Senate Committee to Debate Hagel Nomination

WASHINGTON, DC
Tuesday, February 12, 2013

Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI), chair of the Senate Armed Services Cmte., plans to hold a vote on Defense Secretary nominee Chuck Hagel at today's hearing.

Committee Republicans have expressed concerns over the former Nebraska senator's nomination. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said he would put a hold Hagel unless the White House provides more information on the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

In addition, a group of Republican senators sent Chairman Levin a letter, demanding that Hagel turn over more information about his finances and funding he may have received from foreign powers.

Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said he will bring up the Hagel nomination for a floor vote on Wednesday if the committee approves the nominee.

How can they have a hearing if one Senator (Linda Gramnesty) has put a “put” on the nominee?

I believe there are 14 Democrats and 12 Republicans on the committee. I expect that will be the actual vote, 14 to 12 to send the nomination to the floor for a full Senate vote.
