BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick has declared a state of emergency for blizzard that could bring near 3 feet of snow.
Patrick signed an executive order banning all vehicles from roadways starting at 4 p.m. today. Ban applies to all roadways, including highways and secondary roads. Any one caught driving after 4 p.m. faces up to one year in jail and $500 fine.

If I lived in Mass I would be raising holy blazes over his single handed declaration of martial law and the suspension of personal liberty.
The people of Mass are ruled like SERFS, or slaves... because they let themselves be ruled as such.

I worked ICU during a blizzard once.. 16 hr days, slept on site. Got pretty old after 3 days.

If "Universal" background checks (except for criminals) goes through, instead of "vehicle" enter "background checks on gun sales". Viola! Instant gun ban. Now imagine this on a "National Emergency".
That happened in California during their latest riot. "Public Safety" you know (cough).
Get after your Congressman and Senator on this point.
When is this ban supposed to be lifted?
I just got a recorded call from my son’s college telling me that Governor Patrick had done this. I laughed into the phone and yelled, “I’m in New Hampshire! Ha!!!!” Now I have to go see if our liberal governor did the same....not that I plan on going anywhere, lol.
Makes you wonder if they are “testing” to see how this works.

A year in jail sounds commensurate with the crime of driving on a snowy day! How about just tell everyone that if they go out and get stuck, no one will be sent to rescue them - at least that would encourage personal responsibility. If you are a conservative and live in Mass, what the hell is wrong with you?
What happens if you are a farmer or rancher and have to take care of animals?

Geeze, I can remember my Dad driving us from New Jersey to Ohio on the PA Turnpike in a snow storm in the wee hours of the night. Probably 6” of snow, dark, no visibility but he was motivated. The trucks had all pulled over but Dad kept going. 2 wheel drive Chevy, probably a Bel-Air or Biscayne.

Maybe memories of what happened in Dec of 2007; then, a Fri afternoon, snow on the way; order given at 1 pm to send state workers etc home. MASSIVE traffic jams.
I was supposed to be at work by 6 pm. I left here at 3 pm
to travel 18 miles.
I got to work at 6:30 pm.
18 miles.
In better weather, I could get to Burlington VT (219 miles away) in that time. Anyway, schools let out. Work let out.
Malls (it was Dec., shoppers) etc.—massive traffic jam.
People remember...
Drive in the snow...1 year in jail.

There shall be a ban on motor vehicle travel beginning at 4:00 PM today and continuing until further notice. This travel ban shall not apply to the following: public safety vehicles and public safety workers, including contract personnel, public works vehicles and public works workers, including contract personnel; government officials conducting official business, utility company vehicles and utility workers; healthcare workers who must travel to and from work in order to provide essential health services; news media, travel necessary to maintain and deliver critical private sector services such as energy, fuel supplies and delivery, financial systems and the delivery of critical commodities, travel to support business operations that provide critical services to the public, including gasoline stations, food stores and hardware stores. Given this 8th day of February in the year of our Lord two thousand and thirteen at 12:15PM.
