The blogosphere has exploded with outrage in response to news that Walmart is suspending ammunition sales in anticipation of the Obama administration’s gun-control recommendations to Congress – but the retail giant tells WND the reports aren’t true.
“That information is inaccurate,” said Ashley Hardie, a spokeswoman located at Walmart’s corporate headquarters in Bentonville, Ark.
WND then asked whether the retail chain is cutting back on orders of ammunition.
“No,” Hardie said. “We’re continuing to serve our customers as we have in the past.”
She said Walmart’s ammunition sales policy has not changed, even amid talk of gun-control legislation in Washington, D.C.
The uproar began when the InvestmentWatch blog posted a story headlined, “Breaking & confirmed: Walmart is not going to order any more ammo.”
CNS News cited the report, and talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh mentioned it during his Monday show.
According to the InvestmentWatch report, a man claimed to have visited his local Walmart and noticed the store was “out of almost every kind of ammo.”

walmart still has problems. i have to stop at walmarts in the central valley if i want to buy ammo from them, since the ones i frequent in the SF bay area do not sell ammo. why is that?
i can think of several possible reasons: there are too many regulatory hoops to jump. they asked and our county/city governments won’t approve it. they are afraid to anger politicians in our area.
still the fact and the question remains: why doesn’t walmart sell in our area?

The Walmart story was a fabrication to gin up 2A defenders.
Walmart is in the same predicament as every other retail supplier.
They can’t supply what can’t be got. Hell, I go to my local Walmart and ain’t nothing on the shelves.
This happened in 2008 and after about a year I could suddenly find ammo after two years gun prices started to rationalize, as did supply.
Well, it was on the Internet and it can’t be wrong if it’s on the Internet...
yes. i said that our local stores here don’t sell ammo. i did ask employees at both kinds of walmart and they responded that they didn’t know why. so i’m still wondering why?

I didn’t worry as I have ample supplies. Still, I picked up some stray boxes of steel cased .308 and a couple bricks of .45.
4 years ago I had to go to gun shop in Hollister just to get ammo and all they had was S&W 230grain JHP .45.
Didn’t cost much more per round than full metal jacket 45 so bought 125 rounds.
Well, maybe it did cost more than full metal jackets but hell, when you been walking through the desert for 30 days crackers taste like full on Prime Rib.

Usually it’s based on local regulations, local politics, etc. Walmart takes the temperature of the new city very thoroughly before it finally decides on the departments they can present to the public. A gun department would be accepted in Joplin, not in any city in California.

LOL.... try shopping on the net and you will find “out of stock” listed enough to make you sick.
I bought a new Remington 870 shotgun on 12-16-2012. I have been researching, searching and shopping almost every day for stuff to modify the gun. It seems as though the entire world is competing with me. “Out of stock-no backorders” was EXTREMELY common.
Oh, and don’t even bother to call a vender, they have quit answering the phones, as well as emails.
Finally, as of yesterday, I now have what I need on order.

A month ago I could buy AR lowers all over the place and even some great AR’s.
Now, I can’t get lowers or complete AR’s except in the private market and the one that are available must be made of gold and some are platinum.
Same with .233/556. I was casually picking up a couole of boxes and sometimes bandoliers. One week after Newton,Barrack decided to make December 2013 a record for his sales and to cap it off he took 1-2 years worth of orders for several manufacturers.
I’m calmed down now and didn’t need an AR before Barrack sold out inventory nationwide and I’m moving on to Cowboy guns. I want start shooting in contests and it will make me happy to dress like The Lone Ranger, Paladin or The Rifleman.
On a brighter note, I just ordered 2 more Garand's! I even got one of the special builds re-barreled in .308... also ordered another 1000 rounds of .308 and 1000 30-06... MAN I can't wait for the FedEx guy!
Sadly, this is the money I had saved up for a real HK91 that I can no longer get for less than 4 grand. I can't wait til this is all passed by and the market is flooded with rifles people are trying to get rid of. I'm a pretty strong believer that this will wither away and Obama will have to settle for a few EO's that have absolutely no teeth whatsoever. Hopefully I am right...
Kmart is also a lot more expensive than Walmart.
If I'm not mistaken, no one does ordering at a Walmart store. Whenever an item is scanned and sold, it is reordered automatically. Individual stores don't even control their own thermostats.
Were the two Walmart sporting goods employees (in my case, the only one in the store with key to the ammo case) lying to us when they said ammo orders had been placed "on hold"? Why would they do that instead of just saying the distribution center -- 20 miles up the road -- is out of stock?
The “story” was pure unadulterated bullshit from the start.

