A 70-year-old high school basketball coach shot and killed one teenager and wounded a second as they attempted to rob him outside the school, Detroit police said.
Ernest Robinson, an assistant girls basketball coach at Martin Luther King Jr. High School, was accosted by two males Friday evening while walking two members of the girls team outside King High, said Officer Cassandra Lewis, a police spokeswoman.
They announced a robbery, a struggled ensued and he pulled a weapon and fired, said Lewis, who added that Robinson is a reserve police officer and licensed to carry a concealed pistol.

That's the only risk in robbing someone in a "gun free" zone - some animals are more equal than others.
Interesting high school name...
why do they insist on naming schools and streets Martin Luther King? sheesh...
Kids. Whatcha gonna do?
I think there were something like 5 separate defensive shootings in Detroit last week.
Another screwy headline that is confusing and makes one think that it might have been the basketball coach who was doing the robbing.
It’s to tell sane people they’re in a very bad neighborhood and to leave as quickly as possible.
Coach: “And get off my damn lawn too !!”
The media will find photos of the perps when they were six years old and publish them just to bias the public as they did with Trayvon.
Try to get all of it next time, though.
Usually they just say, “drop and give me 50!”
It won’t happen. Most defensive shootings in Detroit are black on black.
I especially liked this one despite the fact that granny could use some range time.
ha! that’s exactly what it says...
I think that’s what the late perp said.
Happens every day. What difference does it make!? I guess we’re in Never-Let-A-Crisis-Go-To-Waste mode so all “gun crimes” are highlighted in the name of the obama agenda.
“a struggled ensued...”
What is a ‘struggled’?
And now this 70 year old man will have no peace for the time he has left.
He will be hounded by the family thugs, the press, and lawyers.
I didn’t even notice that. I’ve given up on journalists as competent writers and mostly just try to figure out what facts they are trying to report.
