BIG BROTHER IS BRIBING SNITCHES (Andrew Cuomo)

Andy is fighting back.

As tens of thousands of New Yorkers have declared they will not comply with his massive gun ban, he has decided to play hardball.

I’m talking about Andrew Cuomo, the governor of New York. At the first of the year, he rammed through a toughest-in-the-nation gun ban that criminalizes tens of thousands of law-abiding New Yorkers.

Guns and magazines they’ve owned for years suddenly became illegal, and a massive registration scheme was foisted upon them. Upset and resistance were widespread and immediate.

And a couple of weeks ago, a few thousand salt-of-the-earth New Yorkers gathered on the grounds of the state Capitol and shouted that they would not comply.

Like Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr., they pledged civil disobedience to an unjust and immoral law. They chose obedience to Constitution over subjection to its perversion.

Across upstate, a handful of sheriffs – whose association had denounced the law – said that they would not enforce it.

That showed the governor he had a problem.

Most elected officials would have dealt with that with outreach, by trying to make peace, by at least giving his opponents a fair hearing.

But Andrew Cuomo isn’t most elected officials.

He is a special breed of cat.

So he’s offering a reward.

Specifically, his administration is offering a $500 reward to anyone who gives police a tip that leads to someone’s arrest for possessing an illegal gun.

He criminalizes law-abiding citizens, they resist his efforts, he hires their neighbors to turn them in.

For years, thugs and drug dealers have been gunning people down on the streets. For years, rampant urban violence has been a cancer in New York’s cities.

And there was no reward.

No $500 to induce one thug to turn another in.

But there’s a new gun law, and this new initiative, and anyone who dares resist the governor’s dictate needs to fear everyone around him.

Here’s how it works.

A toll-free number has been established. State troopers will answer it around the clock. People will call, anonymously, and report folks who have an illegal gun.

Like your turkey shotgun with the newly outlawed thumb-hole stock, or the high-capacity magazine that came with your pistol when you bought it in Pennsylvania.

The troopers will pass that tip to the law-enforcement agency in the community where the alleged gun owner lives. The state will later contact that agency to see how worthwhile the tip was. At the end of the investigation, the state will expect a report from the agency on how it went.

I think that’s meant to make sure the local agency doesn’t blow off the tip.

If there is an arrest, the state will pay $500 to the person who gave the tip.

I’m not sure where the Fourth Amendment fits in all this. Apparently, uncorroborated anonymous tips are going to be considered probable cause to make someone the subject of a state-monitored police investigation. That would presumably include some sort of search warrant. How can you find out, for example, if someone has an illegal gun without going through their property and possessions?

Sounds like a great way to screw with somebody.

Sounds like a great way to shred the Constitution.

Sounds like a great way to turn people against one another and to turn every busybody or disaffected brother-in-law into a narc.

But Andy is that serious about guns, and the people who own them.

Apparently, a lot more serious than he is about rape, murder and child molesting.

Because I don’t find any reference anywhere to a New York state program where you are offered a reward for turning in rapists, killers or pedophiles.

Rape and murder a child, and the state does not offer a reward for your arrest. Have a shotgun with a collapsible stock – like those sold all across America – and there’s $500 on your head.

It seems like the state is more interested in suppressing your freedom than it is in protecting victims’ lives. It seems like New York doesn’t want to catch criminals, it wants to catch grampas.

And it is willing to pay snitches to do it.

Just like Big Brother.

And Hitler and Stalin.

Turn the people against one another, make sycophants the servile tattletales of an angry and powerful state.

And pay people to spy on one another.

That’s Andrew Cuomo’s America.

“Guns and magazines they’ve owned for years suddenly became illegal”

I don’t GET it.

You buy something LEGALLY and spend your MONEY on it. The State then changes its mind and declares it ILLEGAL and deprives you of a legally obtained asset without fair compensation.

Isn’t this an ex-post facto law? Isn’t that un constituional?

Isn’t this sort of like “eminent domaine” without adequate compensation?

Have we ever pursued this argument in the courts?

Simple solution: Report every liberal you suspect of possessing an illegal weapon. Do it daily from phone booths or throw-away cell phones. Let New York deal with the continuous "snitch" calls and see how long it lasts. The socialists will drop this nonsense in a NY minute. Watch.

Greenwich Village is a prime target for those who possess now unlawful weapons. If I lived there, I would make it my civic responsibility to rat on every liberal I believed to have a gun - and many do.

So, take names and make calls. At $500 a pop, 10 calls a day means that you could be making $25000 per week.

Just get a ton of names of people who live in urban zones, where the illegal guns are in numbers, and start reporting them.

Snitching could be an awesome career choice.

Anonymous tips should be made on every member of the Legislature who voted for this law, every member of the governor’s cabinet, every member of the governor’s staff and don’t forget to name the governor’s bodyguards who more than likely do have illegal firearms.

I bet the Hudson Valley Journal-News won’t be outing the snitches like they did gun owners in January.

If the “R” party were truly an opposition party, its members would be tying up the legislature everyday trying to get an amendment to the state constitution affirming the right to bear arms on the ballot. However, since the “R” party believes in getting along, Cuomo will do what he wants.

“It sounds like our New York Freepers had better get busy flooding the system. A group of a few dozen folks with time on their hands could make enough calls to paralyze them. When 99% of the calls turn up nothing at all and take the cops on one wild goose chase after another it will end quickly.”

How very Alinsky-ish. :)

You know, there were people that claimed the "War on Drugs" would set a precedent to come after gun owners. They just made that up, though, to free the weed.

Thank you drug warriors. You supported tyrants and as far as I'm concerned you are just as much of an enemy as the left. This is coming from an individual who has never touched an illegal substance in his life.

Disclaimer: I am not endorsing nor advocating a crime with the following comment.

That said, if someone should visit lethal harm upon Mr. Cuomo I won’t be shedding a tear for him given that his actions will inevitably result in the deaths of his fellow New Yorkers.
