As the Boy Scouts of America ponder whether to allow gays to be Scout leaders, a number Scouting officials debated the issue Saturday morning in downtown Orlando.
At the end of that session, dozens of Scout leaders and parents staged a news conference to announce the formation of a Scout group opposed to allowing "open homosexuality" by adults in the Boy Scouts.
"The Boy Scouts are one of the great jewels of American culture," said John Stemberger, Eagle Scout and founder of OnMyHonor.net. "We support the current policy of scouting, which is backed by over 100 years of tradition and allows anyone to participate irrespective of sexual orientation, only disallowing the open and aggressive promotion of homosexuality and political agendas. When it comes to young boys, parents have the final say on the issues of sex and politics."
Stemberger is well-known in Florida as the leader of a 2008 constitutional amendment campaign defining marriage as being one man and one woman. At the news conference, OnMYHonor.net was announced as the name of the organization that opposes allowing gay adults to be Scout leaders.
Scout officials interviewed by WESH 2 News at the summit expressed opinions on both sides of the issue.
After debating the issue last month and deciding to give it more study, the BSA is scheduled to prepare a policy in April and for national delegates to vote on in May.
Needless to say, the progressives would be horrified at the idea of heterosexual adult males being Girl Scoutmasters, and yet how is a gay Boy Scoutmaster any different - an adult in authority over a young person who represents the focus of his sexual orientation.
And of course those same progressives who mock the Catholic church over the activities of the pedophile priests will mock the Boy Scouts over the activities of pedophile scoutmasters (whom the progressives forced the Scouts to accept!).
Hmmmm.... Should the Boy Scouts let homosexual scout leaders take little boys off into the woods, or shouldn’t they?

It may sound a bit cliche but we really need to send the boy scout leaders our prayers. It is no easy thing in the current culture to stand for what is right and true. The political and economic pressures to conform to popular depravity is extreme. Pray for them.

As the father of a 13-year-old scout, I know where I stand on this issue. Not interested in any gay leadership of scout troops, thanks.

This is the key. It is no secret that there are gay men in leadership positions in scouts. However, it is somewhat secretive, in that they don't run around teaching homosexuality, or openly declaring their right to do what they want in scouting.
There are also gay scouts. I can remember no time in scouting where a scout has ever been asked what their sexual preference was. We don't talk about it, it is not part of the scouting lore or teaching. We don't talk about it, we don't teach kids how to use condoms, or deal with the issues of homosexuality.
But we are told that to not openly support gayness is to make gays "2nd class citizens". Screw that. I was not ever considered to be a center for a basketball team, or a goalie in soccer, or a quarterback in football. Does that make me a "2nd-class citizen"? There were a whole range of scholarships that were closed to my daughter, because she was not the right race, or the right gender-association. Does that make her a 2nd-class citizen? My son could not be in the girl scouts -- is he 2nd-class now?
There are so many characteristics of individuals, that if we tried to make sure that NONE of those characteristics were "discriminated against", we'd never really be able to accomplish anything. Currently there is an entire class of Boy Scout activity my son cannot participate in (which included the Jamboree) because he simply is too huge for his size, and doesn't meet the "BMI" index. This even though he had no trouble doing a 4-day 185-mile backpacking bike trek, and a 10-day wilderness Alaskan rafting trip.
The risk is real, but if the scouts needed to be "all-inclusive", they would have to cancel these activities for ALL scouts, in order to not be "excluding" scouts who were at risk if they were allowed to participate.
We had an openly gay politician RUNNING FOR OFFICE as an openly gay democrat, who as part of his campaign bragged about being a cub scout pack leader. So it seems that being gay is NOT really something that keeps you from being a scout leader.
I was scouting in the 50's and 60's and ;
1, A queer wouldn't even be in the parish my scout membership based,
2, My father, and any father I can remember from back then, would'a, at the least, beat the faggot to within an inch of his life if he ever tried to be in an official capacity around boys,
3, A couple of those fathers would'a just shot him.

I donated to the Scouts last year....got an e-mail survey last week with a link...asked me all sorts of “hypothetical” questions...what if a sodomite were a Scout in a church where sodomy was celebrated, would that be okay?
I said no.
The final question had to do with whether I would give money again if the BSA celebrated sodomy. No was my emphatic answer.
The Boy Scouts of America are being bullied and threatened by the Politically Correct, NAMBLIA, “ Gay Carpetbaggers” etc. to jettison their values....JUST A MINUTE!!!! Straight men and boys have rights also and don’t forget it. The Boy Scouts of America does not have to entertain Gay Rights to remain viable....being Straight is also a Right!
