Obama Asks Doctors to Help Deal With Guns
Weekly Standard ^ | 1/16/13 | Daniel Halper

Posted on 01/16/2013 9:49:53 AM PST by illiac

According to a background briefer provided by the White House, President Barack Obama is asking doctors to help deal with guns. Here's the relevant passage:

PRESERVE THE RIGHTS OF HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS TO PROTECT THEIR PATIENTS AND COMMUNITIES FROM GUN VIOLENCE: We should never ask doctors and other health care providers to turn a blind eye to the risks posed by guns in the wrong hands.

 Clarify that no federal law prevents health care providers from warning law enforcement authorities about threats of violence: Doctors and other mental health professionals play an important role in protecting the safety of their patients and the broader community by reporting direct and credible threats of violence to the authorities. But there is public confusion about whether federal law prohibits such reports about threats of violence. The Department of Health and Human Services is issuing a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits these reports in any way.

Well, for security reasons, why would you discuss your personal security requirements with anyone else? Seriously. You’re a marine, I am sure you are aware loose lips, and all that.

But I seriously think we need to flip the discussion intimately to the doctor’s guns. And not let up. Because that’s the only way it might get through to them how they are coming off to everyone else. And maybe they’ll just shut up about it, if they were even inclined to ask in the first place.

“...but I am seeing complaints from Doctors that they are being coerced out of private practice ...”

Maybe so, but there’s always a way. About time we started actively and aggressively finding a way around EVERYTHING.

Find it, act on it, do it, and help others to do so as well.

They will also have the NEA get teachers to ask children if there are guns in the house.

This looks like France in 1940 when they ask french people to denounce the jews to help the german army and show the german where the jews family live so they would not be so hard on us..they did.

Obama Asks Doctors to Help Deal With Guns

This is so stupid. All you have to say is NOYB (None of your business).

Or, you can take the 5th Amendment, or give your name, serial number and date of birth, if you prefer.

These clowns can always ask, but that doesn't mean that we have to answer!

Perhaps the NRA could have its own listing of doctors who are amenable to patriots.

Now that is one OUTSTANDING idea, I bet over 4 Million members would use that list. I know I would.

As a doctor, I’ll ask that question only if it is pertinent.... for instance, when the patient appears to be suicidal or homicidal...or makes threats to others...otherwise it is none of my business personally nor professionally if they exercise their constitutional rights!

The only connection doctors should have with guns (other than their own personal owndership/use) is to treat gunshot wounds.

NOTHING ELSE! It’s not their GD business!

Health insurers will charge an additional 30% under Obama Care, if you have guns in your home. Thats the next step. Soon people will have to decide between health insurance and possession of guns.

Doctors will question you, your wife, and your kids ( “ Do you have any guns in your home?).

my Doc has already told me obama care and socialist health care is wrong, he also told me about how many Docs think stay silent on the sick practise of homosexuality and all the diseases from feces they get but PC stops them from saying this openly.

If obama thinks the Docs around this part of the state will help him then he;s even more of an idiot than I first thought

Doctors will question you, your wife, and your kids ( “ Do you have any guns in your home?).

Of course, we can and many/most will just say no. However, if the ATF gets their mitts on the 4473's and they tie the Obamacare national healthcare database together that's defacto gun registration. From there they can do all sorts of nefarious things like withhold healthcare, levy additional taxes, etc.

They will just regulate the rest of our guns out of existence like full autos are today.

My husband was in the ER for some sort of panic/breathing issue a few months ago. The nurse asked, right in front of me, if he felt safe at home. I rolled my eyes and said, “I know what’s coming next...”

The nurse said it was indeed a new, goobt-mandated question. I told my husband to be sure not to answer anything about guns — should they get him alone or caught unaware.

I also thought it was ridiculous — because let’s just say I was poisoning (or abusing) him or something. Or vice versa. They’re asking right in front of the spouse, what else is he going to say but “yes,” he feels safe. The nonsense in this day and age...

We should just tell them that it would jeopardise our families’ safety to answer, considering how leftist hack cowards like to get hold of this information by hook or crook and publish it to the world.

If they ask if you got guns tell them to break in and find out.

If you are carried out with a hole in you, yes.

If a shaft in your chest, a bow and arrow.

If a BIG shaft, a spear.

If your head is in two parts, an ax.

This was big back in the 90’s and the early 00’s, (these cats never have any new ideas, it’s always the same old nonsense).

I did offer to take the doc to the range for a free NRA certified pistol lesson, which offer was rather rudely declined.

Not so. From the PACA [Obamacare law]:

LIMITATION ON DETERMINATION OF PREMIUM RATES OR ELIGIBILITY FOR HEALTH INSURANCE.

