DHS Denies Massive Ammunition Purchase

The Department of Homeland Security responded Friday to questions from Rep. Tim Huelskamp, R-Kan., about why the agency was allegedly planning to buy some 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition over the next five years.

DHS told Whispers it regularly fills all of its goods and services requirements at one time because it's cheaper for the agency, and that the 1.6 billion number was misleading because the language of DHS's purchase said it would need "up to" a certain amount.

One solicitation by the agency—for training centers and law enforcement personnel—was for "up to" 750 million rounds of training ammunition over the next five years, DHS spokesman Peter Boogaard told Whispers.

Another five-year contract allows for the purchase of "up to" 450 million rounds of ammunition, he said, and was also for law enforcement. Boogaard noted that the contract would be used by all DHS agencies except the Coast Guard.

“DHS Denies Massive Ammunition Purchase”

Who cares? Americans have enough ammo to shoot every DHS employee 45,385 times.

Those rigs get very poor fuel economy and tire life due to the weight of the hull armoring.

Defund the DHS until they start complying with US Law.

ATK Ammunition is the largest manufacturer of ammunition in the world! Besides manufacturing ammunition for hunters and shooters, ATK also is the main ammunition supplier for the homeland security and police officers. ATK Ammo has a huge production capacity and is responsible for running two major ammo production plants by the name of the Radford Army Ammunition Plant and the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. “

....I asked a TSA agent about this....

and he replied (with a straight face)....

They just going to take the bullets out and re-melt them into regular rounds...and re-install into the casings....

and as for the 2750 light IED resistant vehicles.....

"they all for border patrols"

...I think this guy is missing a great career as a comedian...

So if, say...a group of civilians were to find the location of the 1.6 billion rounds, DHS wouldn’t mind if the civilians walked off with them..since they don’t exist, I mean.

Usually contracts for “units” of an item are based on a bulk purchase price from a minimum to a maximum.

I have a government contract for my service. It is a fixed rate per unit and I have a minimum number of units. But they can purchase up to X units, giving me first right of refusal. I don’t have to provide more than the minimum, but if they want more, I am gauranteed the rate through the maximum units.

Does that make sense?

Why do they need to buy all those bullets?

The Cambodians murdered a huge number of their political victims using shovels, pickaxes, and gasoline. Why can't DHS use the same sensible budgeting techniques?

That’s easy. 1000 airports; and 100 gropers at each airport, and VIOLA! There you have it.

(Spelling intentional).

Very similar things have come up before from these kenya clowns. There sure seems a likihood that this was just another “scare whitey” fake leak just to poke us in the eye.

Now that they’ve been called out on it, they have to fess up to it being a mis-understanding.

Hollow points are used for training. Hollow points have always been used for training even before DHS existed.
