President Obama defended the idea of entitlements like Medicare and Social Security in his second inaugural address Monday, arguing that these programs strengthen the nation and free Americans to "take the risks that make this country great."
"We reject the belief that America must choose between caring for the generation that built this country and investing in the generation that will build its future," Obama said. "For we remember the lessons of our past, when twilight years were spent in poverty, and parents of a child with a disability had nowhere to turn."
He continued: "We do not believe that in this country, freedom is reserved for the lucky, or happiness for the few. We recognize that no matter how responsibly we live our lives, any one of us, at any time, may face a job loss, or a sudden illness, or a home swept away in a terrible storm. The commitments we make to each other through Medicare, and Medicaid, and Social Security these things do not sap our initiative; they strengthen us. They do not make us a nation of takers; they free us to take the risks that make this country great."

Whatever you say there Man's County.

I am actually very happy Bath House included this line in his little rant.
It shows that the truth hurts.
Squish the church into a corner then complain it’s not there when people need help... that’s our Big Eared Boy.
Sure Barry, as long as everyone has the same entitlements and everyone pays for their entitlement programs equally.
And abortion doesn’t make us into a nation of killers and same sex marriage doesn’t make us into Sodom and Ghommorah...
every barry statement is a deliberate perversion
arguing that these programs strengthen the nation and free Americans to “take the risks that make this country great.”
History repeats....
In the end, more than freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all security, comfort, and freedom. When the Athenians finally wanted not to give to society but for society to give to them, when the freedom they wished for most was freedom from responsibility, then Athens ceased to be free and was never free again.
- Gibbon
History will show that the US was yet again another country that thought that ‘this time is different’ until it wasn’t
‘The hubris of empire repeating itself’.
Twists everything both out of context and out of proportion (minimizing and maximizing by turns).
The skinny little mulatto queerbait can try to redefine whatever he wishes.
Doesn’t make it so. Guess he hasn’t figured that out yet.
I guess 16 trillion+ in debt isn’t enough risk.
it comes naturally to him, hence the smooth delivery
that’s his “gift”
He musta french kissed the blarney stone
Almost half the US was glad to buy this kind of cr@p. How can they be so sure that the cr@pmeister won’t turn his lies on them?

OK, Skippy, I'll bite. If your entitlement leeches aren't takers, are they moochers?
Do you know the difference or are you a moocher like them? You certainly do everything to look and act like a moocher.

PS:"For we remember the lessons of our past, when twilight years were spent in poverty, and parents of a child with a disability had nowhere to turn."
Obviously, minimusollini has never known someone trying to live only on social security, or anyone who's drug &/or booze habits and hard partying while pregnant awarded them with a house full of assorted disabilities and a steady income.
JFK sure would have oy-veyed at the teleprompter-parroting lightweight in the White Hut now. But JFK lived in the day when some liberals still had a little sense left.
Alright then. Not takers. Freeloaders. Squatters. Leeches. Parasites. Take your pick.
The king of devils is now in charge...soon the earth will know what that means.
People have their own issues to deal with and their own problems to solve. No mans need legitimately becomes another mans obligation. Using the law to attempt to legitimize larceny does diminish the larceny. These socialist schemers imagine themselves to be generous and caring because they are willing to give away others people’s money. With that money they bankroll a constituency to perpetuate their rule. I do not see a solution short of a massive display of armed resistance
I don’t consider myself a taker. I’m receiving Social Security, a program I’ve paid into for 50 years and am still paying into.
About all you can do is laugh. America is being taken down in a racist revolution. Powered by illegal “immigration”, and the republicans are sitting around worrying about being called racists.
Just think,a few years ago the little queer would have bringing us coffee.

