One in three U.S. counties is dying off
The Daily Mail ^ | 13 March 2013

A record number of U.S. counties - more than 1 in 3 - are now dying off, hit by an aging population and weakened local economies that are spurring young adults to seek jobs and build families elsewhere.

New 2012 census estimates released Thursday highlight the population shifts as the U.S. encounters its most sluggish growth levels since the Great Depression.

The findings also reflect the increasing economic importance of foreign-born residents as the U.S. ponders an overhaul of a major 1965 federal immigration law. Without new immigrants, many metropolitan areas such as New York, Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh and St. Louis would have posted flat or negative population growth in the last year.

Some of these are probably good places for retires to buy real estate and live save lives in pleasant surroundings. I just wish I knew which ones they are.

not my county, all run by republicans, republican out number Dems and no party combined and thousands left over and if anyone wants to come here then move.

We are not in debt, we are still hiring, we voted to reduce property taxes recently and it;s a very safe place where everyone speaks English

Oh and for those who like hunting, golf and fishing then we have all that and we;re not a small county like most

The county is St Johns county where St Augustine is the place where the Christian prayer was said in N America and we are one of the msot conservative counties in FL

CONSERVATIVES ARE ALWAYS WELCOMED HERE, JUST DRIVE NICE

It’s a good thing we don’t have any counties here in Louisiana! ;-)

Figure the infrastructure is already built (roads, water...) but being used a less-than-peak capacity. Economy tends to suck, but if you’re retired or have your own business/telecommute it can be ok. Sidewalks tend to roll up at 6 pm though...

BO wants all his subjects to live in areas like Chicago.

He can control public housing.

It is all Control. Mind, body and Soul.

We have to use illegal immigrants to replace the 50 million or so babies that have been aborted since 1973 or before. The abortion industry has surpassed hitler and stalin, and possibly mao for the record for mass homocide. And here people are worried about the feds taking away our guns. They don’t have to, because they can kill people with impunity before they are even born. Something to think about.

Several years ago I read of the graduating class from the most Western county in the panhandle of Oklahoma.

Most of the students were preparing to head for Ft Worth/Dallas.

Who cares if Pittsburgh has flat growth. No good jobs here for the average person. Kids just out of high school work in the service industry, live together without marriage, and apply for food stamps and as many freebies they can get.

UN Agenda 21 will be much easier to implement if we can destroy the economy.

Check out Pima County in AZ to see what a dying county in a Red State looks like. It is a blue blight on a wonderful, prosperous state.

isn;t it great to live here.
When we saw obama steal this state my wife and I was so happy to be totally surrounded by conservatives and republicans or even people who just can;t stand obama now

I live just north of the airport but south near Palencia.

LOVE IT HERE JUST LOVE IT.
Fire in our back garden, no traffic jams though I don;t like going into St Augsutine a certain times because of tourists, hunting though I don;t, fishing I do.
I have a paint horse but more importantly we are one of the most republican areas in the state]

Like you said, just keep the socialists away and keep the loons away.

We moved here some times ago and we searched the census etc for the right place and we found it.
Hardly any crime, near a big city, close to the beach if you like that srt of thing

How long have you lived there for if you do not mind me asking?

I’m just looking for land right now for my horse and maybe when the kdis get older I can have a log cabin .
Was looking at just west of you towards Oulstee

I been living here permanently since 1995. But my family was moving back and forth from Jacksonville to whatever army base my dad was stationed from 1978-1995. My family on both side moved here from Georgia in the mid 1950’s.

So, my Family have a long, long history of living in this region of the country.

I can attest to this. I went to a concert in 2010 on July 5th at the wonderful Amphitheater there. It took place around 5:00 in the afternoon. Old Crow Medicine Show performed, and the audience was mostly young people, all nicely attired, and many of the young ladies wore dresses. I felt there was hope for America.

“Check out Pima County in AZ to see what a dying county in a Red State looks like.” I could not agree with you more. We've been residents here since 2004 having escaped from Commiefornia. $230 million wasted on a project called Rio Nuevo. Streets are in severe disrepair. The city council and mayors office is a liberal joke addressing the ‘feel good’, ‘warm and fuzzy’ concerns of liberals everywhere while the city collapses. We, as conservatives, have no representation here and although we live on the far east side away from the madness of the central district, it is as if we live in a Far Side cartoon. Bizarro World has a leg up on this place. At least my fields of fire have been cleared.
