Zero Hedge ^ | 01/16/2013 | Tyler Durden

Posted on 01/16/2013 10:46:25 AM PST by SeekAndFind

The following is a list, provided by the White House, of executive actions President Obama plans to take to address gun violence.

1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.

2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.

3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.

4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.

5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.

6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.

7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.

8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).

9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.

10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.

11. Nominate an ATF director.

12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.

13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.

14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.

15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.

16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.

17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.

18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.

19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.

20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.

21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.

22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.

23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.

Quite frankly, most of this list is 1) lets study this or 2) lets look at that. For those who wanted the president to actually do something, all he did was put on a good show. There is very little of substance in this list. It looks like they took some presidential aide’s list of to do’s and published it.

I am sorry they have cynically chosen to make MY Dr. the point of THEIR spear...but I recognize him as an adversary, not a “friend”. ALL of them are.

YEP
LEO and Doctors are all going to be used as the point of the spear.
They are the Dear Reader's human shields.
Now, LEO and Doctors just became nothing more than a service provide to me. They are not my friends or acquaintances. I owe them nothing more than payment for services rendered
LEO has a very hard decision to make. Some will follow the Dear Reader in hopes of advancing their own careers (and putting beans on the table). Others will see the deadly gamble and betrayal that it really is.

This is a time of choosing; a time of great sifting

Hey, George P. Bush wants a piece of the action soon. Haven’t you taken stock of that list of losers the Republican party has advanced? George H. Bush, Bob Dole, George W. Bush, John McCain and recently Romney. Every single one of them was and is a RHINO.

While much is fluff, the trick here in some of them is finding new ways to disqualify people from owning firearms, via your doctor.

Yep! #4 is going to turn out to be quite the hidden gem via your doctor or otherwise:

Expect to see broad new categories of people prohibited to own firearms. Non-violent misdemeanors, DWI, reckelss driving, minor drug offenses. Hell, maybe even bad credit or bankruptcy! And like Lautenburg, it'll be applied retroactively and a felony offense for non-compliance.

Absolutely none of these proposed “regulations”, NONE of them, would have prevented Adam Lanza from doing what he did.

This is just a power grab, pure and simple.

I predict the gun-control wackos are not going to be pleased.

That's the very first thought I had. They're throwing a candy bar on the table when the anti-gun crazies want a full course meal.

It will be interesting to see how the MSM tries to spin these 23 "executive orders" to the public in the next 24 to 48 hours.

Yeah, I FULLY EXPECTED a total import ban today.

That'll teach me to put my money where my expectations are. Dang. Oh well, fun ahead! ;-)

1,2,3,4 Are all about increasing the information in a “Federal background check system”. Only information enumerated and approved by Congress should be allowed to be in that database.

5. We need better laws and penalties preventing unlawful seizure. There should be time limits on returning guns and the criteria for not returning one needs to be crystal clear. And there should be a quick and inexpensive appeal process to challenge any findings preventing gun return.

6. Providing background checks for private sellers may not be a bad idea. But it should require the consent of the buyer. And Congress should regulate the retention of any data collected in the process. Background checks should not be allowed to become a defacto method of gun registration.

7. Education on safety is okay but they should be prevented from promoting gun registration to states in any way.

8, 15 Safety reviews are fine. Regulations requiring private owners to have locks and safes is not.

9, 10, 14, generates useless reports.

11, 12, 13 were things they were probably going to do anyway.

16 Doctors shouldn’t be allowed to keep a record of whether people have guns in their homes. Doctors can provide gun safety information to homes of children, but they don’t need to ask to be able to do that.

17 is nonsense, I doubt there are many health care providers confusing health privacy with threats of violence.

18 Is a “school resource officer” an armed guard? If so, fine. Maybe they can double teaching a shooting class.

19 Got to stop those Bible clingers! Actually law enforcement should be working with houses of worship to keep them safe. But this one needs to be watched that it doesn’t become oppressive against houses of worship. Especially in light of Homeland’s security stance on Christians being terrorists.

20, 21, 22, 23 are all focusing on mental health. We do need to make it easier to commit a dangerous person, while at the same time, making it harder to use commitment as a means of violating a person’s rights. We made a mistake turning the mentally ill out on the street. This shooting could have been avoided if the mother wasn’t having to jump through hoops to get her son committed.

Yes, you are correct. It is that pesky intrusive information sharing that I am concerned with. All Obama legislation seems riddled with this. I share your enthusiasm regarding the replacement of any politicians willing to go along with the dismantling of the 2nd amendment.

I can understand your concern, but you must also realize that they didn't need this tragedy/gun 'violence' thing to do what they intended to do anyway. They planned all along to amass all that information for one thing----control!

They could give a rat's patooty about doctors sharing information more efficiently. It's about billing, it's about singling out people, it's about 'classifying' people, and then using that information to control people, period.

I like #4, it will disarm Eric Holder and most of the federal government.

You're joking, right?

ding...ding...ding...

as i read the list, its all about implementing bambamcare parts and ramping up the disqualified list...

the 'under the radar' stuff isnt going to be telegraphed with the vocal pushback weve seen the last few weeks...

>>Hope all the conservatives who stayed home (or voted for some third party loser) in November are pleased with themselves today.
I was never a Romney fan, but what happened today would ABSOLUTELY NOT happen under a Romney administration.

And the Marxist hasn’t even been inaugurated into his second term yet. We’re in for a helluva ride over the next four years...<<

I have said for SOOO long — the perfect is the enemy of the good (or, in this case, the not so awful).

“I AIN’T GONNA VOTE FOR NO ROMNEY-CARE MAKIN’ RINO!” was the response I got (and the occasional ping to JR crying to Daddy that the bad man — me — was making them butt hurt). And then they present flawed math and flawed logic why throwing their vote away was NOT a vote for obozo. The emmaculation II results and the soon to be illegal but allowed nationwide gun-grab say otherwise.

Yes, I blame them. As should we all.

Had the stay-at-homes held their noses and voted for Romney, obozocare would be a few days from repeal and guns settled unmolested in holsters and gun racks in homes of patriots across the country.

Get ready for them to talk a good game but when it comes down to it they will capitulate rather than be the next Ruby Ridge.

I live in TX — I am pretty safe since I know our Government will fight 6 ways to Sunday to keep my 2nd Amendment Rights and the gummint is too scared to come after REAL push-back (if not, the Nation is through and we can AGAIN thank those people).
