Let’s take these arguments on one by one:

“Jews like him!”: Just because you can persuade some Jews you do not hate them does not mean you can dodge the “anti-Semite” bullet. To assuage the sure-to-follow screams of Hagelites, we must add the corollary; just because some Jews despise you doesn’t automatically mean you are an anti-Semite, either. Bottom line: “Some Jews” won’t help. Jury still out.

Next: Chuck Hagel is not an anti-Semite because he believes in a strong US-Israel relationship. First, failing to believe in the relationship doesn’t make you an anti-Semite, unless your views are informed by a hatred of the Jews. On the other hand, it is manifest that despite protestations to the contrary, Chuck Hagel does not believe in the US-Israel special relationship. A review of his work makes clear that he is persuaded that the relationship has come at the

I am less worried whether he is anti-semitic than whether he is pro-Islamist (Muslim Brotherhood et.al.). He wouldn’t be nominated in the first place unless he is willing to implement the criminal agenda of this Traitor regime.

Has Hagel gotten the memo to only call Jerusalem “Al-Quds”?

Limbaugh says that obama wants a Republican to be in charge when the DOD is dismantled by him. He [obama] wants to be able to say, “It was the Republicans who slashed the Defense Department to the bone.” His [obama’s] man refused to do it and stepped aside, but a Republican stepped forward and agreed to do it.

Barry Obama as Commander in Chief. John F Kerry as Secretary of State. Chucky Hagel as Secretary of Defense. Are you feeling safer yet?

Drive-by smear piece. I am not a huge Hagel fan, but I am sickened by the demands for utter supplication to a foreign power, no matter who that nation is. NEVER in history have 2 state’s national interests interlinked to the point of equal alliegance being due to each other by their respective command structure. In Israel’s case, the kow-towing, regardless of which US party is in power has been one-way in their favour to a breath-taking degree for decade upon decade, whilst America has reaped bon mots in return such as the USS Liberty.

He doesn’t support our Israel and he likes those Moslems, so I think he’s unfit and a Jew hater.

I honestly can’t tell if that’s meant to be satirical. If not, what do you mean, “our Israel”?

Why on earth would that work? 95% of the country probably doesn’t know who’s defense secretary now, and in a week they’ll forget Hagel’s name if ever they knew it. Not to say they’ll blame Obama. Maybe there won’t be any noticeable difference, and maybe if there is the blame’ll get shifted back to the wild cowboy Bush and his “unfunded” war.

Point is they’ll either blame Obama or not, and I don’t see Havel meaning anything one way or another. Unless there’s a scandal waiting to break and they need a Pub for the headlines. Can’t write that off completely.

And Muslims. But that might be poking the bear.

There is the land, where important events happened thousands of years ago, and there are the countries, Israel and the US, which are not holy. I don’t like to confuse the two.

Without Israel, the country, the Moselms would destroy Christian churches and Jewish synagogues in the Holy Land.

There is no comparison between the US and Israel when it comes to land that is Holy. Israel is the protector.

Who will or won’t protect the holy land doesn’t concern our foreign policy, or at least I don’t think it should. I bring up the US in the same breath as Israel because it is the defense of the US at issue here, not who best or most directly protects the holy land. When your policies are dictated to that extent by religious concerns, to the point where you make another country’s sovereignty equal to yours, religion is overstepping its proper sphere.

It’s not as if you can eve tweezers out deluging from policy, and might not want to if you could. However, this particular motivation: protecting the holy land from desecration, is far enough away from legitimate government interest that it is irrelevant.
