Magpul Industries, an Erie, Colorado, based manufacturer of firearms accessories, is moving out of the state following the passage of new gun-control laws - and taking hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars of commerce with it.
Magpul's Chief Operating Office, Doug Smith told the Denver Post:
"Our moving efforts are underway. It's going to be a phased approach, and until the move is complete, we're going to continue manufacturing magazines in Colorado.
"Within the next 30-days we will manufacture our first magazine outside the state of Colorado."
Colorado Governor, John Hickenlooper signed three new gun bills into law today which requires background checks for private and online gun sales and bans magazines that hold more than 15 rounds.
Many of the magazines that Magpul produces, most notably the 30-round PMAG, are now banned in the state.
Mr. Smith says he will be meeting with economic developers from Nebraska, Texas and Wyoming and that Magpul will likely have multiple locations in the future.
"This ordeal has taught us to be more diverse geographically," Smith said.
Magpul has stated that the move will cost the state hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars.
Maybe President You Didn’t Build That will so-called “invest” some feral government billions in Colorado in green fantasy companies to make up the difference.
Will definitely support this company.
Hopefully those remaining in Colorado will remember this when they vote again and all gun owners will mount a legal challenge to the bill.
And the Democrats and Liberals will say “Good riddance” not realizing the economic impact to the state and the lost jobs and the lost tax revenue.
Looks like Governor Hickenlooper and Mayor Bloomberg ought to live in the same state...in the 1960s old time Coloradoans pioneers/settlers were dying out and young hippies were taking up the slack...some became capitalists but many kept their radical beliefs and eventually became teachers and progessors in the Colorado school system, others became lawyers and began to practice Social Justice...only in a space of 40 some odd years has it taken a fine state like Colorado to become Socialist.
“gun control” is a religion with these liberals. Along with killing unborn babies.
And the damnedest thing is...imagine what it will look like a year from now...
Oh liberals don’t care...they’re busy spending their EBT’s.
my understanding is they WILL be banned in the state on 01JUL13
They’ll just raise the “sin” taxes, AGAIN.
This will provide the catalyst necessary to wipe this Dem plague from Colorado, in 2014.
some other state will be very happy.
A large fraction of (Second Amendment-loving) commerce, much larger than simply my new heroes at Magpul, will exercise free choice to do business elsewhere.
Watch. Colorado tax "revenue" from commerce will drop, and significantly so.
Irate (and taxpaying) 2A supporters (of both parties) will out-migrate.
Nobody needs to organize anything. These responses are visceral, they happen spontaneously.
John Hickenlooper and his chums think they have a victory, when what they have done is to kick the state's economic engine in the (metaphoric) teeth.
Imagine what our world will look like in 10 years if one of the moderate/conservative supreme justices should die or retire in the next 3 years.
Almost everyone on FR slams California, but the same thing happened here when the Libs from out of state moved in. Remember that Reagan was once governor of California.
Someone, somewhere, called the idiot governor of colorado “Chickenpooper”. After I read this article, the name fits him brilliantly.
Historically, any citizen would be allowed to speak if they arrived at the Capitol early and signed up on testimony records. Although sign up sheets were in place and citizens including myself signed up, we were completely disregarded. Minutes after I signed up to testify, I learned a different process would be utilized and testimony was based on three categories: experts, preferred witnesses, and public witnesses. No explanation was provided to define expert or preferred witness. I was told this decision was made by the senate president and the chairperson of the hearing committee. Additionally, experts would have no time constraints and all others would be restricted to three minutes.
As I made my way out of the Capitol, I was shocked at the number of people who attended these hearings. It's estimated the number of people in attendance reached 1,000. I spoke to several and was told they just wanted their voice to be heard.
I am not sharing this because of the outcome of the hearings that day; rather I am sharing this because of the process implemented and the faces of all those citizens that were never permitted to participate in the process. Government is supposed to be by the people, for the people and on this day, they were crushed and kicked to the side. Special interest coalitions and hand picked experts with no relevant expertise trumped our citizens.

Poll at the Denver Post on the proposed Magazine Ban.
Vast majority support repeal of mag ban.
Denver Post rigs poll. (read posts that follow that)
Coloradi deoesn’t care. Just like Maryland doesn’t care that Baretta is moving out because of gun laws.
They will just raise the taxes on those that are left to make up the difference.
Liberals don’t give a damn about jobs. Most of them are on either rich on welfare or don’t work anyway.
I;m on the back order list for Magpul’s 20 round 308 mags for my AR-10. I Don’t care how long it takes. I’ll wait patiently. Good for you Magpul.
The press/Administration will spin this as a knee jerk reaction by an extremest gun manufacturer.
Magpul has a program for CO residents to get mags ahead of others before the ban takes effect. I signed up even though I don't need the extra mags I wanted to support Magpul and say thank you with a few $$$. Don't worry, I'm not cutting in line in front of you - I went for 5.56 mags. ;-)
teh local grocery store we patronize weekly will be receiving a letter in the mail from me next week explaining that since they sponsored a gun buy back and thier Genreal Counsel said the guns have no place in the home, they have lost the right to my patronage and the thousands of dollars I spend there annually.
bring those jobs to Texas!
Posted elsewhere on FR today, Outdoor Channel productions in Colorado ceased today; including one show that was ramping up for shooting (pun not intended, of course) this summer. Their producer wrote a letter to the legislature reminding them that hunting in Colorado is an $800,000,000 industry. Now that nearly all magazines are outlawed, many hunters are going to be leery of entering Colorado with their favorite hunting rifle. Imagine the environmental damage when Colorado Wildlife Division loses its ability to manage all the elk and deer herds in the state...
Manufacturers in CT may be next in line to pack their bags.
??? Details please. I’ve been extremely busy at work for the past couple of weeks and must have missed this.
We need to boycott them. No exceptions. We need to make them, and every other gun-related manufacturer, understand the price to be paid for this type of behavior.
