The Boy Scouts of America called to end a long-standing ban on openly gay members, a spokesman said on Friday, but the organization's board must still vote in May on whether to ratify the resolution.
If the vote is approved, "no youth may be denied membership in the Boy Scouts of America on the basis of sexual orientation or preference alone," Deron Smith, the organization's spokesman, told Reuters.
Smith noted that the decision drew from three months of research, surveys and discussions and was "among the most complex and challenging issues facing the BSA and society today." he deliberations over whether to admit openly gay and lesbian members to the Boy Scouts has divided organizers, polarized its corporate and religious sponsors, and placed the group at the center of a nationwide debate over gay rights over the past two years.
"This is a historic change for the Boy Scouts," said Patrick Boyle, whose 1994 book "Scout's Honor" examined sexual abuse in the Boy Scouts of America.
"You have a more than hundred-year-old organization changing what it considered a fundamental belief just a decade ago. That says a lot about the Scouts and a lot about how far the gay rights movement has come in the United States."

Wrong. It says alot about how weak the leaders of the Boys Scout really are to succumb to what is evil. Give them the Boys Scouts - it's better to do that than lose your soul by bowing to evil and being apart of leading young boys into 'their evil beliefs'.

Well, another American standard has been destroyed by feminism. When men lost control of government and the scouts, this was to become the end result.
I think God that I was born in the 50’s and was raised to be a man and girls were raised to be women....and there was no blurring of the lines of what men did and what women did.
The Democrats (as a whole) are totally responsible for the total destruction of morality in America.

It's not about punishing kids. It's about keeping them away from sodomites within their ranks. BSA was once a safe place for boys to learn important life lessons. Just as school used to be the safest place for kids until they were over-run with gang members and drug dealers.
Theo, if you read the executive summary, you are absolutely correct. 61% of Boy Scout leaders support the current policy. 70 some % of Charter Organizations do too.
I’m still proud to be a Scout leader but if it goes through, we’ve got some serious deciding to do. I’m peripherally involved with a loose confederation of BSA leaders working on a plan.
My boys are out of the program. Too bad.
Notice how the Boy Scouts are changing policy based on cultural trends rather than remaining unchanged based on absolute moral principles (which don’t change). This is a sell out to liberalism and relativism.

If the Boy Scouts make this concession to the perverts I will no longer donate and will burn my 1960’s era uniform in silence.

I went to a high school event last year.
There was one girl, wearing a sweater vest and tie, with short hair - trying to be a guy.
And there were two boys trying their best to be flamboyant and gay.
Its ‘cool’ to be gay now. :(
Always doing the right thing is better for the person in the long run. In everything we have to make decisions and some harder than most. If they are too weak to fight - they are better to disband what is good rather than allowing evil to infiltrate what is good and then have to be apart of it.

This is the start of where they went wrong! Thinking "they" had to discuss anything when God has already spoken and said homosexuality is an abomination to HIM!!

So Mr. Smith the vote is really a vote for either God or evil. Who will the Boy Scouts leaders individually vote for - God or evil? And to even make a vote available says alot about the leaders - they became so low, so deceived to even think there should be a vote/choice. Burn the "Scouts Honor" if you now, as leaders, you have to vote on it - you faithless wimpy bunch. Shut it down before allowing evil in! Show you really do believe in HONOR!

But to be clear, I also think boys who are openly engaged in sex with girls should also be removed from the scouts.
At least, no scout should be allowed to remain if they have sex with another scout, male or female.
