Skip to comments.Dozens of big U.S. companies to back gay marriage
Posted on 03/05/2013 4:54:36 PM PST by Lurking Libertarian
On Thursday, dozens of American corporations, including Apple, Alcoa, Facebook, eBay, Intel, and Morgan Stanley will submit an amicus brief in the landmark Hollingsworth v. Perry case broadly arguing to the U.S. Supreme Court that laws banning same-sex marriages, like California's ballot initiative Proposition 8, are unconstitutional under the Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses. According to a draft copy obtained by Fortune, the companies argue that such laws "send an unmistakeable signal that same-sex couples are in some way inferior to opposite-sex couples, a proposition that is anathema to amici's commitment to equality and fair treatment to all." At least 60 companies had committed to signing the brief as of Tuesday evening, according to Joshua Rosenkranz, who is counsel of record on the brief and head of the Supreme Court and appellate litigation practice at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe. That number is expected to rise by Thursday, however, according to Rosenkranz. Others who have already committed to sign include AIG, Becton Dickinson, Cisco, Cummins, Kimpton, Levi Strauss, McGraw Hill, NCR, Nike, Office Depot, Oracle, Panasonic, Qualcomm, and Xerox. (Update: Verizon and Cablevision have now joined.)

I’ve always looked at such matters this way. What big business wants, big business gets. If they figure there’s money to be made, or money to be saved to increase their profitability, they’ll support it.
If big business, let’s say a good-sized chunk of the Fortune 500 companies, come to the conclusion that same-sex marriage is good for business, well, that’s that.
I predict that SCOTUS will make SSM the law of the land by 2015 at the latest. Who knows, maybe even this year.
Big business also wants socialized medicine....they would love for the government to take worrying about insuring their employees off of their hands.
What's different about you and me and say 25% of other people for whom it's blindingly obvious?
Is the Holy Spirit helping us TO SEE?
Marriage is a religious institution and did not orginated by the government. The first recorded marriage was in the bible. Gay don’t want civil unions or legal rights to protect themselves, that would be easy to do. They hate that all major religions (God) say homosexuality is wrong and harmful. They want to force Christians to not just accept their behavior, but say that God is wrong. They want to force their beliefs on everyone and especially children. Mark my words pastors, priest, rabbis will be sued or worse, florist, bakeries, photographers.....if they don’t “validate” there lifestyle by working the wedding. Today it’s gay marriage tomorrow ??? I’d question why so many people are trying to lower the age of consent for children. Parents today who think they are being fair may one day understand its not about equality. It’s about rejecting God.
I’m quite sure that a good many companies in the Fortune 500 would quite cheerfully let the Feds take over healthcare completely. Well, not the health insurance companies, of course....they’d lose it all.
But the rest of them, sure. Think of all the money they could save if they realized they no longer had to provide health insurance for their employees and employees families. Billions, all nicely added to the bottom line.
Can I send the Supreme Court my briefs? Skidmarks and all.
I for one would like to commend Apple, Alcoa, Facebook, eBay, Intel, Morgan Stanley and anyone else who would come forward in support of "gay marriage."
I would much rather have these companies come out of the closet --- so to speak --- so that I know who to stop buying goods and services from and direct my dollars towards companies that support my values.
So Intel, my next computer will have an AMD Processor in it. eBay, well I stopped buying anything off eBay several years ago. Facebook can always KMA and fortunately for me, I closed any Morgan Stanley investment accounts I had long ago, 1999 IIRC.
As for Apple, well let's just say my last iPad purchase (last year) was my LAST purchase from Apple.
I like to call it "Informed Capitalism." And that's as it should be. Let's have all these homosexual, sodomy loving companies come out of the closet so we know who they are and stop supporting them. It's that simple.
And trust me on this: Average, every day Americans DO pay attention to the companies that work against their own personal interests and do NOT buy from them. That again, is as it should be.
Do you think He will? Prepare yourself and your loved ones. If His wrath isn’t poured out on America and the world nations that support this crap, He owes Sodom & Gomorrah an apology.
Impossible? No, it's not impossible. Alot of work to either (a)find alternatives to those companies or (b)decide to do without. But not "impossible."
Agree with you on the 'disheartening' part. It does seem as if good old-fashioned common sense Conservative values are under assault from literally every angle these days.
Here's the thing though: We're on the right side, both politically and morally. Sometimes that's not easy.
Keep the faith.
AMD is considered reasonably LGBT friendly.
Not as friendly as Apple, mind you, but they’re above 50% on the Human Rights Campaign’s list of companies. They score 5% higher than Wal-Mart.
I intend to boycott each of these companies. However, I will have to look into what sort of penalty I will need to pay to get out of my Verizon cell phone contract early. At the very lease I will not engage in new business or extend existing business with any company which decides to support this cultural decay.
“I wish it were different but go up to anyone in the mall and ask if they care.”
That’s a simplistic generalization. Go up to anyone in the patriot blue states and ask if they care.
Well just damn' it. Guess I'll figure out how to make this 7+ year old computer of mine last awhile longer then.
BTW: Not sure what "LGBT friendly" means. It's one thing to treat everyone the same, which I'm all for.
It's another thing (and completely unacceptable IMO) to treat one group of individuals differently (as in better) or go out of one's way to voice support for it/them/cause.
Which is AMD in your opinion?
Those who support same sex marriage are placing perversion above protecting the health and safety of their customers, by supporting risky and unnatural behavior.
Men and women are NOT interchangeable. The basis of the equal protection clause, is that men and women are interchangeable at will. However, this is not so, natural law prevails. The misguided companies are supporting a popular culture that is transient and suicidal.
