The Boston Red Sox played their annual 11:05 a.m. Patriots Day game at Fenway Park, allowing them and the Tampa Bay Rays to be the first teams to honor Jackie Robinson on the 66th anniversary of his historic first game with the Brooklyn Dodgers.

All players in action today and tonight will wear Robinson’s “42,” which was retired by Major League Baseball in 1997, on baseball’s fifth annual Jackie Robinson Day. Teams that are off today will wear the number Tuesday. ...

Are those the days when every MLB player wears the respective numbers of those baseball greats on their jersey? I must miss the coverage every year...I need to pay attention.

Orphans and Oklahomans were never barred, as a class, from playing major league baseball.

If this was a guilt-inducing event it would come across far differently. Instead it's a celebration of a man who handled enormous pressure with dignity and let his play do the talking. And, in a commissioner career filled with mistakes, it's one of the things that Bud Selig has gotten right.

My first cousin's husband and daughter painted all the old retro signs and scoreboard at Birminghams Rickwood Field for the movie "42". They did a fantastic job!

I remember probably 30 years ago, Sammy's first job was doing pin-striping for NASCAR teams.

As far as I know, that’s only done on Jackie Robinson Day. It’s a true tribute to a very special man.
