Sandy Hook mother replaces Obama for guns in weekly President's radio address
BBC ^

The mother of a victim of last year's Sandy Hook shootings has replaced Barack Obama to deliver the weekly US presidential radio address.

Francine Wheeler, whose six-year-old son Ben was killed, used the nationally-broadcast statement to call for tighter gun controls.

Asking a citizen to deliver the weekly address is a highly unusual move.

It comes as President Obama attempts to ratchet up pressure on the US Congress, which is due to debate new gun laws.

In an often emotional statement, Ms Wheeler recalled waiting for her son to return home following the shootings, and said the "tidal wave of anguish" resulting from that day had yet to recede.

She said new gun laws were needed to prevent more deaths.

"We have to convince the Senate to come together and pass commonsense gun responsibility reforms that will make our communities safer and prevent more tragedies like the one we never thought would happen to us," she said.

Ms Wheeler's son Ben was killed along with 19 other children and six staff when 20-year-old Adam Lanza opened fire at his elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut.

The address was broadcast on radio and released as a video online.

This week senators are due to debate new laws that will extend background checks to gun sales made at gun shows and over the internet.

The measures are the result of a bipartisan deal struck between Republican and Democrat senators last week.

What does it mean when politicians use a grieving parent/widow to push politics?

It means they’re trying to shame you into not thinking and just going along like a good little useful idiot.

Or a responsible father.

We can stand to hear this woman go through the grieving process.

Not when the results will lead to gun confiscation.

I wonder how many of these parents were anti-gun and anti-2nd-Amendment before the killings?

Obama: 645 Romney: 577
Johnson: 4
Anderson: 12

Her grief keeps her from realizing Democrats will use it to further their attempts to completely subjugate freedom-minded Americans. Forgive her - she knows not what she does.

and she also does not realize that Obama will look the other way when 'Holder's people' gun down children or when smarter criminals turn to bombs. As usual, they will all say "we never thought this would ever happen". They were shocked when the Sandy Hook massacre happened and they'll be shocked ad nauseam as long as dumb minds exist on Earth.

I can’t imagine what they will continue to endure the rest of their lives. I would be a basket case. However, I cannot forgive them for insisting that my children be left without protection just because theirs were.

I can imagine. They will read about more massacres of helpless children in 'gun free zones' thanks to this legislation. They will be horrified all over again and ve reminded of their loss all over again while the rest of us become the newly bereaved.

If my children ever get murdered then I will blame every remotely leftist individual in the entire country and treat them like ****ing murderers every chance I get. There won't be anything else left in my life but vengeance.

She is beyond stupid to be used in zero’s pawn game....

Grief and depression tend to lower a person's IQ significantly. She is probably a nice person but her stupidity will cause the deaths of thousands more little ones.

Low intellect is a disease which must be removed. It is the only disease which causes a nice person to cause senseless destruction.

I don’t want to judge them for this...but there is no way that I would ever want to show my face in public.

If my 6 year old was blown to bloody shreds in a school classroom...I’d hide myself in a cellar for years. They would have to feed me via IV because I’d lose the will to eat and drink.

meanwhile, a MILLION children will be rationed to death from Obamacare. Dear leader will be literally worshiped whenever one child survives.

They will fail at banning guns because I would RATHER DIE then live in a world where dehumanization continues its course into the bottom of the abyss. If they succeed at disarming us...this will happen to our little ones...

They can take my guns from my cold dead hands before they take my kids!

Imagine the emotionalism driving this. She's had time to think and absorb what happened. In the final analysis it was the government that killed these kids.

The state and county governments have abandoned the seriuosly mentally ill. The state, county and federal government have made it nigh impossible to arm teachers (remember the armed pilot program and how impossible it was to get "certified").

The NICS is a joke and a waste of time when less than 1% of denials ever make it to prosecution. What's the purpose of gun control? It certainly isn't putting criminals in jail. We already have enough laws on the books to do that.

What's the real purpose here?

C’mon...President Obama and Governor Malloy have to be right that out of the sixty or so teachers and staff at Sandy Hook they couldn’t possibly find even five or six that are mentally stable enough to be trusted with a firearm, even with training...most of them are NEA members.

“These parents of the kids who died are still grieving. I can’t imagine what that is like and hopefully never will. You have NO IDEA what you would do or say in this position. I don’t agree with changing guns laws because it will do nothing but these parents of dead 6 years olds should be shown some respect.”

They are grieving, and the ghouls are making sure they keep them that way. It is common for grieving people to lash out irrationally, and these people are being pointed at a target by opportunistic politicos.

Dear Ms. Wheeler,
You were entitled to my sympathy for your murdered child up until the point where you became a communist shill. Since you have lowered yourself to that status, you are entitled only to my enmity and contempt. May nothing but misfortune, illness, and misery be your lot for the rest of your days.

With sincere disrespect,
Me

So, how do your peers feel about the president’s assertion that among all of you there are not five or six that are stable enough to be trusted with a firearm?

We had a lockdown drill some time ago. One of my colleagues told me that during the drill, he found himself wishing for a shotgun. He wasn’t the only one..... My opinion is that if we had a shift in the rules we’d have armed teachers at my school, although not the majority, as women seem to be generally opposed to the notion. My most immediate colleagues pooh-pooh the notion of not being competent- some have been Marines and a majority of the rest own guns themselves or their husbands do. Nice not being in a Yankee union school....

Two questions for Mrs. Wheeler:

1) Have you read the legislation?

2) Exactly how does the legislation make it so what happened in that case will never happen again?
