OAKLAND, Calif. — A massive law enforcement sweep was underway in Oakland Wednesday, with nine people having reportedly been detained an hour after it was first reported.

FBI agents, local police SWAT and the California Highway Patrol were targeting multiple locations.

Several streets were closed down in West Oakland during the sweeps. Portions of Seventh and Eighth streets were shut down in the area for at least 90 minutes and while helicopters circled overhead.

The police barricades were reportedly lifted just before 10:20 p.m.

It appeared to be an extensive operation with many officers involved.

There were agents carrying out actions in numerous parts of the city Wednesday night. As of 9 p.m., KTVU learned that nine people had been detained.

An hour later, a separate sweep involving San Leandro Police reportedly resulted in a standoff near the intersection of E. 22 Street and 14th Avenue.

If they manage to do this in TX and walk away unscathed, I will be very surprised.

They'll do it in Austin, first.

Only nine? One would think that many of the people law enforcement would encounter in a sweep of Oakland would have a ton of arrest warrants on them. Might as well set up a tent city at the jail.

Consider the 4th amendment is enforced at the whim of judges appointed by bureaucrats. What’s to stop the Federal tyrants from rubber stamping warrants for anyone they deem a threat, regardless of veracity?

Given the area, I’m not in the least surprised or concerned, but at some point common sense thinking people have to start asking tough questions.

If they don’t want the cops doing this they should civilize themselves. My little town sees a county cop roll through once or twice per month because we don’t need them.

Even the feds are likely to keep their distance after getting their patties smacked over the Hutaree raid.

A national reporter asked the local Sheriff in West, Texas about reports that there had been looting after the fertilizer plant explosion. The Sheriff said yes there had been but they had taken care of that really quick. No report on the current health of the looters.

Maybe there's a 100 pound teenage Chechen on the loose in Oakland.

That's because its not football season. Otherwise he'd be kicking field goals for the Raiders.

I have been saying the last week the next sleeper cell to activate will come from Berkley, CA.

Either the DHS is after Moslems or Tea Party militia.

Myself I think Obama wants to ferret out Moslems before they are exposed and start blabbing away about their visits to the Whitehut.

“...please explain why it is necessary for the police to wear military battle dress uniforms?..”

That is so we can't tell military from other local/ fed troops

Get use to it (sarc)

Oh, that kind of sweep.

For a minute I thought that when I got home tonight all that junk that’s in the gutter in front of my house would be cleaned up.

No such luck.

CNB reports it was kids playing with fireworks and red paint and practicing first aid. The smoke was WHITE indicating we have a new pope. Obama says the new CIA director is a muslim who converted while serving in the middle East (he was not brainwashed because he is brainless) and he is a loyal American supporter of jihad. Eric wants all republicans to appear and answer questions under oath before his grandiose jury. Congress adjourned just a five years ago.

/sarcasm
