"The Newtown Board of Education will be asking the town to make room for more armed police officers in its budget.

In a meeting Thursday, the board voted to request the town to add full time uniformed school resource officers to its four elementary school s for the next fiscal year was approved this evening. The officers would be Newtown police officers.

“Our parents are demanding of us that things are made safe and secure and certain measures areput in place,” said Chairwoman Debbie Leidlein. “So we’re being very thoughtful.”

Multiple police officers have been stationed at all Newtown schools since the December 14th shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary killed twenty children and 6 teachers. Those officers will remain at the school through the remainder of the school year. For the next fiscal year, resource officers were budgeted only to be at Middle and High Schools. ..."

Can’t open the door by turning the knob after it has been locked by key.

You can't open the door from inside when it is locked??

That doesn't sound legal by firecode.

Where I live, and in many areas, a locked exterior residential door must be able to be opened from the inside by turning the knob and never require a key to get out from the inside. Deadbolts must be able to be opened from the inside without a key, that is, by twisting the lever. You can't even have one that needs a key and you just leave the key in the lock when you are home. Someone might borrow the key and not put it back. In a fire, you can't get out through the door.

You might say, well, there will never be a situation like that in a school. Then it happens the next day. More lawsuits.

“Watch and see. A proposal will come forth to tax ALL firearms for some percentage (say 10%) to cover the cost of Armed Security Officers in all public schools.....it’s coming.”

You’re right. No doubt about it.

But why bother with antiquated things like proposals and meetings and public comment and actual voting so the taxpayers have a say where their money goes?

Why, the new and improved way to ‘get things done’ is the Executive Order.

I do not believe she knows that she's become a government pawn.

I'm more cynical. I believe she's been a government pawn all along. (Not saying the shooting was deliberate).

“I bet that will be a pretty boring job. I imagine this will never happen in Newtown again.”

It will be a boring job, and likely will never see a act of violence, but is it because of the guard, or what. In my opinion the guard is like having insurance, you hope you never have to use it, but you are glad when something does happen and you have it.

We have a large unemployment issue in the US, this is a job creator, with benefits. One large benefit is you get to be a role model for the children.

Since the liberals have screwed up this country with their lack of enforcement, liberal judges letting criminals off and all the other stuff the liberals have done and are doing to this country, this is one of the consequences, now we have to have armed guards everywhere.

It's sad really, I remember a time when we didn’t lock the doors when we went to the store, when it was hot we left the door open at night. Different times for sure, be we must adapt.

This seems like overkill to me. After all they can issue scissors to all the teachers!

They can even bring in the seamstress union, and put a brigade of PMSing sewing ladies with scissors in the lobby. (That would make me think twice...)

Sorry for the humor, the sexual stereotypes, the insensitivity, etc., ...everything that I’m ‘sposed to be sorry for, then I’m sorry for it.

PS: I won’t be intimidated at all with scissoring LGBTs

For retired people, it would be great. I imagine when all the legal stuff gets straightened out, we will see more guards in schools. Right now, I think the liability aspects of this have to be ironed out.

I don’t lock my car and I leave the door and windows open.

That’s what I was thinking. Barring copycat stuff, this school is probably the safest one in the entire country now. Statistically speaking.

Her husband is leading an assault on the 2nd Amendment using her for a prop. I’d bet money that he’s planning a political future...

I think this IS his political future. You don't think they paid for that trip or are footing any of her medical bills, do you?

Her whole story is just a terrible story and it's only getting worse.

Thanks FR_addict. Even my friend's nextrosexual sullen teen son -- who saddles on to whatever agitprop is trendy this week -- has started bitching on Facebook about the massive ammo buys by the US gov't.