The 2 Walmart employees were right and they spoke truthfully, before Corporate told them what they “should” be saying in situations like this. I believe Walmart is killing the gun/ammo departments, just like the door greeter. Cost and Controversy are the two biggest excuses for change at Walmart.
well if you are correct then it as i said. walmart has a problem. a big ethical problem. an “end justifies the means,” a potential crony capitalist problem. so don’t think they won’t cave to pressure from obama anywhere elsein the country.
i think all conservatives should continue going to their customer service page and urge them to keep their business by stocking ammo in *every* store.

Neither one was lyin. People hear and interpret things heard or interpret things visual differently and many times not from an informed point of view.
Trust me, I wish things were different but, they aren’t.
Only reason I’m irked is I bought a limited edition Omega watch at a smokin price, from a national company I’ve bought from before. Otherwise, I would have bought 2 or 3 AR’s.

Walmart has a HUGE ethical problem. On the one hand it truly sees itself as a humble ma-and-pa honest country store, while on the other it is acutely aware of its own clout. The atmosphe at Home Office is one of fear: Walmart HATES anything to do with controversy. It will deny, lie, do what ever it takes to maintain the image of the humble ma-and-pa country store. Walmart HATES the press that it cannot control, is afraid of Target, (they have less stores, but their margins are better), and even more afraid of Amazon, and is petrified of government. Don’t forget Leslie Dach, senior VP at Walmart is a big Obama supporter.

That’s what I think too. I think the Obama administration is putting the screws to retailers, manufacturers and distributors. Like McDonalds, I easily think Walmart will cave or may have already.
Like you said, I think in two to three years Walmart will sell quietly off all remaining inventory and be out of the guns and ammo business.

I just wrote this and was ready to hit the post button and realized it was you. I'll be more careful in the future.
Last month I bought ammo (shot and slugs)for a Remington 870 12 ga. and 243 ammo for a Remington rifle and 38 special hollow point ammo for two handguns, from CheaperThanDirt and it was promptly sent. Now, you can't get it.
About three weeks ago, bought a Ruger 25 magazine for Ruger 22 LR and it was delivered soon after I ordered it.
Just bought yesterday, 3 boxes of 50 each, 22 LR hollow points from Cabela’s to be delivered in one or two weeks.
Earlier this week bought a Ruger 22 LR from Kentucky Gun Co.. They had it in stock and will get here in a week or two due to their backlog of orders.
I have checked every gun co. I could find on the web and checked them every single day for over a week until one would get in what I wanted.
I can tell you from this experience of daily checking all these companies, there is not much left on the net now.
It's going to take some time for restocking if it ever happens. It has never been like this.