A premium rate may not be increased, health insurance coverage may not be denied, and a discount, rebate, or reward offered for participation in a wellness program may not be reduced or withheld under any health benefit plan issued pursuant to or in accordance with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act or an amendment made by that Act on the basis of, or on reliance upon—

(A) the lawful ownership or possession of a firearm or ammunition; or

(B) the lawful use or storage of a firearm or ammunition.

Yes, but that doesn’t mean that the risk to health is not greater due to violence in the home where a child is being taught to use a fire arm, even though too young to use a firearm.

That would be an increased health risk due to likely violence, not due to the ownership of a firearm or ammunition.

There is no way this clause you have cited would be a stop gap to assessing a greater health risk and thus a greater premium, or denial of service, due to potential violence in the home.

You need to read how the Nazis did it in Germany, where such protections as you cite were easily circumvented by other derivative catchment.

REFUSE TO ANSWER! You must obstruct, delay, sabotage, refuse any directive by socialist obozo. Go underground, and join groups of like minded men and women who believe as you do in the Constitution, our Freedom and Rights. I have mentioned this group before, but do check out www.oathkeepers.com. This group is composed of active and veteran military, active and retired police officers, firemen who have taken the oath to defend and uphold the Constitution against enemies both foreign and DOMESTIC, who will refuse to obey any unlawful order to confiscate or obstruct citizens from gun ownership. OR IF YOU ARE JUST a man or woman who believes in all of the above and want to join a group of like-minded people, this is the group for you. Many husband wives are members, and there are members listed by state that you can join up with.

Take a look at their website, www.oathkeepers.com, and if you agree with their goals, sign up and join. They provide a wealth of information, support and opportunities.

Just today, while being given instructions by a nurse over the phone in preparation for my endoscopy tomorrow, I was asked if I was returning home to a safe environment. I knew the question was out of the ordinary, and I also knew that the nurse had to ask it, along with the other instructions on what to bring with me tomorrow, what medications I could take, etc. It's no one’s business as to whether my environment is “safe” or not, UNLESS I want to ask for assistance because I cannot take care of myself if I happen to live alone, or for whatever reason. It's a case of the camel poking its nose under the tent...they are asking for info that is none of their business unless I MAKE IT SO.

It's been my experience that every doctor and nurse I've encountered is disgusted with obomacare and its demands, and have made that clear. One of my physicians has Rush on the radio in his Waiting Room. Anther has had a conversation with me about obozo and his dislike for him. When I've asked a doctor about what obomacare will deny me in the future, it was evident he was angry, but said that there were no limitations on what care I could receive at this point, and he's taking full care of his patients without limits (this was told to me in December of 2012.) Another doctor, a former military, has the flag hanging in his Waiting Room and a picture of the Constitution hanging on the wall. I have no qualms about asking doctors about obomacare, and so far, they've had no qualms about telling me of their disgust.

I have been told by a doctor that they have to ask a particular question, or they will not be paid for their portion of the claim to be submitted to Medicare. I want the doctor to be paid, and the question, and I can't even remember it, but do remember that it was not intrusive, was harmless. But, because it is out of the ordinary for them to ask it, they feel compelled to preface it with an explanation before they ask the question.

The doctor is not a “tool.” This question was also asked of me by my gastroenterologist, in preparation for an endoscopy. It's a Medicare requirement question, I believe, it isn't intrusive and the doctor, hospital won't get paid if they don't ask the question and type in the answer online in order to do so. NOW, if they do start asking anything about guns, I will answer that that question has nothing to do with my healthcare. Period. Do not cooperate by answering yes or no. Refuse to comment on anything that does not pertain to your healthcare. Do not allow obozo to think he can demand an answer to any question that he poses. Refuse, obstruct, delay, sabotage any and all ways that you can to any of obozo’s commands or executive orders.

Someone asked me this question in the hospital and I smiled and said, “yep”.

Remember Elizabeth Smart’s case? If someone had asked her this in a public setting, she might have said no, please help me. It’s exactly for that kind of setting, where there is someone else from home nearby and the injury can’t be ruled out immediately as abuse, etc.

They also are going to require all our records to be stored electronically...what could possibly go wrong?

Most doctors are using EHR (electronic health records)- to practice medicine it will be required in 2014. One doctor I know has not gone to the EHRs, and does not intend to continue practice after that time.

One of the questions of the admitting nurse was “is your home safe?

I had surgery two months ago, and there were several questions along the lines of “do you feel safe in your home”. Small town, not a big metro hospital.

I have never ever had so many specific questions asked of me for a hospital admission.
