-snip-

"I mean, it's horrible. There's no running water. There's no power. They are having to use the restroom in buckets and bags."

"It's like a bunch of savages on there," he added. "If you get on the blogs, they're saying that people are fighting over food and stuff."

Toby Barlow told CNN that his wife, Ann, a passenger on the ship, texted that the plumbing failed and people were defecating in bags and urinating in showers.

She also told him there's "sewage running down the walls and floors," he said.

“Which, of course, are geared towards union labor and overweening government nanniness which drive up the costs “

True, and I don’t like unions any more than you do. That said, the cruise ships evidently look at cost cutting over safety. I can’t imagine one of our Navy vessels being run like most of the cruise ships today. You’ve even got Captain Mario Hotpants, scheming on a woman while his ship is sinking over in Italy.

“just ask yourself why you would ever “sail” on a ship that was registered in LIberia or
Panama? It’s to get around the cost of US crews and more importantly, US inspections.”

Hmmmm. THat sounds pretty much like the last 2 cruises I’ve taken.

Never again.

Shows just how quickly things can go to hell. Now imagine a major city after EMP attack and there has been not electricity for a month and no idea when it will be restored.

She's coming in here to Mobile.
This will be the largest cruise ship to ever enter the Mobile ship channel. The ship is 115 feet wide and the narrow part of the ship channel is 400 feet.

The shipyards here are looking forward to the work.

“Shows just how quickly things can go to hell.”

My husband’s company would send a bunch of us to a foreign country every year for two weeks. On the first trip, on the plane, I noticed a husband and wife couple that were friends of ours, did not eat the food offered by the airline. They brought bottles of water and peanut butter and crackers. I asked them why they were doing this and they said food on a plane can be tainted plus things happen to planes like being on the runway for hours, so they always had their own food and water. This made total sense to me and from then on I took water and peanut butter/cracks in a carry on bag. We did eat the food offered by the airline but we had that extra in case there was a problem with water or food before we got off that plane.

I would have done the same thing getting on a ship - take water and peanut butter/crackers. Once you turn your body over to an airline or ship, you are theirs. If the plane or ship screws up, there you are.

I will never get on another ship.

I would spazz if I saw someone vomiting, much like an arachnophobe would spazz at the sight of a spider.

I’ve been on two cruises and everything went well.

My mother and I went on a Royal Caribbean cruise back in 2004 and it was great. It was only 3 days but we had a lot of fun.

I got FRIED though. I was in a lot of pain and went into a slight shock. I was freezing when everyone else was comfortable.

I still enjoyed the trip though,LOL.

You poor thing. It’s bad enough when you’re at home, much less on a ship.

I am sure many people who have stayed at a motel 6 can say the same thing... but some of us have higher standards :)

For a true luxury experience try Royal Caribbean

In Jan 1969, wife, two babies and I scored a PCS cruise from Yokohama to SFO on the SS President Wilson. Wife and I got nauseous the first night, but after that, it was “smooth sailin’.” A USN Commander was aboard with his pregnant wife. That lady was a very miserable person, even though the seas were calm. The shipboard doctor kept her sedated and they took her off at Honolulu and hospitalized her. After we got back to HQS, they asked if we’d like to ride the SS United States from NYC TO Southampton. Back in the day, the government heavily subsidized those liners and civil service and military personnel could apply for passage. Yes, we did take the SS United States to Europe. New bride and I have taken two Carnival cruises and one Princess. We loved the Carnival cruises to the eastern and western Caribbean.

My mother and I went on a Royal Caribbean cruise back in ‘04. It was after Hurricane Ivan hit so our ship was re-routed from Fort Lauderdale to Haiti.

Haiti was beautiful but I have never seen such poverty.

Taking a shower was interesting. The ship must’ve hit one hell of a wave because I bumped into the wall of the shower. I almost lost my footing.

I could not eat dinner the first night because I was so nauseous. Everyone else was eating as if they were at their dining room table.

I still felt like I was swaying when I got home.

I live on a sailboat and I have a hard time sleeping when I spend a night ashore anymore.
