[history]
Cats are one of the top threats to US wildlife, killing billions of animals each year, a study suggests.
The authors estimate they are responsible for the deaths of between 1.4 and 3.7 billion birds and 6.9-20.7 billion mammals annually.

Ban assault cats!

We’re proud of our cat’s feline hunting skills! She once killed a small rabbit, even though she was on a leash at the time, and her front paws are declawed. She can spot a mouse from across the yard, catch it, kill it bloodlessly, and take it back to her tent to eat in leass than a minute.

If you have a house you have mice. If you have a cat you have fewer mice. If you have fewer mice and don't have a cat, then you have snakes. If you have a snake infested house you might as well burn it down because you'll never get rid of the smell. I'd rather just put up with having to clean the kitty litter.

As with any animal, cats can have their population controlled. IIRC, the human is the steward of the environment according to God. Therefore, have a cat season on feral cats.
There are actually lots of them in our rural area, and yes, they can be a problem. Generally, they are the offspring of pets whose owners maxed out on the number of cats they wanted and then kept the others as “outside cats to kill mice.” I think an outside cat has a life expectancy of about 3 years.
Nonetheless, if there are too many, then thin the herd.

Cats are good at what they do.
We have three dogs. The spend a great deal of time going after the red squirrels who visit our bird feeder tree, but they nearly always fail. The squirrel sits up in the tree and teases them, and then makes off when the time is ripe.
Maybe they might get one squirrel a year. They’re very good guards, and they keep the raccoons and coyotes away from the chickens, but they aren’t very good at catching and eating. Seems like the only animals they can usually manage to grab are skunks—and that is not the best choice.

Cats aren't the only ones. Ever since the Bush administration there are all sorts of wildlife killing all sorts of other wildlife and EATING THEM!!
I hope that didn't shock anyone. EBT cards for predators NOW! And anyone who disagrees is just...just...just a speciesist.
To: xzins
the human is the steward of the environment according to God Now, take the opposite of this, and you get the agenda or the impetus behind this useless study.
Everything God values or commands, the left despises.

If they are to many they will die out.
Many communities, have humane societies that will give you traps for the cats, bring them in have them spayed or neutered and then you released again. That seems like a good plan.
I agree, we are to be stewards of our environment.

I have a pitbull mix that kills more animals than my four cats combined. He hates wild animals. So far he’s killed many armadillos, possums, coons, snakes, squirrels, and one of the neighbor’s dogs.

Tell us, tell us, what kinds of cats there are!"
I love the way the author describes cats as killing billions of "mammals". This is like those British papers describing perps as "Asian", which could mean anything from Singapore to Siberia to India to Afghanistan.
These furry friends dispatch mice, rats, voles, shrews, ground squirrels ... mostly vermin. Few dogs, no sheep, cows, pigs, bears, whales, dolphins, antelopes.
I wonder if these folks are so worried about predators mind wolves killing so many sheep, gazelles, deer, etc?
