Charles Schumer: Gun-control deal means NY could be 'swamped' by out-of-staters with concealed arms

New York would be forced to honor concealed-weapons permits from the other 49 states under proposals advanced in the Senate by allies of the National Rifle Association as part of a broader gun control deal, Sen. Charles Schumer warned Sunday.

In a release issued Sunday, Schumer (D-N.Y.) said New York, which requires stringent screenings of concealed-carry applicants, could be "swamped by armed individuals from out of state carrying hidden and loaded firearms."

But Rockland County Legis. Frank Sparaco (R-Valley Cottage), a critic of parts of New York's SAFE Act gun control law, applauded the reciprocal carry proposal as a "wonderful idea" akin to the agreement under which licenses let motorists drive in any state. He maintained that the right to bear arms is protected absolutely under the Second Amendment.

The bill looks better if Schumer is against it.

That's his trick. Schumer will do anything to get a bill in place that has universal background checks ~ ANY THING!!!

Remember, Chucky is also a baby killer and wants this country overrun with the world's illiterate and criminal classes.

I wouldn't trust him

As far as I’m concerned we should demand an elimination of background checks or nothing.

I’m done with the slow sell out.

Implies law abiding people would go to NY, if they had ability to defend themselves.

Road blocks to stop law abiding victims from entering the empire state with firearms. Of course that wouldn’t stop the bad guys from getting them in. They haven’t stopped the drugs or black market cigs yet. Nor will they. Won’t have any luck with the 16+oz drinks being smuggled in either.

That was my reaction -

why is a politician afraid of armed law abiding citizens?

/rhetorical question

Well, they want a gay marriage performed in one state to be recognized in all the others. Article IV of the Constitution applies to gun owners too. A license to carry in one state should be recognized in New York.

I am NOT in favor of accepting Universal Background checks (or anything else, for that matter) simply because I could carry CCW in NY State because I have a Georgia CCW.

In fact, I could give a sh!t about what happens anywhere in New York State. I'll not knowingly purchase anything from there, do business there. If you are a freedom minded person, you should leave there. Failing that, you need to get rid of your government riddled with rabid Democrats. IF you can't do that, then your state is doomed. One of the original colonies that created this great nation, and I doubt they even teach that in NYS any more.

Background checks are an utter exercise in stupidity anyway. They do absolutely nothing to stop criminals and only control the law abiding.

For the life of me I don't understand why Schumer et. al. don't recognize this for what it is, i.e. a GOOD THING. Concealed carry licensee are, as a class, some of the best citizens on the planet.

But people who, after months of gun discussion, still think ‘semi-automatic’ means ‘machine gun’ these checks sound like a panacea.

I don’t care if someone’s buying guns or Cabbage Patch kids. Asking for government approval to engage in legal activity is an abrogation of rights, voluntary or otherwise.

Yup-the ‘out of staters’ will be crooks from the rest of the states going to NY for the easy pickin’s!
