The Boy Scouts of America is considering dropping a longtime ban on gay members, according to a spokesman.

“The BSA is discussing potentially removing the national membership restriction regarding sexual orientation,'' spokesman Deron Smith said in a statement obtained by FoxNews.com. "This would mean there would no longer be any national policy regarding sexual orientation, but that the chartered organizations that oversee and deliver Scouting would accept membership and select leaders consistent with their organization’s mission, principles or religious beliefs."

...the mothers seem to run the show both at the troop level and at the district level. the safety rules are completely out of control and the kids are coddled and babied.

The new pink uniforms

New requirements for only fabulous hairstyles

Yes...I have believed that for some time...my pastor addressed Romans 1 this past Sunday. We are currently under G-d's judgement, and homosexuality is one of the tools that He is employing.

It breaks my heart to say that the mere fact that the council is even considering this has halted our contributions to the BSA, effective immediately.

No more spaghetti dinners, etc.

No more cash donations.

No more items donated for fundraisers (garage sales, etc).

This has nothing to do with Boy Scouts, but is something amusing I read. In one of my quilting magazines, there’s an interview with a homosexual quilter. One of his responses: “I had the quilt made for my life partner’s 40th birthday and unfortunately we’re not together anymore...” You’d think the editor would’ve redacted the word “life” if they’re not together anymore. So much for the (alleged) “stability” of gay partnerships.

I agree. We gave up buying girl scout cookies a long time ago and no more boy scout popcorn if this pans out.

Those who stand up for nothing will fall for anything. My husband got his Eagle Scout. My nine year old son will not.

Homosexual men are pedophiles. It’s that simple. The catholic church made the mistake of allowing homosexual men through the seminaries because they were afraid of decreasing numbers of vocations... we all know how well that has worked out. A tragedy for the church and I say this as a practicing catholic.

What parent of a young boy would allow their son to go camping with pedophiles? Sandusky wishes this change had been made earlier for him.

In our culture Evil is disguised as “tolerance” “understanding” and “equality”. The goal is to destroy what is good and to celebrate sin while giving God the middle finger. Wonder how well that will work out?

They are being financially squeezed and harassed on many fronts. I don’t agree with this but I think it has to do with survival. \

Naturally a gay scout org is the end of the old order and end of scouting as we have known it.

I suspect that their financial troubles are just beginning, unless FedGov steps in and makes Boy Scouts part of the Obama Youth Corps.

I’m sorry, but if I have 2 gallons of water available a day from my well, and suddenly decide to start a farm, I’m not ‘forced’ to buy more water, I’m making a choice.

Same with the executive council: They started after the corporate donations to expand their abilities, and now that they have it, and are spending that money like crazy, they now ‘need’ that money to continue to spend money like crazy.

If these are the strings that come with the money, then the executive council needs to dissolve and go back to just being a volunteer organization. Scouting survived and thrived without a professional organization; the professional organization has been nothing but a detriment to Boy Scouts. There were other ways to accomplish the goals at the time, and they should have been more fully explored rather than turning away from the values of Scouting.

And before anyone imagines that their local council is safe; go take a look around. If there’s a BSA building, check the roster there. If there’s an HR position, then your local council likely depends upon corporate donations to continue to survive. And they will follow National’s path to continue paying salaries and benefits.

To take a quote from the liberals: No means NO! Scouting has already tried letting homosexuals near our children, and surprise, the children were molested.

I would not count on the Catholics too much. I may have LOST my BEST friend about a week ago—over the “gay issue”.

Too many catholics (and for that matter—ALL “Christians”), want to keep “one foot in the bible—and one foot(and sometimes more than one foot) in the WORLD!!

As for me—I WILL NOT COMPROMISE MY BELIEFS—FOR ANYONE. I KNOW how DANGEROUS fags can be—I was nearly a “Jessie Dirkising” in January of 1987.....and had to quit a job to PREVENT being one.

You are reading too much into this. National is saying that they will bow out of this and leave it to the local councils to decide what they want to do. For 99% of the country this would mean no change to the eligibility requirements for scout leadership. They also specify that charter partners have a say so too can you see LDS or Catholic church agreeing to this? Now a few local councils San Fran and Mass come to mind may chose to allow gay scout leaders. We will see where that road takes them. As conservatives do we not always preach that the level closest to the people should make the local calls. This is BSA national in Texas saying OK you out there in scout land make your own decision. National is about the $ and always has been.

No, I think you are trivializing it. It's going to start a shift, and the people pushing this will push harder. Read the comment boards... They are already complaining it's "optional bigotry" and that's not fair. They will push for a national pro-gay stance for all local levels..

My first troop in Springfield, VA had lots of active duty Marine, Army and Navy dads who accompanied the troop on our frequent hiking/camping trip. Good leadership by example. You really have to check out the details of a given troop before turning your sons loose. Some are great. Some are awful.

The real problem is large activities like summer camp, camporee’s etc. If a local charter allows homosexuals to inhabit their ranks, that is up to them. We will not support scout summer camps any further.

She doesn’t care about the likelihood, even more likelynnow, that her young sons might be preyed upon by men who will see this action by the Boy Scouts as practically condoning their pedophilia? Because that’s what it does. Sodomites love young boys, and here they’ve just been given a free buffet. They won’t be able to help themselves-they never are.