Have these corporations considered facts such as: persons with homosexuality are significantly more likely to have psychological disorders, substance abuse problems, suicidal ideation, and to have been victims of childhood sexual abuse and violence. The relationships of men attracted to men are more likely to be short-lived and are almost never faithful over time. The HIV/AIDS epidemic among men who have sex with men continues unabated and has been linked to substance abuse and sexual addiction. Men who have sex with men are also 44 times more likely to be HIV positive, and far more likely to be inflected with other sexually transmitted diseases.
Do these corrupt companies support perversion within? Why are they compromising the mental and physical health of their employees and the people they serve, for a transient popular culture?
First, you seem to be confused about red vs. blue states. The red ones are the conservative ones.
Secondly, young people — even in red states — tend not to see this as an issue, other than “fairness” and “equality”.
Yes, there are exceptions like those in my own family.
I heard on the news today that Penny’s CEO had stated he learned the American people do not want low prices, they want sales.
“First, you seem to be confused about red vs. blue states. The red ones are the conservative ones.”
No, i’m not confused. You accepted the commies designating patriot states as red. Patriots are American blue. Commies are Marxist reds. Got it?
We can’t allow the commies to define the conservatives and who we are or what color we represent. Americans are patriot blue and commies are devil red.
That’s the old way but as you know maps are keyed the opposite now.
Have a good evening,
Homosexual marriage is an oxymoron. It does not exist. To call that living arrangement marriage is to destroy the meaning of the word.
God help our country, indeed.
Reminds me of this, Phillipians 3:19, from my Lenten readings: “their god is their belly and they glory in their shame.”
Damnation to each of those companies.
“You accepted the commies designating patriot states as red. Patriots are American blue.
Commies are Marxist reds. Got it?
We cant allow the commies to define the conservatives and who we are or what color we represent. Americans are
patriot blue and commies are devil red.”
And the Federalist Society should really be called the “Anti-Federalist Society”. But things are as they are, and you’re spitting into the wind, my FRiend.
“Dozens of big U.S. companies to back gay marriage”
I guess they all want to share the business success from such policies that J.C. Penney is currently enjoying .
“And the Federalist Society should really be called the Anti-Federalist Society. But things are as they are, and youre spitting into the wind, my FRiend.”
I’m making a stand. Want to join me?
Next on the agenda is bisexual rights... why can’t a bisexual man or woman be allowed to marry both a man and a woman.
Than transgenders will demand their “rights”..
And than the bigamists....and the pedophiles....and than the bestialists and necrophiliacs...
They cant help it...they were born that way!
This is NOT RIGHT. It’s impossible to even BOYCOTT all of these - there’s too many and they’re too big. And you know what that means? It means we no longer have a free market. Companies have reached a size where we have NO CHOICE but to give them our money, even if we hate them. And that is NOT RIGHT, and it’s NOT CAPITALISM.
I believe a competent lawyer can argue/make the case that ‘fair and equal treatment’ does not/is not a guarantee that any persons can set up their own social/ethical mores that disturb/violate the lawfully adopted mores of the general public. I think about actions such as bigamy that are still unlawful. That all these money making corporations would cater to a specific group of persons to undue the expressed desire of most people of a state goes to show how and why the USA is in ethical difficulties from Obama and Roberts and Congress on down. I believe Sodom and Gamora were real situations in history.
An awful lot of them are showing up in commercials these days. Blech!!!
Well, the minute it was announced that the degenerate one would be JCP's national spokesman, I knew it would hit sales. The very minute. There are millions of conservative of my thinking, not a small percentage.
And he was sure in a hurry to pay off DeGenerate and get her out of the picture. Too late.
And why hasn't DeGenerate complained that she is nowhere in the picture? Surely she was discriminated against.
Corporatism is more profitable with disposable worker-bees.
Only the Royal Elites should be allowed the luxury of raising heirs.
>>how can ANYONE argue against polygamy
If there’s an argument to be made against it, I expect it might be found in an historical analysis and comparison of the socio-biological fitness of tribal harems Vs cultures composed of monogamous families.
Which reproductive strategy yields greater long-term fitness?
It’s self-evidently a manifestation of the nexus between Transhumanist-Postgenderist and elitist Fabian Socialist doctrine.
Observe that these present day abominations are emerging the same inbred elite social circles that brought folks Eugenics a century ago... for our “improvement”, of course.
>>It’s all about money:
What was it all about 100 years ago — when the Fabian Socialist elitist bee keeper Eugenicists “improved” things back then?
Same Ol’ crap, new and improved collectivist toilet.
You obviously need another round of desensitization.
Back in to Room 101 you go!
>>What big business wants, big business gets.
“COMMERCE BETWEEN MASTER AND SLAVE IS DESPOTISM”
What does this mean?
>>Big business also wants socialized medicine...
Corporate Fascism thrives best when disposable worker-bees are obediently docile and self-medicating.
Is W’s pharmaceutical entitlement plan bearing fruit from the lobotomized proletariat yet?

We have decades worth of social science proving the Ten Commandments and Bible correct. What do lieberals have?
Uh-mee-cus or am-uh-cus?
Good for them. Let them deal with it in their state. In the meantime, SCOTUS needs to remand this issue back to the states where it belongs.
That was my reaction to the degenerate one spokesperson. I can’t boycott everyone, but there are some I certainly can avoid. The interesting thing though, is, those I am aware of personally have other issues as well. I grew up being a Penny’s shopper, but left them several years ago when they went around the back sneaky door to close their store in my town. Added to their drastic drop in quality

The push for homo-marriage/same sex marriage is ramping up like a tsunami as it approaches the shallow water near the shore. And, like a tsunami, terrible damage is all that will result.
Anyone wanting on/off either ping list, freepmail me.
