WASHINGTON (AP) - Most candy, high-calorie drinks and greasy meals could soon be on a food blacklist in the nation's schools.

For the first time, the government is proposing broad new standards to make sure all foods sold in schools are more healthful.

Under the new rules the Agriculture Department proposed Friday, foods like fatty chips, snack cakes, nachos and mozzarella sticks would be taken out of lunch lines and vending machines. In their place would be foods like baked chips, trail mix, diet sodas, lower-calorie sports drinks and low-fat hamburgers.

"I'm from the government. I'm here to help control you."

"The way to have safe government is not to trust it all to the one, but to divide it among the many, distributing to everyone exactly the functions in which he is competent....To let the National Government be entrusted with the defense of the nation, and its foreign and federal relations..... The State Governments with the Civil Rights, Laws, Police and administration of what concerns the State generally. The Counties with the local concerns, and each ward direct the interests within itself. It is by dividing and subdividing these Republics from the great national one down through all its subordinations until it ends in the administration of everyman's farm by himself, by placing under everyone what his own eye may superintend, that all will be done for the best."
Thomas Jefferson

Her Royal and Jiggly Lardass is probably involved with this. Old thunder thighs and porkypolous is continuing to tell us that our kids are fat . . . too bad they don’t have wide-enough mirrors in our White House to reflect her own back porch.

Incredible that they somehow found federal reasons to toy with school food.

When you take fat out of foods it tastes like cardboard. Natural fats are not problem - it is the sugar that is substituted, IMHO.

I think TV and video games are more of a problem. When I was a kid we were outside a LOT. We worked off calories.

Somebody posted on FR awhile back a lunch menu for Princess Bigbutts kids. It looked NOTHING like what she’s trying to feed our kids.

I wonder if it would be considered assault these days if someone parked a full fat snack truck outside of a school and sold the kids what they wanted?

Make the students run around the school a few times. Throw in some obstacles. Give lectures on prepping.

My bet is they'd be arrested for trespassing.

Years ago kids (high school) could leave the school for lunch and eat at local restaurants as long as they were back in time. It sounds like a really wild idea now.

When I was a kid we were outside a LOT. We worked off calories.

I walked almost a mile each way to school. I was still chewing the last bite of dinner when I grabbed my tennis racquet and headed to the park, tennis and basketball until dark.

Parents are afraid to let their kids out. So yes, they sit. Diet and exercise.

List of ingredients in Lay’s Original Potato Chips: potatoes, vegetable oil, salt.

List of ingredients in Lay’s Baked Potato Chips: dried potatoes, corn starch, sugar, corn oil, salt, soy lecithin, and corn sugar.

I know which ones I’d want MY kids to eat.

Regards,

We usually stayed right out front but a bunch of us played tag or badmitten in the street. We went to the local park in a group of 4 or more.

They think parents don’t read labels.

Yup, that’s what they think all right. And that list of ingredients is just for the PLAIN baked potato chips. You should see the ones for the flavored kind — it’s a chemistry set, not a potato chip!

Regards,

This isn’t about health, it’s about control and just how far they can push parents. Remember “It’s for the children”? Hillary’s big thing. Hitlers too.

Indeed. And most of my acquaintances laughed at me when I predicted this very thing about 25 years ago.

I’d be laughing at THEM now, but it’s really not funny at all.

What a great opportunity for some young entrepreneur to set up a black market distribution channel.

He will be banking the cash.

The schools confiscate contraband food. Including lunches from home.
