Natural Conservatives? Really?
Center for Imm Studies ^ | March 11, 2013 | James R. Edwards Jr

Posted on 03/18/2013 12:32:39 PM PDT by AuntB

Ever heard the claim that Latinos are "natural conservatives"? The person repeating the conventional wisdom of the Beltway apparently hasn't examined the evidence.

That's why, for Republicans, to buy that canard spells disaster. The most recent evidence comes from a new Latino Decisions poll. It shows two-thirds of Latinos support "comprehensive immigration reform" that includes special immigration privileges for foreign-born gays and lesbians.

Of those Hispanic respondents who favored giving homosexual couples the same immigration rights as traditional couples, 92 percent view it as important (very or somewhat) to make the change part of any amnesty bill in Congress.

While the Christian community has taken a stand to preserve the institution of marriage, Latinos who report being Christians don't agree with the traditional biblical view on marriage. Some 71 percent of Catholic Latinos and 53 percent of Hispanics claiming to be "born-again Christians" support gay spousal amnesty and visas, according to the poll.

The foreign-born Latinos were even more supportive of this position — 65 percent vs. 63 percent of native-born Hispanics.

Other surveys have found Latinos significantly more likely than the native-born to have single-mother households, use welfare, prefer bigger government that provides more services, and view free enterprise negatively. That doesn't sound exactly like a "movement conservative".

For liberal critics of amnesty and mass immigration this may not matter. But the Republican Party would wake up after an amnesty fling with open-borders special interests of all stripes to find they'd left them in the morning. The only thing to show for selling out their party's base is an even bigger Democratic electorate.

Are you referring to post 6? If so the poll clearly says it was taken of Mexicans. Clear enough to me.

First you tell us that the latinos agree with us about illegals then you call us racists for what we said.

I didn't call you racists. Notice the placement of the word "if" at the beginning of the quote you used.

Some other people on this thread, such as cradle of liberty are saying what needs to be said. We need to change our approach to the Latino vote. We can't continue to allow Spanish-speaking Democratic Party operatives to continue lying to them, unchallenged. If we do, the Republican Party is done.

*Poll: Mexicans say Mexican-Americans Owe Loyalty to Mexico Over U.S.
Thu Oct 15 11:51:17 2009 ·

(CNSNews.com) - Nearly 70 percent of Mexicans surveyed said that Mexican-Americans – including those born in the United States – owe their primary loyalty to Mexico, not the U.S.

bryan...The only ‘impression’ I would want to make is that poll was taken in Mexico! THEY are the ones coming, they won’t be loyal! THAT is the point, you little sissy! And when something refers to MEXICANS, THAT means MEXICO! IT sure as hell doesn’t mean AMERICANS!

You don’t know me, you don’t want to know me...I’m one of those knuckledragging westerners who stands up against loud mouthed know it alls like you!

I’m REAL sorry, that YOU and ONLY YOU in 4 years couldn’t figure out the poll was taken in MEXICO!
BLOOD IS ON YOUR hands, not mine! I wanted this stopped decades ago, before blood was shed, before it was OUT OF HAND, but twisted brains like yours prevailed. Show us what you EVER did to stop this out of control pandering and invasion...YES, I SAID INVASION...of socialist DEMOCRAT VOTERS...we have to assume that is what you want!

And YOU have a law degree?? God help us.

RE :”But the ones who have their entire families here are very much opposed to amnesty. And if we can just get the illegal Latinos out of the country, and prevent them from voting illegally, you will all see a substantial change in the way the rest of them vote, and respond to polls.”

If legal Hispanics were opposed to illegal immigration you wouldn’t see both parties climbing all over themselves to make illegals voting citizens.
Hell, if Hispanics were not demanding amnesty then the bad rhetoric on Hispanics could just be lowered by stopping talking about amnesty. No, they are demanding it and the GOP has done nothing to convince them otherwise.

Hispanics are pretty much 70 to 80% in favor of Obama’s initiatives. The same way they voted last election. Its not just economic issues which I would understand but its social issues too.

You are defying reality by claiming the contrary.

RE :”If we turn our backs on legal Latinos, and drive them away with harsh, racist rhetoric, we are finished as a political party.”

I agree with you there are have posted that before.
Last year Republicans did great helping motivating the Dem base Hispanics to get out and vote, like hitting a growing bee’s nest with a bat.

