The next two weeks are going to get tense inside the headquarters of the New York Times.
Last month, executive editor Jill Abramson told the staff shed have to cut 30 positions from the news division to buffer against financial losses from rapidly declining advertising revenue. Reporters and editors would be offered buyouts, she said, but if she didn't have enough takers in a months time, she would be forced to go to layoffs.
As the January 24 deadline approaches, only two people, assistant managing editor Jonathan Landman and reporter Jacques Steinberg, have formally announced their exits.

You can be sure that the pure Marxists will remain.
Krugman will be the one who finally turns out the lights.
They should offload the Boston Globe to save money. Then the Globe can be no more and the socialists will have one less mouthpiece here in MA.
Ah, music to my ears. Keep up the good work, Jill.
Suffer, you bastards!
I love watching the slow death of this intellectually corrupt newspaper.
Unless NYT goes conservative and prints the truth, they are doomed to failure. Never happened in the past; can’t see it happening now.
For years I’d read the New York Times on the morning subway ride to work . . . and then one day I realized it was just a lot of pretty sentences with no underlying substance. I switched to the New York Post as my morning paper, and have been happier and more informed about the news that matters ever since.
Pink slips at the NYT?
Always knew there was a bunch of fellas walking around in women’s underwear @NYT.duh. It’s on 42nd street at Times Square you know. Ho’s, pimps, and trannies been hanging out there for decades.
Is Huffpos ready for an avalance of resumes?
Is Huffpos ready for an avalanche of resumes?
A bunch of Al Gorezeera employees will be getting the boot soon, too.
But they’re not going to cut the editorial section. I, for one, always want to know the opinions of the writers at the New York Times. Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!
I worked in a place that did exactly that, I came in a few years after the bloodletting.
The big dog I worked for had his salary cut in HALF! This did not make him a happy worker. He's a fellow Viet vet, before leaving on vacation told me don't call because he will not answer, what are they would they do 'send me to Vietnam'?
A Pinch in time saves nine.
We could get some DUmmies to rewrite the DNC releases for free?
Pray for America
But Obama got reelected. How can it be bad times if the savior has been put back in power?
They must be confused.
So, the new business strategy is to have a party where a business is blackmailed and to follow the lead of Forbes and the Weekly Standard in hosting a cruise.
Couldn’t happen to a nastier bunch of America hating commies.
Now is the time to strike. List the top 5 NY Slimes advertisers and lets get boycott letters out to them.
This is what the Tea Party is for. The opportunity to take down the old gray skank is before us.
That's my bet as well. It's a good time to purge themselves of the non-believer.
It's not the bottom line they seem to care about, it's the purity of their progressivism that's paramount.
LOL, especially all the debt from that ugly skyscraper they built.
Time magazine & NY Slimes losing money and jobs......LOL!!
That's because they don't want to report on events during Obama's administration.
This is evil.
At the NY Times, what's the difference?
Sure they did it before too but now they don't even need loose ties to everyday events and/or facts anymore.
My money's on Maureen Dowd skulking in a deserted alley, writing screeds on post-it notes and slapping them on various places in Manhattan in a final bid to have any "circulation" whatsoever.
A good opportunity to get rid of all those pompous ass music critics, who wouldn’t be able to distinguish Jingle Bells from Mahler’s Fifth.
HA! HA! HA!
There's something so sweet and fitting about that image...
I thought they would say ObamaCare is eating them up.
What am I thinking? They would NEVER say that!
Ya gotta give 'em that... they do write beautifully...
Funny! Good song AND good parody!
“...financial losses from rapidly declining advertising revenue....”
Tonight, I will eat a piece of homemade apple pie.
When those traitors finally go under, I will buy a nice bottle of Brandy and an expensive cigar. I will sit on the beach, breath the salt air and feel the ocean spray while listening to the crashing waves and the beautiful songs of seabirds. The next day, I will go fishing and smile every time I think of how those miserable ‘mistakes of nature’ are suffering.
I love celebrations. ;>)
They can always go to work for AL GORE.
Oops, sorry. They can aways go to work for AL JAZEERA.
Elitist. Class warfare!
breath=breathe..... I’ve always liked it better without the ‘e’.
I'm sure the Catherine Zeta-Jones posts are just around the corner!
