Treasury Sued to Remove 'God' from Currency (In God We Trust)

WASHINGTON, DC (Worthy News)– The Freedom From Religion Foundation is suing the U.S. Treasury Department to remove "In God We Trust" from all its currency.

A nonprofit organization that represents atheists and agnostics, the FFRF claims the motto is "offensive" to the nonreligious.

In February, the FFRF and 19 plaintiffs filed a civil suit in New York claiming the motto violates the First and Fifth Amendments of the Constitution; they also claim it forces atheists, agnostics and secular skeptics to impart a religious message they all decry whenever using U.S. currency, resulting in a false declaration of their own religious views.

Dan Barker, co-president of the Wisconsin-based FFRF, also believes the motto sends a religious message to everyone who uses U.S. currency.

"[In God We Trust] is indeed considered to be a religious phrase," Barker told The Christian Post. "The message belongs in churches, private institutions and can be shared by missionaries, but who is the 'we' representing, if not all of us trust in a God?"

“...they also claim it forces atheists, agnostics and secular skeptics to impart a religious message they all decry whenever using U.S. currency...”

As though it’s removal would not force us to honor their viewpoint.....

Since America's very Declaration of Independence was premised on Blessings from the Creator--and clearly states as much;--one can only wonder why these offended litigants even remain in these United States. Surely if the sensitive folk feel threatened by something stamped on a coin, or printed on a bank note; they must be absolutely terrified by the fact that the very existence of a political order, here, is premised upon what even threatens them in four words stamped under George Washington's chin on a quarter.

Crack-pots looking for a cause, while society collapses in chaos that could have been avoided, had Americans remained truer to their roots!

Here's the problem....The atheist has been using "In God We Trust" money all his life...and he's still an atheist and Christianity is not the "government established" religion of this country.

Now Islam is different. The Koran and all its fallacies are law.

Not only in Newtown.
Here in my State of Maryland they just passed a law that will make half of Maryland felons.

We may be able to beat it on a Referendum, If we cannot, I may have to move, and give the State to the liberal CS’ers.

But they DO believe in God...they just don’t want to admit it to anyone else, or to themselves. You can’t despise that which you don’t think even exists.....

It’s a hard thing for me to move.

My family has been in Southern Md. for 400 years, I have friends here. But monetarily I am not sure I can afford to stay. They are taxing me to death.

Maybe "In Wicca We Trust". "In Mohammed we Trust."

When will these obnoxious babies 'put their big girl panties on and get over it'.

They are idiots. So, when they state 'In God will Trust' is against their personal rights, whip out your pocket book copy of the Constitution and ask the miscreant where they are getting their information. Then read it with this person.

And, "senda' free copy of the Constitution to them yourself."

They will likely destroy and toss it.

"Discuss amongst yourselves".

They will wail and moan but maybe something will "take"

Guess I'm just dreaming... They will likely destroy and toss it.

These "atheists" do not speak for me.

I am completely indifferent to whether "In God We Trust" appears on the currency.

Now let me turn the question around.

We added "In God We Trust" to the dollar bill and "One Nation Under God" to the pledge, both in the mid fifties.

In what way has America become a more moral nation as a result? Does your God appreciate the difference between the slogans a nation mouths and the behaviors it exhibits??

"Why doesn’t the Freedom from Obnoxious Atheists sue to have “In God We Trust” remain on the money? "

Indeed!

nobody says they have to use money. almost all “money” isn’t physical coin or paper anyway.

there needs to be a law that once such a nuisance lawsuit is rejected by scotus it can’t be filed again for at least 100 years in any court.

it is also in the star spangled banner, third verse.

‘let this be our motto
in God is our trust’

"Atheists and agnostics and whatevers can use credit cards. I’ve yet to see “in God We trust” on any credit card."

They can have a special atheist credit card imprinted with "There is no God to trust".

The agnostic credit card can say "I'm not sure who or what to trust. I'm just not sure."

In God We Trust was on US coinage as early as 1864, on the 2cent piece.
