Fox News ^ | 2/6/13 | Shannon Bream

If the Food and Drug Administration gets its way, your trip to the grocery store could get a tad pricier. Supermarket owners argue a pending federal food-labeling rule that stems from the new health care law would overburden thousands of grocers and convenience store owners -- to the tune of $1 billion in the first year alone. (Snip) The rule stems from an ObamaCare mandate that restaurants provide nutrition information on menus. No problem. Enact a law prohibiting the cost from being passed along. Or get the news media to gang up on supermarkets who pass the cost along to the customers.

I went into the local Publix tonight and at the deli, they had an array of soups. The had labels with every ingredient for each soup. I heard Fox news say today that if they screw up, it can mean doing some jail time and/or paying fines. Guess what will be not worth having in the future?

Exactly. And when supermarkets inevitably remove the “food service” items made in store like the soup bar, salad bar, hot foods by the pound, pizzas, etc. and switch to pre-packaged items you can bet the left will be whining about the lack of fresh food.

That helps explain the curse of King Midas.

There’s not enough profit to not pass it along.

“enact a law” is NEVER the answer...at least in 99 percent of the cases.

Unless your law is aimed at curtailing the power of the government.

There it’s no way to force a gro store to not pass along prices. To do so would be the same as setting price controls. And that never, ever works.

Plus, if the prices aren’t passed along, then the voter doesn’t have an incentive to vote the bums out. The stores shouldn’t suffer b/c the PEOPLE elected morons. Let the people take the hit. And I say that as person who absolutely can’t afford any price increases.
