Robert Dallek (the author, who seems more sympathetic to the Dr. Who Daleks than to America’s Founding Fathers) wants to frame gun ownership as an irrational response to fear. Any sane person reading his diatribe advocating for a new Joseph Goebbels to shape public opinions and convince us that government is our best friend and worthy of a monopoly on power would be even more fearful than before. I’m going online to buy another gun in response to my fear of people like him.
What would 'Davros' here say is a rational response to fear?
I say, courage.
Which is defined not as the absence of fear but proceeding towards danger in spite of fear. So...being all courageous and all rational-like, would a person possessing these qualities make one more small rational decision and take a firearm with them? I think so.
I think that pretty well deflates this asshat's argument.