At this stage the best they can do is try to convince Hispanics that Obama is lying to them so they don't vote. Citizenship for illegals as the GOP working for is a great way to give Dems the endless majority.

I know a lot of Latinos. The ones who are here legally. The ones who were born here. The ones who can vote legally. You know, there are Latino families in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas and New Mexico who have been living here for 200-300 years.
....
Yes, some legal Latinos have family members who are illegal or still living in Mexico, and they want to reunite their families here where the money is. Where the good life is. Who can blame them?

___________________________________________

so which is it ???

are they Latinos from Latinoland or are they Americans ???

You know the relatives of illegal aliens and those still living in Mexico...

Since you seem to insist those relatives are the descendants of wetbacks who came to the US 20-300 years ago, the illegal aliens cannot be close family members after all...

The immediate family members for the last few generations would be American citizens...

unless your nice “Americans” arent that careful about who they marry or mate with...

My family go back nearly 400 years in the US...

but I never did manage to have any illegal alien close family members...

Gee I wonder what Im doing wrong ???

I noticced you did admit they are here for greed for the money and not because they love America...

I can blame them...its easy...

Why dont they stay in mexico where the livin is just as easy and good...

Why not ???

Because Mexico wont put up with their junk...wont give them handouts and excuse their crimes...

these are criminals ...

and since you seem to love your illegal aliens so much, adopt a couple and take them home and support them yourself...

let them drive your best car and sleep in your bed...

get and extra job and feed them all...

if you adiopt a mixed couple of pet illegal aliens in about 3 years they will have increased by about 4 more...

have lotsa fun Gringo...

I missed this part until I read TN’s response to you.

The problem is that these recent(illegal) immigrants and their kids are drawing a disproportionate amount of $$$ for anti-poverty programs. And as soon as they vote its a disaster. In fact the same is true for poor LEGAL immigrant families.

This is now a question of survival. Legalizing them and especially giving them the vote is disastrous.
We don't need more poor hungry sad looking families formed by illegals to get on camera in more leftist documentaries showing how mean the rich (us with jobs) are to poor Hispanic children in America, just sitting by letting them suffer,. We got plenty of them already.

Just in!! FROM the USA...Nana, ya better put on a disclaimer WHERE an article comes from! Don’t want to be deceptive! We, old gals need to heed Bryan’s edict: “ “Try to remember next time. I realize you’re getting old, but the Alzheimer’s hasn’t taken over yet, has it? “”

http://www.kgun9.com/features/immigrationwatch/198880001.html?lc=Smart

‘They are facing a danger’: Sheriff says Arizonans not safe after detainee release
FLORENCE, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - An Arizona sheriff says there’s a clear safety concern for people in the state. The federal agency in charge says that’s not the case. KGUN9 News looks at the concerns and possible risks of the feds’ decision to release illegal immigrants.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement made that decision last month ahead of sequester budget cuts. Now, ICE reveals a number of those 2,228 people are convicted criminals.

Of the 342 released in Arizona, according to the agency, 220 had no convictions. Ninety one of them had been convicted of a misdemeanor or similar offense. Thirty had been convicted of a felony or similar offense. One committed a crime or crimes considered the most serious.

An agency spokeswoman told KGUN9 she had no information on the specific crimes committed.

Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said “whistleblowers” have given him those details.

“We have direct information from ICE — federal agents here in Pinal County — that those who were released had convictions — not just charges,” the Republican said. “(They had) convictions for weapons violations, for narcotics trafficking, for drug smuggling. (They’re) members of the cartels.”

Babeu argued the mass release, most of which happened in his county, puts people in danger.

“Those are not low-risk, nonviolent offenders,” he added. “These are very serious criminals.”

Babeu explained the public safety concern is if the convicts would reoffend after release.

“I believe that they are facing a danger,” he said, referring to people in his county. [SNIP]

DID YA SEE THAT!!! I SAID SNIP..snip...snip...snip....!!!!!
Didn’t give ya ALL the story, not trying to deceive!!!!!!

You do know that 200-300 years ago, the Rio Grande Valley wasn't even part of the United States, did you? So they didn't come to the United States. The United States came to them, and "wetback" is a racist term.