Baraq is like that family in 2007 riding a wave of false prosperity based on maxxed out credit cards and helocs on a house with negative equity. Two leased luxury SUVs and a Mcmansion.
It’s all good until the bubble pops.
We reject the belief that America must choose between caring for the generation that built this country and investing in the generation that will build its future,” Obama said. “For we remember the lessons of our past, when twilight years were spent in poverty, and parents of a child with a disability had nowhere to turn.”
Yeah, well, that’s all well and good ...but most of the people we’re choosing to care for are neither the elderly or the disabled, but rather the able-bodied inner city dwellers, and illegals. Old people are gettin’ thrown under the BUS at warp speed.
Oh, and yeah — illegals ARE building everything ...taking construction and road jobs from Americans and pockeing the welfare cash they get, then sending it back to Mehico.
You’re hardly alone in viewing the SS program that way, but (1) it wasn’t designed as a purely investment based plan in the first place and (2) to the extent that it might have operated like an investment based plan, they squandered what was paid in and have to make the payments to you now out of taxes of people like me, who probably won’t ever see an actual SS.
Realize the huge value of the death panels.
They can do much to fix Baraq’s impending problem with SS and Medicare.
Slicing the average lifespan is a powerful tool.
Somebody will have to explain to me how that works because from my experience it works just the opposite.
In my experience most people are risk adverse; they would rather not take risk if they dont have to.
I see risk takers for the most part falling in to two categories; those who by their very nature take risk and those who feel they must take risk to escape their circumstances.
They entitlement programs essentially insulates the great multitude from falling in to the second category.
And actually entitlement program for all intents and purposes traps people in their lowly circumstances because being naturally risk adverse they will stay in the lower class because trying to rise out of the entitlement class entails risk of loosing those benefits.
Obama, America's very own "Rocket Surgeon"
There is a third category, those who put risk in the context of faith in a God who wants people to do some things that they cannot necessarily calculate the results of.
Thanks SkyPilot.
The http://www.usdebtclock.org/ has recently been updated to show that the U.S. has exceeded it’s debt limit by over $46 Billion.
It also shows the actual employment vs. reported employment numbers.
He’s right.. It makes us a nation of people dependent on the King who buys their votes with entitlements. It was a HUGE mistake for the GOP to allow 0bama to ramp up the entitlement rolls for the past 4 years, unabated. HUGE mistake. This cannot be undone without massive civil unrest, so it will continue until America is no more and everyone becomes slaves for their pay.
Obama and the leftists who support him know that as well. They're telling the people what they want to hear as they slowly lead them to slavery. They have to get the guns in order to prevent an uprising when the pigs realize they've been pinned in and are being prepared for slaughter.
With all due respect, I believe you've missed the point. One of the most disgusting things about this President is that he wants the public to think his opponents see people like you and people like the guy with a Gucci hat and an iPhone buying steak at the checkout line with an EBT card (stole that last part from Iowahawk) as the same sort of person.
JFK was the lightweight in the WH back then. He’d blow Obama away.
Of course it does, unless you redefine the English language.
Of course confounding pure welfare (NO contributory participation whatsoever) with Social Security doesn't help clarity in any discussion.
When the number of welfare recipients grossly overwhelm the producers, the system fails.
It's simple math.
Far as I know, there is no such thing as "ebonics math."
Not takers...Criminal Crooks and Thieves who Steal under the color of authority.
That is exactly what he is trying to do. When they put Medicare and Medicaid together they are trying to legitimatize Medicaid as being the same sort of program that Medicare is. Funny we don't hear about the annual deductible related to Medicaid (which we continue to pay for monthly on Medicare by the way).
With the number of "disability" social security recipients approved in recent years due to the unemployment problem the program just got in much worse shape. Aren't they collecting ss for their spouse and kids too?
This from "The Taker In Chief"!
Doesn't matter what you think.
Your Social Security benefits are no more or less earned than the welfare queen with 12 kids by 12 different baby-daddys, or the babbling alcoholic who has never held a job, or the able-bodied willingly ignorant who "qualify" for permanent disability...
Exactly. Medicare is not a government "freebie". It is a program they force you into and then take your money by force to pay for it.
I am paying in to Medicare right now and I am twenty five years away from being forced into the "plan"
I have insurance and I would like to keep it but I can't. When I turn 67 I will have to give up my current insurance as primary (but still have to keep it as secondary)and pay for Medicare and my coverage will go down.
And this is suppose to be a benefit?
“Do not blame Caesar, blame the people of Rome who have so enthusiastically acclaimed and adored him and rejoiced in their loss of freedom and danced in his path and given him triumphal processions. Blame the people who hail him when he speaks in the Forum of the new wonderful good society which shall now be Rome’s, interpreted to mean more money, more ease, more security, and more living fatly at the expense of the industrious.” —Marcus Tullius Cicero (106-43 BC)
(3) it could never sustain that 60% of the eventual outflow would be the result of what did not even exist when Social Security was created: lifetime support for the indolent and their little bastards....