Stag Arms has a two-year backorder on their AR-15’s and thus have quit accepting any new orders for the time being so they can clear out some of their backlog. To help expedite the shipping process, employees from their front office have been brought back to assist with the packing and shipping.
Walked into a Great Wall of mart myself to see what was present...
On a deep cabinet that was maybe six feet tall and 8 for wide and 18 inches deep there was maybe 10 boxes of .22 shorts, 4 boxes of .270 Winchester and no more than 12 boxes of assorted bird loads of 12 and 20 gauge.
Empty spaces where the price tags were on the face of the shelf was telling for the small town the Chinese clearing house was in.....
My observation was the 17 of this month at noon......
Asked the minority clerk when they had a new ammunition order coming in and she said she “ didn’t know or care” .....
Left that pos store and went home and showered to rid myself of the stink that recon left on me.....
Went to major outlets of academy and gander in the big city west of me and their ammo shelves are lean pickings as well.
Gonna hit my local Mom and Pop Gunrunners this evening to see what’s left on their shelves. I predict the run on ammo was panic induced. We reload and looked for components, primers, powder etc.... Even that selection is limited.
Folks seem to forget the last seditious administrations ban and such....
In good times folks seem to ignore such things. I can get lax on the amount of .460 Weatherby. magnum 500 grain solids on my self but case lots of 7.62x51, 5.56 and 12 ga is a serious consideration if your EBR’s are fed such. Stock up folks, before the election Magpuls P-Mags were 16$ each. Saw ONE at a pawn shop Saturday marked at 50$ ....used.
It’s so bad of late I brake for lead wheel weights on the road ....:o)
Just rambling here but I would bet good money that these same rats that pushed this bullshit this time loaded up on firearms and ammunition stocks and bonds before this rush on the industry for profit.
Bought for me and mine long ago, give to gifts to friends and good neighbors the same as presents over time as a form of Appleseed Project. Purchased a Corbin press a few years ago to make .224 jackets from spent .22 rimfire brass. The bullets made in this process are very good. Weights will vary a few grains so they are all minute of torso at 300 yet when sorted carefully a select batch are left for more accurate needs of the sod poodle eradication efforts here in the high plains.
Of well ....just my opinion and local observations....

Back in the early 1990s, you actually could buy ChiCom ammo ... "Norinco" brand. The steel cased 7.62x39 was good stuff. The steel cased 7.62x25 Tokarev was reputed to be good stuff. The brass cased 9mm Luger was absolute dog crap: duds, blown primers, split cases ...
Then Slick Willy banned import of firearms and ammunition from Red China.
We still have a KMart in my town and I actually love that store - more so than Walmart. I miss the little food stand they used to have where you could buy 2 subs for just $5.00 and they were delicious.
Many dedicated ammo businesses have also frozen orders. They are out of product and they have ceased taking back orders, because they too are on a back order list for reapply. Ammo factories in the US are running 24/7 and are falling farther and farther behind.
Walmart is in the same boat. They’ve emptied their warehouses and what is coming in is a small percentage of demand.

The biggest clue, by far, was the mentioning of the Second Amendment. There is NO TALK AT ALL of making a ‘decision’ on the Second Amendment, as in repealing or changing it.
At most, at the very most, we’ll just ignore it again, and pass legislation like it doesn’t exist. And that won’t even happen - as the leaders of Congress, even the Democrats, know that gun control legislation is DOA, BY A MILE. They’ll need school shootings every week, for several months, before they can get anywhere with Congress (which is just fine by me - not the shootings, but the difficulty in getting it through Congress).
Now the President, via Executive Orders, may try some stunts, but even he is limited, since Congress can vote to override him (yes, I know, it takes two-thirds to deal with his veto), but the Dems DO NOT want to be in a position of either siding with their voters or siding with Obama...and, believe me, they are letting the president know it.
Because that isn't what their computer says when the warehouse is empty. It says "on hold". The employees don't need to know not do they desire to know why it's "on hold".

Even if true, Remington will not have any problem at all selling to other outlets...and Remington can charge what are now market prices for their product - rather than being locked into near-zero margins with Walmart (as they do with all their suppliers).
I cannot think of a BIGGER GIFT to the US arms industry than to set them free to charge market prices, giving them money to upgrade and expand their operations.
As to Walmart...they know their customer base is the Red States...so they know they are pushing things to join the president in his gun-grabbing crusade.
