Remington has made their intentions to stay in the state of New York clear in a recent meeting with state lawmakers, in spite of the passage of the SAFE act, the highly controversial gun control package that has already started to come undone.
Dozens and dozens of companies have boycotted New York law enforcement in protest of the passage of these gun laws, and companies across the U.S. are relocating following the recent push for increased gun control around the country.
Remington is taking the opposite tack, and is going forward with plans for a $20 million upgrade to their manufacturing facility in Ilion, N.Y. They are doing so to fulfill a 10-year contract with the military to supply SOCOM with 5,000 Remington MSR sniper rifles. The contract is worth $79.7 million for the rifles as well as Advanced Armament Corp. Titan QD suppressors and 4,696,800 rounds of ammo.
The state of New York has granted Remington millions of dollars over the years to upgrade and renovate their Illion facilities, almost $6 million just recently.
“In 2010, Empire State Development, the agency that works with private companies to attract and retain jobs, announced $2.5 million in grants and subsidies to help Remington bring its Marlin lever-action gun production from Connecticut to Ilion and add 100 jobs. That followed two grants in 2009 worth $3 million for renovations and machinery.
Whether the state will continue to support and subsidize Remington and other Freedom Group gun manufacturers is another issue entirely. But for at least the next decade, Remington will remain at their Ilion home, where they employ about 1,200 people, in order to supply the military with rifles uninterrupted.

If Remington ammo is available in the calibers I shoot then I will buy it unless there is a competing brand available too. I will definitely favor their competitors when more than one brand is available. As for firearms, I will buy other brands instead.

Look folks, the 2nd Amendment is a key to the Bill of Rights, just like the 1st Amendment.
No infringement is allowed. Period.
Any person, company, or Congresscritter who supports the violation of our rights ought to suffer the worst legal (well, so far) retribution possible.

Plenty of other companies I can give my business to.
If they have something I want, I will buy it from them. All I can think of right now, is ammunition and reloading components.
Remington read the tea leaves and knows that the government will be their only legal customers anyway...
I think this will end my business with Remington. Lines are being drawn, and gun businesses and owners alike need to figure out where they stand. Gun manufacturers should go to 2nd Amendment friendly states.
Maybe they read the bill and think the NY SC or USSC will overturn the SAFE Act?

I recently waited 3 months for a 700BDL 30.06. My shop couldn’t procure one even after direct contact with Remington so they refunded my deposit.
Bought a Weatherby instead. It’s a better rifle with nicer finish. This is just another reason I’m glad I made that choice.

They will join GMC in the pro-government side. I’ll never buy a GMC vehicle , I won’t buy Remmington anything. There are plenty of weapons and ammo companies that compete with them. This administration is dividing us up. I’m good with that. Just let them be the prime government supplier.

I was going to buy me a Remington 700 this year or next for my first bolt action. Looks like that won’t be happening.

OK, fine, they have the right to choose where they locate their production facilities.
But I also have a right to determine whether or not to support, with my hard-earned money, a company that clearly does not give a rat’s ass about the monumental infringements of Constitutional rights going on in the place that they choose to produce arms, ammo and ammo components. They have the choice to move to another state, one much more friendly to the rights of its citizens, but have chosen to stay in NY and pay taxes to the tyrannical government of that state. Therefore, MY CHOICE IS TO BOYCOTT REMINGTON.
With us, or with the Statists. Remington has chosen, and so have I. Screw Remington and the horse they rode in on, I will reward its competitors.

In the meantime, I’ll be buying used Remington products (not new) while eyeing alternatives. And the AAC cans I want will be the made-in-GA ones.

Remington reminds me of the German weapons manufactuer, Krup. They quickly got in bed with Hitler’s group and were allowed to continue to flourish (under the Nazi’s thumb of course). Looks like Remington is looking to be the liberal’s mistress.
I have a 700, and it is a mighty fine rifle. However, even before this I was considering the fact that Savage makes even better rifles for the same price, and sometimes for a lower price. Besides, if you want an awesomely accurate rifle (i.e. under 1/2 minute of angle on a consistent basis) you need to take a mass production rifle to a gunsmith and have a variety of service performed on it.
Get yourself a Savage, that's what I plan on doing for my next boltie. Screw Remington, it has decided to stand with the tyrants, the statists, the would-be dictators.