Why dont they stay in mexico where the livin is just as easy and good... Why not ???

Because it isn't. Employment, working class wages, and crime rates make living in Mexico very unattractive.

these are criminals ...

I agree, a lot of them are criminals and we need to send the criminals back where they came from.

and since you seem to love your illegal aliens so much ...

Perhaps you misunderstood me. I want them deported. For very, very few of them -- the ones who have been here ten years or more, haven't been arrested for anything (except immigration violations), and have been working, we might consider giving them a path to citizenship. But that's less than 10% of them. If they've been here collecting welfare, cranking out babies so that they can get more welfare, dealing drugs, burglarizing houses and/or turning tricks, they can go back wherever they came from -- perhaps with a nice prison sentence at San Quentin first, if they've earned one.

There are significant problems with polling these days that make all of them inaccurate to a substantial degree ~ and I don't mean a 1 or 2 percent difference ~morelike a 2/3 difference ~ between what the poll says and reality.

BTW, most folks from ElSalvador don't believe in marriage. Never did. Costs too much. They all live in poverty there. Much of Latin America is like that.

Just because they haven't been convicted of a crime (besides immigration) and they work doesn't mean it will be good for this country for them to vote.

Don't we have enough Americans with their hands out?

No solution is perfect. If they're working, that means they probably "get it." Even Romney got 27% of the Latino vote. What makes you think all Latinos are going to have their hands out, demanding stuff from us?

It appears to me that of the legal Latinos, as well as the illegals who are actually emulating the legal Latinos by getting jobs, obeying the law and trying to assimilate, we already have a lock on about 25% of them. Democrats also have a lock on about 25% of them. The other 50% are up for grabs.

We have to treat them fairly, and we have to make sure they KNOW we're going to treat them fairly. We also have to make sure they KNOW that the Democrats have been lying to them, and bankrupting the country; and that the Republican way creates jobs for everybody.

If we can do that, and if we can deport the criminals who have been preying on the legal Latino community, we'll get 50% of the Latino vote very easily. Probably more. And that would mean the exact opposite of what I've been warning about: rather than the Republican Party being finished, it would be the Democratic Party that's finished. Rather than Bush being the last Republican president of our lifetimes, Obama could be the last Democratic president of our lifetimes.

All we have to do is start communicating to the legal Latino population in their language, countering the lies of Democratic Party operatives with the truth, and effectively removing the predatory illegal immigrants from their communities with prison sentences and deportations.

Explain why the term wetback is racist?

It means someone wet from swimming the Rio Grande

Why is that racist?

Demeaning. Yes.

Is it racist to demean people who broke our laws to get here?
Thanks to sensitive folks we now call them undocumented workers or residents

Isn’t that ridiculous?

Like calling terrorism man made disasters or Islam a religion of peace

What is your definition of racism?

Ethnic nationalism?

Is that the new threshold...

I grew up back when we had real racism....racial supremacists...

Now all i see is black and latino reverse racism and white inferiority complexes

That does not make me happy....does it you?

I hate to ask but how old are you and where do you live?

I am 55...southerner obviously...
Peckerwood Christian....admittedly

But i spent two decades mostly in latin America and was married to one and. Involved with many

I loved many....i adore Colombia

But i don’t want it replicated here...nor Mexico or Brasil

You know they use the term”mojado” themselves

Does calling folks out as racist give meaning to your life or a sense of superiority

I have never understood the urge but.....no offense..
.yankees and under 45 types just seem to swoon at a chance to call folks bigot

We southerners are so sick of hearing it directed at us from the preening class while our cities turn into Mogadishu that we would usually prefer death by a thousand cuts than have any satisfaction from ferreting out racism

When in reality white America except for a few of us has surrendered

Much less indulge in true National Alliance style racism

Those who fail to grasp culture seem most prone

Aren’t you a lawyer...i took the LSAT last century sometime

Accepted to Travis McGees under grad alma mater...713...1979 scoring system

Went to Bogota instead chasing a lovely from Santander

What a decidedly non anglocentric thing to do

When i came back to US fulltime in 1995

It was hard to swallow how stupid and weak so many had become

But that was only the beginning

I agree that using the term "undocumented worker" is a pathetic attempt to pander to them. I have consistently used the term "illegal immigrant," as you can see from this thread. You agree that the term "wetback" is demeaning, but it also gives Democratic Party operatives free ammunition. They can link to this page, to Tennessee Nana's remarks, and tell Latino voters that Republicans are racists.

