Eggzackly. All (and I mean all) of our pathologies are fundamentally moral pathologies. Libertarian conservatives need to open their eyes. Generation Y came of age when perjury by a president became acceptable, when an entire culture shifted from the assumption that a few jerks would see how much they could get away with but most people wanted to be honest (even if only because being dishonest and a constant liar was looked down upon by society).

Now it is simply assumed that everyone lies all the time about everything and caveat emptor. Indeed, the pendulum has swung even farther: the really skillful liars are celebrated for their really skillful lying. Sure BJCLintoon is a congenital liar, but he’s so skilled at it politically that we have to admire him—that’s what people were saying when the Generatio Xers came of age in the late 1990s.

That’s our problem: fundamental immorality, dishonesty, lack of integrity. No society can flourish under those circumstances

When Generation Y-ers came of age in the late 1990s, not Generation Xers.

That is the generally accepted military causality rate but all causalities including civilian is closer to 1.4 million. (As a percent of population in today’s numbers would be about 7 million).

Actually I don’t think realizing life is unfair and talking about is whining. When you see what happened to that poor little boy killed at the marathon. ..or those kids at Sandy Hook the absolute unfairness is incomprehensible. I guess we’re supposed to believe it’s all of some plan by God....but my faith is tested.

Dope and anuses! Hooray!

I do believe that's the first time that phrase has been posted on FR. ;-)

That same phrase characterizes the whole crowd over at DU.

I was one of these people born in early ‘82. It’s been a battle to get where I am. I’ve just accepted the fact I probably won’t have a retirement like my grandparents enjoyed.

Well, that's completely up to you, isn't it.

This stuff is such tripe. I still remember, back in the early seventies, all the wailing and gnashing of teeth that the Baby-Boomers wouldn't be able to provide for our own retirements because our parents owned all the shares of stock and there weren't any for us to buy.

The level of economic discourse hasn't improved since then.

Boo-hoo.

Generation Y is the most educated in American history....

((
Perhaps. But they certainly don’t know much about a lot of topics.

"What are those of us born in 1979 considered to be?"

Get off of my lawn!

I think the “Millennials” were so named because those born in 1982 ‘came of age,’ graduated from high school and (many) went on to college in 2000.

2000 was my graduating year from HS. No one back then predicted it would be like this now.

The postwar baby boom stopped in 1964 because of the introduction of The Pill.

My mom had seven kids between 1953 and 1963. I can still remember the first time I saw that little disk of pills in the house. It was right after my baby sister was born.
