Obama: Tough call on letting a son play football
yahoo/ap ^ | 1/27/13

President Barack Obama is a big football fan with two daughters, but if he had a son, he says he'd "have to think long and hard" before letting him play because of the physical toll the game takes.

"I think that those of us who love the sport are going to have to wrestle with the fact that it will probably change gradually to try to reduce some of the violence," Obama tells The New Republic.

"In some cases, that may make it a little bit less exciting, but it will be a whole lot better for the players, and those of us who are fans maybe won't have to examine our consciences quite as much."

In an interview in the magazine's Feb. 11 issue, Obama said he worries more about college players than he does about those in the NFL.

Congratulations, America. You have elected a wuss.

Not that every male has to play football...but that this clown is masquerading as a modern American man.

Also, how about that classy publication "New Republic" asking the clown about IF he had a son, would he let him play football?

How're those JOBS numbers, doin', folks? Gas prices? Food costs?

Nah, let's ask the clown about a game.

By the way--the "tough call" the clown talks about...he seems to have NO "tough call" qualms when it comes to wondering whether YOU should keep the money YOU earn, or whether YOU should be allowed to own a firearm of your choice. That isn't a "tough call" at all...his answer is an unequivocal, unapologetic "NO".

Because there just isn’t enough male hair stylists, interior designers, florists, and drapery hangers.

Physical toll of football isn’t squat compared to the physical toll of combat. Not to mention the psychological toll.

Why doesn’t someone ask him about sending his daughters into combat?

There are boatloads of parents out there wondering if their sons should play football. The issue of repetitive concussions is real. It’s not an issue you should shoehorn into politics.

I agree, especially with so many meathead coaches.

My parents let my brother play football. Went to all his games, took hike to other games, all that guy stuff. He must have taken a knock or two on the head too many, because he is the liberal of their children. I probably would not let a son of mine play, even though I love the game. Glad I don’t have to decide. There is just too much evidence of the brain damage.

“Some of us who love the game”. Right. I’m sure this wanker doesn’t even know what a first down is. However, the move is under way to get rid of American football for soccer - the “beautiful game.”

My son played competitive soccer through high school and college. There are just as many concussions and injuries on the soccer field with a lot less padding and protective gear. Soccer at the competitive level is a contact sport.

Your point is well taken. There is significant sports literature to show that the unsafest sports in descending order is Soccer, Basketball, then football. Football is well enough funded to explore safest equipment. Some of the problem is the coaches have no idea how to teach to tackle. One of the things I have heard that I kind of ilke — go back to leather only helmets. That will keep people from tacking with their head and playing appropriately “heads up”.

Wow! I thought Rush was off base when he said the Liberals would be attacking football as too dangerous.

Exactly right — or no helmets and pads at all, like rugby. There would still be concussions but the impacts would be less intense and players would not launch themselves head first at another player.
