I don’t doubt you at all but it is better for the BSA to be morally straight and poor than to be awash in blood money. The BSA is a non-profit so preserving the organization should be a secondary concern to protecting the membership. Why this is even a dilemma for the BSA trustees makes me question the leadership.
Exactly. Which makes it so very discouraging that they're vacillating at all -- it means there's some counsel being offered, possibly by a mole, an Iscariot, that "being sensible" and putting organization considerations ahead of the Scouts' welfare is being pushed as a way to secure collapse and surrender of the board to the cultural-affinity attack that is being brought against them by people on the corporate boards.
