Democratic Rep. Rush wants to stop House use of term 'illegal immigrants' By Pete Kasperowicz - 04/15/13 10:01 AM ET
Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.) has introduced a resolution that calls on members of the House to stop referring to "undocumented foreign nationals" as "illegal" immigrants.
His proposal, H.Res. 155, expresses the "necessity" for members of the House to use the term "undocumented" instead of "illegal" when referring to "foreign nationals which are working in the United States without proper documentation."
Rush's resolution was proposed shortly after The Associated Press news service said it would no longer use the term "illegal immigrant." According to the AP, "illegal" should be used to describe an action, not a person.
But conservatives criticized the decision as a political one that seemed designed to help those who support an immigration reform bill that would include a pathway to citizenship for immigrants living in the country illegally. The decision was made by the AP just as Congress is starting to consider immigration reform.
On Friday, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) said on the House floor that he believes "illegal immigrant" is still the right term, despite conversations he's had with British officials.
"I asked what words they use, and I was told the appropriate terminology is 'irregular migrant,' " Gohmert said Friday. "I was concerned that sounded too much like some kind of body function. I hated to use that term.
"Anyway, when people immigrate into a country illegally, it's illegal immigration," Gohmert added. "And it is a problem."
Rush's resolution would be non-binding if it were to pass, but it likely has no chance of going forward in the Republican House. As of Friday, it had no sponsors.
Can we cut to the chase and call them “Undocumented Democrat election fraudsters?”
I wonder if they would prefer the term “border jumpers”?
OK!Instead of illegal alians we’ll call them Criminal Alians. Is that better.
Okay, let’s call them ‘illegal foreign expatriates,.........
How about we call them “alien foreign invaders”? Or how about “domestic business sponsored insurgents”? Cheap labor will cost you dearly in the end.
We need to stop using the term Democrat when refering to the Socialist Marxist party.
Immigrants follow the law.
If Obama had a senile old fool for a son.....
What they are are foreign nationals, and therefore invaders.
And you swore an oath, Congressman, to protect each and every state from invasion.
So just shut up already and do your duty.
Mexican moochers, future Rat voters,Spanish speaking squatters.take your pick
Right out of George Orwell’s 1984 - any form of thought alternative to the government will be classified as thoughtcrime, racist, or hate crime.
Mexicans who entered the US State of Texas from Mexico by crossing the Rio Grande river, which forms the border between Texas and Mexico, presumably by swimming or wading across and getting wet in the process..
I prefer the term “illegal aliens” because “immigrants” indicates a desire to stay and I think they should be deported to their home country.
Another useful idiot. No shortage of them, is there???
“On Friday, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) said on the House floor that he believes “illegal immigrant” is still the right term, “
He’s wrong too. The CORRECT LEGAL term is ILLEGAL ALIEN!
These intruders are NO kind of immigrant.
Harry Reid used to call them ‘freeloaders and scam artists’. I’m good with that.
Fair enough; how about “Undocumented Felons”?
It's an insult to all those that came her legally!
How about “Illegal Foreign Invader Job and Government Benefit Thieves”?
^ Here, not “her”
