Coburn actually believes that the government will abide by the law?

Yeah, they would never abuse a database crammed with information about law-abiding Americans, right?

EPA acknowledges releasing personal details on farmers

Didn’t all these politicians take an oath to defend the Constitution & the Bill of Rights? They should be impeached if they break that oath. What a bunch of hobo losers.

Tom Coburn sure seems to enjoy being the voice of “moderation” against his more conservative fellow Republicans. It must be all those “Gang of 6, 8, 14, etc.” he keeps joining to sell out his conservative colleagues’ ideals. He sounds more and more like Lindsey Graham and John McCain every day.

Don’t worry: this will never pass.

Don't ever say that. Remember Obamacare -

Scott Brown will be the vote stopping it.

The House Blue Dog RATS will not vote for it because of abortion funding.

The GOP takes the House and will defund Obamacare.

The States will sue up through the SCOTUS and they will find the individual mandate Unconstitutional and the whole law collapses without that part.

If Republicans are of the belief that there must be an up-or-down vote on bills that violate the most unambiguous part of the Bill of Rights, then what is the purpose of serving in the Senate?

I am so sorry I ever voted for Coburn. But in my defense, he has changed over the past 3-4 years.

As far as his line about not knowing where my senators stand on the issue if the filibuster happens, BUNK! If the filibuster happens, and my senators don’t side with the filibuster, I’ll know exactly where they stand.

The talks hit a snag, however, on the issue of record-keeping – Coburn vehemently opposes any attempt by the federal government to retain information on gun owners.

The FBI is not supposed to retain info about background checks. They do anyway, because the legislation never specified a penalty for doing so.

Have an amendment saying that having possession of background check info, or permitting background check info to be retained, is a felony punishable by 10 years in prison, with no statute of limitation. So any FBI executive that orders retention, or any FBI IT person making a backup of the info, or any FBI IT person making it possible to make backups of the info, goes to jail. And while the current administration would not prosecute, they have to worry about future admins.

Sure, they can put into law that records of firearms sales or background checks be destroyed within three days, but who in their right mind believes the feds will actually do it?

A mandate that something be done, with no prescribed penalties to not doing it, is just window dressing. See my post #67

Here's what our Government is trying to do. They get the background check and hold the records, claiming it's not compiled in a database, but then Obama declares a State of Emergency on violence and uses an Executive Order to force the FBI and ATF to compile a database of all gun owners.

It's an end-around the Constitution.
