What does DHS need with 2,700 armored vehicles? (and why have they bought a billion bullets?)

More to the point; why isn't anyone in Congress asking?

You see a story like this - and the one about a billion bullets bought by the government - and you wonder why no one in Congress has bothered to look into it. I am totally unconvinced there are any dark designs by DHS on American citizens or our democracy. But this seems a colossal waste of money - if true - and isn't ferreting out waste like this what we are paying those jamokes on Capitol Hill for?

Jim Hoft writes:

Modern Survival Blog reported:

The Department of Homeland Security (through the U.S. Army Forces Command) recently retrofitted 2,717 of these 'Mine Resistant Protected' vehicles for service on the streets of the United States.

Although I've seen and read several online blurbs about this vehicle of late, I decided to dig slightly deeper and discover more about the vehicle itself.

The new DHS sanctioned 'Street Sweeper' (my own slang due to the gun ports) is built by Navistar Defense (NavistarDefense.com), a division within the Navistar organization. Under the Navistar umbrella are several other companies including International Trucks, IC Bus (they make school buses), Monaco RV (recreational vehicles), WorkHorse (they make chassis), MaxxForce (diesel engines), and Navistar Financial (the money arm of the company).

Go to your U.S. senators and congressman’s website and fire off an email asking why this is happening. I did. Haven’t heard back yet.

also, why are they doing it at exactly the same time Napolitano is out there lying about how the sequester is going to double air travel delays, and TSA agents are going to get laid off,,yadda yadda.

This may be something no more sinister than good old fashioned crony capitalism. DHS is not the Army and if they attempted to occupy someplace, Houston, for example, can you imagine what would happen to them? Don’t assume bad intentions when simple payola may be the answer.

Over a billion rounds of ammunition purchased by DHS. Now, 2,700 MRAP's also? And this idiot is not convinced these people do not have any dark designs against Americans?

IF they had only purchased the ammunition, one might make the case that the feds were only out to make sure there was little ammo available for private purchase, and this was done by design to "avoid" another school shooting. But, what would the DHS need with 2,700 MRAP's? They have one intended purpose, and I doubt that DHS purchased them to keep them from civilian hands. This writer has buried his head in the sand if he thinks that the DHS has our best interests in mind.

Same tactics that have proven ineffective in Iraq.

This is to overwhelm the civilian population. Nothing else.

Who knows better than The DHS how many terrorists are streaming into our country across our porous borders.

HA! Yeah. Right. Like they're going to use these things against terrorists.

It seems to me this vehicle would be most useful in a city.

They just re-define “terrorist” as “anyone that opposes collectivist rule” and there ya go.

These will be used against people defending their lives, families, and property against the EBT rioters.

Statement: "What does DHS need with 2,700 armored vehicles? (and why have they bought a billion bullets?)"

Response: The answer is obvious.

Comment: The vermin holding positions of governmental authority know a Social War will break out at any time.

Ah, the old "It can't happen here" canard. That kind of thinking guarantees that it will happen here. Anyone with a lick of common sense knows why the DHS is buying all those tanks and it has nothing to do with money. You think these people care about money? They already have all the money.

Any one that attacks one of those tanks will be declared a terrorist, hunted down by the NSA/FBI/CIA and killed with a drone or "disappeared" under the NDAA.

I think they are remembering back to the Branch Dividians in Waco.

The Clintons had to pay Westley Clark a big price to avoid Posse Comitatus for the armored vehicles to destroy the compound.