Speaking in a more sensitive way when we are discussing Latinos and their issues costs us absolutely nothing. And it takes all that free ammunition out of the hands of those Democratic Party operatives.

I hate to ask but how old are you and where do you live?

I spent the first 20 very formative years of my life in Eureka, Illinois. It's the college home of Ronald Reagan. The whole county, and a region of several counties to the north where we went to church and have our extended family, is roughly 70% Reagan Republican. That's who I am.

And yes, we had real racists. When I was a kid, over in Pekin the Ku Klux Klan still had an active chapter. The high school team there was the Pekin Chinks. Now they're called the Pekin Dragons. Go figure.

I spent a few years in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Like you, I got "involved with many"; but I never married until long after I came back to the Midwest. There are reasons why so many American cities have names like El Paso, Las Cruces, Santa Fe, San Antonio, San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco. It's because Latinos were living there, working and owning the land and fearing God, for centuries before Americans came along.

Currently living in DuPage County, Illinois. Yeah, it's a suburb of Chicago. Jim Davis of the Daily Caller wrote that in DuPage County, we're far enough out that we can avoid getting sucked into the cesspool of corruption that is Chicago, but we're close enough that we can smell the stench. And our congressman is Pete Roskam, another Reagan Republican.

What is it you have a problem with in the survey? CIS didn’t take the poll!

That much is correct. CIS didn't take the poll; they're just spin-doctoring the results to make left-wingers feel comfortable, and make conservatives believe that there is no hope. The poll was actually taken by an organization named Latino Decisions.

Latino Decisions was founded, and is being run by a couple of left-wing La Raza type university professors, named Matt A. Barreto and Gary M. Segura. Barreto just finished writing a book called "Change They Can't Believe In: the Tea Party and Reactionary Politics in America." His bio page at the University of Washington reveals that he "has been invited multiple times to the White House to brief senior staff on Latino policy attitudes" since the Obama crime family moved in.

Gary M. Segura is the chairman of the Chicano Studies Department at Stanford University, in the San Francisco area. Read some of the garbage they write that isn't being constrained by an effort to seem non-partisan, and you'll realize that these are exactly the kind of people who make a living creating push polls for the Democratic Party.

... THEY are the ones coming, they won’t be loyal! THAT is the point, you little sissy!

Like so many people who are insensitive about race and damn proud of it, you assume that everybody who can trace family roots to Mexico in any way thinks and believes in exactly the same way. Mexicans are no more united in their thoughts and beliefs than white Americans.

The families who come here legally, or have been here for two or three generations (or even 10 or 12 generations) are generally God-fearing Republicans who are damn proud to be Americans, and generally their loyalty is to America.

Of course there are exceptions. Some of their kids go to the university, and get their skulls pumped full of BS by a bunch of left-wing ideologues. But that happens to a lot of white kids from Republican families too.

Then there are the La Raza types who are demanding that the southwestern United States must "reunite" with Mexico. That's one of those cases where they should be careful what they wish for. Just like white people, it's the left-wing partisans in the Latino communities who are the loudmouths, and it creates a lot of misconceptions. The left-wing La Raza types are generally recent immigrants, many of them illegal immigrants; and many of them involved in various illegal activities.

The legal Latinos who are so loyal to the Republican Party that they even voted for Mitt Romney would be a whole lot better off without the La Raza types. And they're very well aware of that fact.

In that fantasy world Obama never got elected.
Plenty of people ‘work’ and vote Dem. Most people who voted for Obama had jobs.

What Hispanics ‘get’ is that Republicans offer tax cuts for (white) billionaires and Democrats offer THEM all sorts of $$$$ programs to help their poor kids, free school breakfasts, lunches, after school programs, food stamps. Obama-care/medicaid, tax credits, preschoool head start, minimum wage increaeses, ....its endless

They also ‘get’ that their relatives in Medico are not going to get those same bennes there, and 'they get' that Dems here tell them that they can just vote themselves a better life. They 'get' that Obama cares for them and their families because he offers $$$$

When the majority of Hispanics turn against gub redistribution then I will consider 'pathway'
